| Isran_Imrador03-13-06, 11:28 AM | Where is the text that sayes that the Baboons guided the Aerenal elves to the Manifested zones and the places to found their cities? I Looked everywere but cant seem to find it...? (Elven Shards, ECS, RoE, MoE) Am I blind or is it somewhere else??? Thanks Isran :) |
| DoveArrow03-13-06, 11:48 AM | If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say it's probably in the first chapter of Magic of Eberron. However, I'd have to check my books to be sure. |
| Bluebrush03-13-06, 12:26 PM | I'm fairly certain it was answered in the AKB thread a while back. I think Keith said they were planning to answer it in Races of Eberron, but it never materialised in print for some reason. So he gave us an answer on the thread. |
| Arz03-13-06, 01:32 PM | I believe the answer to this is quite simple... After the destruction of House Vol, the other elven house decided to move its base of operations to Khorvaire. During this time the sentinels raided and misappropriated many of the stores of House Phiarlan. At the time they insisted they were just trying to gather accurate tax adjustments. Most valuable amongst these tomes was heraldic information going back to the Age of Giants. Amongst the other loose ends they found codices on magical techniques developed by Phiarlan magi. Fortunately few secrets were pried from these tomes as the ciphers used were quite unique. Much to the amazement of Phiarlan spies, Aereni magi were able to develop a useful technique from an inaccurate translation of 'Magic of Buffoonery'. Though in the opinion of Phiarlan stage-magi a trained buffoon will always achieve better comedic timing than a baboon. |
| Urko03-13-06, 01:51 PM | Isran: The reference you're looking for is here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6517235&postcount=186) This was asked a looooong time ago, so I will go ahead and answer it now. When the elves first came to Aerenal they quickly domesticated baboons, which proved useful for a wide variety of tasks. Beyond that, legends say that seemingly intelligent baboons provided the elves with many strange forms of assistance; it's said that there were golden-furred baboons that led the elves to the manifest zones of Irian, though there is no proof of this. These legends suggest that baboons in some way channel the spirit of the island itself - so by honoring the baboon, the elves show respect for the land that has given them shelter. And as the land aids the elves to this day, so do their baboon companions and pets. |
| Isran_Imrador03-14-06, 01:51 PM | Yeah that is what i was looking for, but I was sure it was printed somewhere... Anyway thank you for the link... :D Isran |

"hey, look at that bleached monkey with the bright arse! it must be a sign from the ancestors! let's see where it leads us!" it's like a gross episode of Lassie. and "seemingly intelligent?" like what, Amy from Congo? hmmm... Aeren = Jane Goodall... |

Aeren = Jane Goodall... Hmmmmmm Simpsons.... I just keep thinking about the parties fighter or cleric getting attacked by a bunch of Baboons while the Wizard stands back and starts asking an Aerenal Naturalist what's happening. Wizard: "What are they going to do to him?" Aerenal Naturalist: "Well, thier going to kill the intruder. Though, first thier going to eat his skin." Pretty soon the rest of the party is argueing of how to deal with the baboons. "QUICK! ACT LIKE A LION!" "PLAY DEAD!" "FIND THE DOMINANT MALE! KNOCK THAT MONKEY DOWN!" Till finally the parties monk jumps down and gets in a brawl with the apes. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Actually, I was at one time favoring the idea of playing a Aerenal Pirate with a Baboon pet. Magebred, extremely vicious, just have the thing jumping out of now where at times to terrorize other PCs. I would call him Bozbo... Then there's always reinacting a scene from family guy in Sharn. Where the Japanese guy in Hiroshima is having the worst day of his life and then suddenly that baboon drops out of the sky and starts tearing into him? |
