One of my player's is playing a Druid and has an affinty for Unicorns. Naturally she was pleased when there were a few feats in the Campaign Setting that let a druid take a Unicorn has a totem animal and you can call one for an animal companion eventually.

I was just wondering if anyone saw the special ability for taking the Unicorn has a totem animal kind of underpowered. All druids at 9th level become immune to poison. The Unicorn gives a +4 to poison. I was thinking of changing the ability to maybe give the druid a bonus to healing spells they cast, like a +1 per level of spell or something. I just think they should get something better.

Anyone have any opinions?

Yeah, the unicorn totem would be more useful for rangers, I'd say. Until the character takes Beast Shape, that is. Turning into a unicorn and gaining the ex and su abilities is pretty nice. So a ranger gets a bigger payoff from Totem, since they can't take Beast Shape.

yea but the druid when wildshaping doesnt gain any of the SU abilities. Wildshape says to refer to the Polymorph spell, which says you only gain ex special attacks. Doesn't pay much to turn into the Unicorn.

No, but read the Beast Shape feat. Once per day, the druid can wildshape into her totem creature, gaining the extraordinary and supernatural abilities of the form. That's the whole point of the feat.

You're right...but I still say the original feat of Unicorn as the totem animal feat is underpowered for a druid. A bonus to resist poison just doesnt do much when pretty soon you're immune to it. Anyone have a good idea to change it to something?
