| Fion8108-12-06, 03:33 AM | Ive posted this by accident in whats a player to do, and the optomization board nobody reads. So here is the third post in what i hope will be a useful+correct forum space. My group doesnt so much write backstories as novels. So hopefully one of you will be willing to read this backstory and tell me what you think. We pick our feats/skills to fit story not for optomization, tell me what you think, i apologize for the grammer not proofread. He is from Aundair. Str: 17 Hp:12 Dex: 11 Feats: Weapon focus (great sword) Con:14 Endurance Int:11 Diehard Wis:10 Cha:12 Name: Aiden Aiden’s father was a knight who had served his entire life in the army. His mother was a gentle and kind lady in a low ranking court. His father’s marriage had been beneath his station, which had lowered his status amongst those in power. The consequence was that his fathers granted lands put him near the border of karrnath and thrane the place of the most intense action Aundair saw in the war. His father was rarely home during his youth and when he was he grilled Aiden non stop in the ways of war, many nights as a young boy Aiden would stumble home in the rain bloody and bruised from his fathers exercises. Yet there was love mixed with the tragedy, his father was kind and often made his way back for holidays. Many times in his youth Aiden was relocated as territorial switches made there old home accessible. His father would always reclaim the land though. Once when Aiden was just 12 he was outside the village under the pretense of gathering water but really to follow a girl he liked named Isabelle. Two goblins had been scouting the well for stragglers and rushed at them, even at twelve Aiden was as strong as a horse and when he saw one of them strike Isabelle in the distance he ran up and picked the goblin up throwing it down into the well. The other goblin cut at him and opened a fierce wound but he didn’t care he bulled into and gritted his teeth against he pain remembered the lessons his father had beaten into him. He took the knife out of its hands and cut its throat. Wounded and tired he picked up Isabelle to make his way back to the village. That night his victory was celebrated in the whole village and Aiden started becoming a hero to the common man. A strange knight visited that very evening hearing the end of the celebration, he heard the tale of Aidens heroics, but had news for him. Aiden pulled away from the celebrations to listen to the knight and he said to him this “destiny is a strange thing young sir and it seems that your father was waiting for you to become a man before he himself gave way. It is strange that today as you accomplish this he falls in battle”. Aidens entire family was shocked by the news of his father’s death, his younger brother was too young to make a living so Aiden took up a craft, smiting. Every evening he could he practiced his sword. At 16 he was so large and muscular that he passed for much older and joined the military under aged by lying. Isabelle had grown close to him and cried and pulled at his arm and begged him to stay. But Aiden had fire in his eyes and heart and wanted revenge, he promised Isabelle he would return safely, he promised they would someday marry and that he would always protect her. Aiden proved monstrously capable on the field and performed much better than the starting adult soldiers in his group. In one battle he scored as high as 7 kills a feat almost unheard of for those outside of the knights. So it was for years that he was in his father’s shoes, returning home occasionally to see his family and Isabelle between the bloody battles. One particular day while the army was in the lines they received word that a special tactical unit of war forged had gone behind them with the intent of destroying the town, his town. The commander about to enter battle could only spare a few troups and asked for a small battalion to go and fight this force. Aiden volunteered, the town was already under siege when he arrived back. The men he was with where all brave and proud, they ran in to stop the slaughter. He rushed through the streets more a wild man than a soldier to his house, he had gotten home too late the devastation was complete and his house was a ruin. The war forged wrecking the town were talented and met the soldiers well, many of his brethren were falling. He ran towards one with such savagery that his sword went through the creature’s arm and cracked open its head killing it. He made his way to Isabelle’s place fighting alongside his men. Isabelle’s house was occupied a war forged shooting arrows out the window, Aiden charged and burst through the door and butchered the war forged inside, the house was empty otherwise. He could see some of the villagers had fled into the wilderness and he saw Isabelle running with them. He kicked down the back door and ran into the field when he noticed a group of peculiar looking war forged making there way towards the survivors. The cries in the background told him that his own force was losing the battle. He had only one chance, get to her and get out of here, he took off as fast as lighting overcoming all the fatigue in his body. He was outrunning the machines, he would make it. A quarrel caught him in the leg and caused him to stumble for just a moment but it was enough. A large and gray war forged using a strange shaped Great sword impaled Isabelle in front of him. His cry caught several warforged’s attention as he stood up only a few paces away from this strange one. It let Isabelle’s body lifeless body drop with the sword in it and drew another blade. It turned to the other war forged to tell them to go on and kill the rest, before it could turn back towards Aiden he was already on the attack. His father had always said “if your opponent takes his eyes off you, take his head off him”. The blow caught the war forged by surprise and knocked it back but was not even close to being enough to destroy it. It proved a much more talented soldier than Aiden and took pleasure in drawing out the fight. Eventually it slashed at his hand cutting it open and as his arm dropped plunged its blade up his stomach till it burst out his back. His mouth filled with blood he sank to the ground. The war forged drew the sword out and walked away leaving him to die. Aiden took in the memory of it well, every inch of its appearance before passing out. He prayed in his last moments that if the Gods preserved him, he would have his vengeance. He awoke in the middle of a pile of bodies on a wagon being carried to a burial site. The wagon driver dropped it and ran in terror when he saw Aiden move, barely conscious Aiden passed out again. Only to awake a moment later to a dwarven cleric of the sovereign host who used magic to heal him. “I can’t believe you survived that lad, nobody else did’. He learnt that the war forged were an unknown raiding party with motivations for this small town not clearly established. He also learnt that scouts said there tracks were heading to Sharn. He walked out to the find the body of his beloved on the field, she had not been picked up yet and the sword still jutted out of her. The dwarf was following him. Aiden stood there for a second silently till the dwarf asked. “What is going on lad?”. “I have a pack with the Gods to honor” Aiden replied and he drew the blade out of his beloved, and studied it for a moment and noticed the emblem of Cyre upon it. “What are you planning to do with that then?” Asked the dwarf. “Return it” Aiden began to make his way for Sharn. (This was 2 and half years ago) Sorry for the spam just wanna make sure im putting this somewere ill get a response gotta have this guy ready for sunday. |

With your character having had bad experiences with goblins and Warforged, perhaps roleplaying out a racism to those said races would be fitting. Especially more so for the Warforged since the raiding party nearly caused Aiden's death. |
| Troy7008-12-06, 07:16 AM | Nice, I like the story. |
| Fion8108-12-06, 11:46 AM | aye i was thinking of developing out the same prejudice, i know that no one in my group likes warforged and they wont be playing them. +since this was years ago the wounds would have slightly healed so it wont be at the time of playing a pressing an immediate need to keep following this. If the dm picks up on or makes use of my backstory concretely great, if not my character will be just one more guy wounded in the war whos had to find a new sort of meaning in life. |
| warforged_assasin08-12-06, 02:16 PM | i can guess the warforged was the lord of blades probably |
| Fion8108-12-06, 09:32 PM | Nope, he wasnt or well i guess it would be up to the dm who he was my character doesnt know and the dm could do whatever i guess. Could have been an agent of the lord of blades though. |
