| RagingDemon12-19-06, 08:27 PM | There has been some months since I' ve stopped playing DnD. Now I' m back and can enjoy the game once more. Since I like DMing more than being a player I' ll follow this road once more so I have created story for my party concisting of five members: a wizard, a sorcerer, a druid, a ranger and a rogue and I' d like to have some details cleared out in order to help the connection of the story better... The setting will be Eberron and the campaingn is created for lvl7 chars. So here we go... The year is 964YK (one year before the actual warforged are created). The (Last) war is reigning over the continent of Khorvaire. A powerful wizard, really old and sick, has found an item with a strange ability, a unique one. But unfortunately some things never stay a secret, so the word has been around about that item and the adversaries of the wizard want it as well. They hire a party of people to get that item for them. Here' s where the players come. So far so simple... Now to the actual story: _________________________________ | | What the players know |________________________________ The players will start in a low-light room, lied on a wooden bench each, their hands and feet cuffed... They will only hear a deep calm voice wishing them luck. After that everything will go dark and players will awake on an old and deserted house somewhere at a village. As they awake and begin to wonder around some places in the village seem familiar... _________________________________ | | The actual background and truth |________________________________ Long before the actual year, the wizard fell in love with a beautiful woman. Still young and apprentice at the time the good-hearted wizard would do anything for the sake of his love, so in return, when he asked her to marry him she agreed and had a baby with him. Little did the wizard know at the time though and shortly after his child was born, his wife revealed her long held secret. She was not a human, she was a silver dragon. Stunned by the news he couldn' t believe there was possible for a man to love a dragon so he abandonded her and tried to kill the child for it was half-dragon, an abomination to both the human and the dragon worlds. The mother took the child and hide it in a safe place. She left the wizard, although deeply inside her she still ached for him and loved him. The mother was also a scholar of the Draconic Prophecy and have revealed some information about its existence and meaning to the wizard although he never truly understood it at the time. Still caring for him and her son, she visited him one last time while she was severely wounded from a hard fight and about to die. She revealed to him that some parts of the Prophecy have been unfold or so did some dragons think. Those parts were mentioning a great disaster that' ll hit a specific part of Khorvaire at the year of 994YK, Cyre. The exact date was also mentioned but not the cause of the disaster. For a strange reason the name of their son was also mentioned as he would be one of the many to die in that disaster. No more information were known. After that, the dragon died and the wizard continued his life searching for his son and thinking about the dragon' s words and their meaning. We now reach the current era in which our wizard has grown powerful and has also aquired that item... But what does it do? It allows time travelling to a specific future date set by the user and up to 7 days in the past of this date. Up to five people can be send to the specified time, not their actual bodies, but something like a projection of them, so their real bodies stay behind. The players were the ones hired to steal this item. Breaking into the wizard' s tower was not easy at all. In fact they got cought by the mechanical guards of the tower and the wizard was generous enough to offer them a deal. Travel in time and change the things to be done in order to save his long lost son who he thought about every day and has really regret the fact that he attaced him when on his mother' s arms, a baby, trying to kill him. He now wanted him to learn of his father and at least forgive him. If players refused helpign him he would deal with them himself in a not so pleasant way. So the players accepted... The time travelling has some dangers though with the most important of all being that people doing this will most probably lose their past memories... (all these things in this section are things the players are UNAWARE of, at least when the story begins) _________________________________ | | The irony and some more fluff |________________________________ The year is 994 now, 7 days before the destruction of Cyre, time is counting against the players... The village the player' s start is the village they grew up together before splitting to have their lives and help their nations while in war, that' s why some things look familiar here! The players will fortunately find WHAT will cause the Day of Mourning and will try to stop it (through 7 sessions, each one lasting one day in game)... As the War continues a small but constantly growing group of cultists of the Devourer have found an artifact that they THINK it will allow them to perform a ritual to bring something like a messiah, a savior, the man to stop the war... They do not know though that this ancient artifact contains the essence of a god, Balinor. The ritual would be performed over a single person. While the ritual is about to be completed with the sacrifice of the person, the essence of the Devourer posseses the person to be sacrificed... Balinor, really irritated by that fact, attempts to co-possess the body and fight his brother off it. The cult leader raises his knife in order to complete the ritual with the sacrifice... The players enter the scene, shortly after the knife is piercing the victim' s heart and shortly after that, blinding white light covers everything and Cyre goes boom... _________________________________ | | The true identities... |________________________________ The person that is performing the ritual is a lich... our wizard!!! In the actual present, when the players return unable to stop the Day of Mourning, the wizard will shoo them away and continue with his life. Since he' s time is short and he has that great knowledges, he' ll use them to become an undead and try find his son but will not be successfull because (the half-dragon is for some reason "immune" to all spells that would allow him to be located or seen). After the years pass he (the wizard)' ll lead this mad cult and will manually try to stop the war by bringing the messiah he hopes. The person to be sacrificed is his son... ! ! ! He' ll not learn this untill the moment the players jump into the scene and the person is being killed. After it' s body is stripped from clothes body marks of his two cut dragon wings will be seen but it' s too late then... _________________________________ | | Some hopes... |________________________________ Since the' ll die in the future disaster the players will wake up back at the wizard' s place, only briefly remembering what happened and that they were unable to stop the disaster. If someone succeeds on a high DC WIS check (which I will roll secretly) he' ll remember that the lich was the wizard and he killed his own son (he' ll recognize him from a symbol or cloth or piece of equipment he' ll have in both the present and future) and ONLY then, the wizard will shoo them again but will go and get locked in his own room and commit suicide. The players may learn about this fact. So in the future who know if some other cause of the disaster appears... _________________________________ | | My questions |________________________________ Since this story is kinda complicated and indrigues me I want to ask some questions... I want to make the first 7 sessions full fast paced RP-action since the players will be on their toes every in game moment attempting to catch on the deadline before the disaster occurs. So: 1. How is it possible that the cultists have imprisoned and are to sacrifice the half-dragon? (the lich-wizard does NOT know of the victim' s origin and the name of his son was also mentioned in the Prophecy' s part, so he must be important) 2. Is the story having any holes or things that do not match? If so what are these? 3. What will happen to the players AFTER they return having failed to save Cyre? They will remember almost nothing other than the last events maybe and will have forgotten their past as well... That they worked for the wizard' s adversaries and that broke into his tower to steal... 4. What reason is the party having in the first place of acccepting its initial mission to steal the item? 5. Should the rivals of the wizard be some individuals or a faction in game like the lords of dust or the dreaming dark? --------------- That' s it, sorry for the huge post, I just wanted to share my story with you and possibly get some help in continuing and correcting it. Thanks in advance to everyone who replies. Regards |
