| JohnnyONeal03-25-05, 10:59 AM | Ever since Across Eberron (http://www.gamingreport.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Diner_Wrapper&file=index&req=ShowFile&file_wrap=html/eberron/eberron.htm) and the concept art revealed in the Dragon magazine Eberron previews, I've been a fan of Steve Prescott's art. Along with Dana Knutson and Mark Tedin, he was one of the core concept artists for the setting. And along with Wayne Reynolds, I think he's producing some of the most consistently Eberron-specific art out there today. In addition to his sourcebook (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/eb_gallery/82093.jpg) work (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/eb_gallery/82118.jpg), he's the guy behind the black and white illustrations in Whispers of the Vampire's Blade (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/eb/20040917a) and Grasp of the Emerald Claw (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/eb/20050114a). Not everyone loves his stuff, but I think it's totally creative and 100% Eberron. I mean, wow (http://www.rottface.com/images/mg_dr_01.jpg). A little while back, I visited Steve's site, rottface.com (http://www.rottface.com), and saw that he was selling original art (http://www.rottface.com/13_RottShoppe_Index.php) for what I thought were very reasonable prices. He didn't have any Eberron pieces up, so I contacted him directly about some of my favorites. I wanted something I could put up in my apartment, something that would be fantastic but still a bit subtle. So I picked the Commoner's View of Sharn (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/sharn_gallery/84560.jpg) from Sharn: City of Towers. Steve also mentioned he had some concept art sample packs that he sometimes sells at conventions, so I added those to the order. I just got everything, and it's awesome! The piece of original artwork looks even better (richer, less washed out) in person. My wife liked it so much that she wants to display it prominently. The concept art is also totally sweet. Each set comes with 9 prints and an illustrated cover with commentary that lends new insight into the world of Eberron. It's printed on very thick sepia-toned paper and each print is signed. There are three sets currently for sale, and I got all three. Much of the art appeared (in tiny, cropped images) in the Dragon magazine previews. A couple of pieces are line drawings of images that ended up in the sourcebook. But about 10 of the prints contain entirely new artwork. My favorite is a male Argonnessen (Seren) barbarian, though I also love the creepy Aerenal elf and alien Inspired pieces. There's also a concept sketch of the Warforged Scout that (no offense) looks way cooler than the final colored MM3 version. Some of the pieces are definitely not "canon," like Kaius decked out in Emerald Claw gear or a Lord of Blades that looks scrappier but less majestic than the Matt Cavotta version (http://www.coveworld.net/eberron/lord_of_blades.jpg). But the images and commentary provide some background information that's more consistent with the final setting. A final interesting note about these pieces is that they display more non-European influences than a lot of the final sourcebook art. Anyway, I'm thrilled with my purchase! The original art looks amazing and the prints will make great visual aids for the next Eberron adventure I run. I'm tempted to scan all these images and post them for everyone to see, but many of them are already available at the Eberron Journal's gallery page (http://www.coveworld.net/eberron/gallery.html). To see the rest, contact Steve (mailto:steve2@rottface.com) and buy the sets! Or just stay tuned: he mentioned to me that he's updating his site over the next few weeks and will come back with prices posted for this stuff. |

| Liane the Wayfarer03-25-05, 02:28 PM | Looks like you got yours right on time, too, since his website says he's temporarily shelving sales of prints. |
| Edymnion03-25-05, 02:46 PM | Hey, thanks for the link to this guy. I've had a thread up in Races about his Drow piece, but couldn't upload it for non-Dragon subscribers to see. Since this is the artists site, I can link to it and let them get the picture for themselves. Thanks! |
