| allenchan09-27-04, 07:51 PM | If I wanted to give my PC's a base, like maybe a small fortress to take over and run, where would be the ideal place for it? Im looking for something that's not far from conflict and many plot ideas, but in relatively neutral territory. |
| Megatron09-27-04, 08:46 PM | just South of Byeshk Mountains, near the Brelish Border. Give them a keep and see if they can hold on to it ;p |
| Greyson09-27-04, 09:46 PM | The PCs I GM for use the Broken Anvil Inn. They were introduced to it in The Forgotten Forge. And there is a map of it in Shadows of the Last War. They don't have to pay, it is in Sharn, and they all know where it is. I devised a patron named Rolanna, who has taken a liking to our kalashtarian PC. So she accommodates them - serves their temporal needs; discloses gossip, rumors and other tid bits of information; vouches for them to authorities; points them in the right direction when they need it (healing, equipment, selling goods; etc). But, I just really like Sharn. It's the Jewel of Khorvaire, man. :) |
| Ch@pel09-27-04, 10:17 PM | What kind of PCs do you have? If they aren't decided yet, one cool idea is to make them all Valenar elves and give them one of those ruined forts in the Blade Desert. Or how about they take over one of the forts built by Karnnath in the Talenta Plains? And like someone already mentioned, the border between Droaam and Breland would be a a nice tough place to try to maintain a keep. |
| Doctor X09-28-04, 12:30 AM | One of my PC's is going to be involved with Morgrave University, so I'll probably give the party some space there... Either there or at the House Orien enclave, because they have some connections there, also. All I know is that I want it to be in Sharn. I'm planning on putting some cool stuff for them to interact with around it, just to make the city of Sharn more memorable. There might be a guy running an archery range on one of the connecting bridges... You just have to make sure you shoot longways, and not off the edge, or the gaurds might give you problems. Stuff like that... I'll think of some more before we start off. I'm hoping it will add a little more personality to their "base of operations" aside from simply the place they go to during down-time. |
| allenchan09-28-04, 04:48 AM | What kind of PCs do you have? Well, let's put it this way, not a single one of them is playing a race from the core books, and none of them are playing the same race. So its a very... interesting group, to say the least :mymy: |
| ThanisKartaleon09-28-04, 05:27 AM | Well, let's put it this way, not a single one of them is playing a race from the core books, and none of them are playing the same race. So its a very... interesting group, to say the least :mymy: so what races are they? If they're all savages, they might have a hideout in Droaam, Darguun, or the Eldeen Reaches. The could be volunteer experiments at the floating towers of Arcanix. Ya know, on their days off, the students practice their polymorph spells on them, etc. :D If they're willing to be a Brelish Elite military unit, the Argonth is a great launchpad: It moves at the speed of plot! Rekkenmark or Thaliost could be a good for a Karrnath/Thrane campaign... The City of Atur in Karrnath makes for an interesting setting to complement the interesting PCs... There's plenty of adventure to be found among the islands of the Lhazaar Principalities. Arr, matey. :D If the PCs are of odd enough races, maybe they could actually live in the Mournland. This would be a difficult campaign, as they could then only heal in the mournland... Setting them in Aerenal would allow for a variety of adventures, set between Khorvaire and Argonnessen it is. Of course, there's always good old Sharn. Look at the latest Dragonshard; there's a place for everyone in Sharn. Hope this helps! |
| Roxlimn09-28-04, 05:41 AM | You'll have to be a bit more specific about what you want. Eberron is a complicated place with complicated ideas and concepts. Politically speaking, who are your PCs allied with? Do they have patrons or not? Why would they like this location? What would any of the other organizations in Khovaire have to say about it? Locating a group in Aundair or Breland might be the best options as those give their agents the most freedom of action relatively, and they're accessible to a lot for places. However, since none of the spaces in Khorvaire are "relatively neutral", you'll have to give lower level PCs patrons of some sort to avoid having to explain why the Lords of Dust aren't taking an interest in their fortress. |
| Saurenda09-28-04, 01:25 PM | I gave my PCs three towers, and now a lighthouse they have to the south of sharn on the east side of the dagger river. They named them the "seawall" towers. The pearl colored lighthouse is yet to be named. To defend thier towers they had to fight the jungle boys, warforged from the LoB, jungleboys again, and finally a second attack from the LoB. All times the towers took a beating, and the PCs scrounge and work to keep the place livable. It is thier base and they have gotten quite comfortable with thier home, which is just a day and a half's travel from Sharn. It's a good location because it means I can still use thier mail box at the Towers to give them hooks for Sharn, the King's Forest, and any other location still in Breland. Also it gives them a place to work until Sharn is fully constructed in November heh heh. It was originally a plot hook, and I felt that if they wanted it they needed to pay back taxes and for the deed to the land. A hefty 5k for when they were a wee 2nd level to 3rd level PCs. Now they are big 4th and 5th level PCs. They just had the place hallowed(dimension anchor effected) for the year and plan on keeping mind control, summoning, and teleporting out of thier area. Very intelligent. |
| Solarious09-28-04, 01:54 PM | Bases of operations? An easy solution would be to look at Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn. They had specific 'strongholds' for each of the main classes, and they included a keep outside of city, a Planar Sphere (which broke down, so no more planes-hopping for you :P), a playhouse underneath a tavern, a branch of the local theives guild, and a druid's grove. Come to think of it, if you look through guides for BG2, such as one here (www.gamebanshee.com), you could have lots of hooks and developments for a base. Of course, you would have to make modifications for Eberron, but they're ideas to start with. |
