| SahinTC10-17-04, 04:02 AM | What sorts of things have you all done in Eberron that you just find great? Currently I'm in a campaign where I play a seemingly human Kalashtar Psion (psionics alone is a leap from most other campaigns), who travels with his wife, a changeling rogue (played by... my wife!). In the city of Sharn we met up with a warforged monk (good friend) and his elven paladin companion (his girlfriend), and a seemingly human Elan psychic warrior (another good friend). Now, I can't think of any other setting where a humanesque psion and a shapechanger would be married, not to mention an elven paladin who travels with her construct friend and an insane lost-his-mind-afraid-of-pudding Elan. Ah, only in Eberron... So what kind of unusual parties have your players put together? |
| Angelion10-17-04, 05:55 AM | Hmm, because it can happend in Eberron... I must think of the artificer in our group then. He's fighting for the social rights of constructs. He loves constructs, warforged and golems, and think they all should have equal right in sociaty. And our party rogue, who's life agenda is to find his old master, whom he fanaticly belives to be a half-dragon. There's no evidence poiting to that he should be half-dragon, but he thinks so at least, even though half-dragons dosn't excist in Eberron more then the quantity: One |

| Lady Morn10-17-04, 09:53 AM | While it isn't exactly strange, it did happen by coincedence. Our party is my Tiefling Rogue from Sharn; a Shifter Ranger from the Eldeen Reaches; a Human Fighter from Karrnath; and an Elven Sorceress from Aerenal. So almost literally, our group hails from the four corners of Eberron... |
| RatFlail OF DOOM!!!!10-17-04, 12:28 PM | I love eberron. I have a githyanki monk of the mockey. My friend david is a changeling assassin. My friend steven is a *get ready for this one* drider child of winter druid. Our dm Daniel found a way to make a drider a balanced pc race. My other friend is a half giant pyschic warrior who uses his powers only to get claws and bites *as close to lycanthrope as u can get with about being a savage beast* Only in eberron. |
| Angelion10-17-04, 03:06 PM | Uh, in Q'barra, there are many Half-Dragon lizardfolk, thanks to that fiendish Black Dragon. Whether there is half-dragons or not is not known to mine players. If there is any, they are hunted by dragons. If any are seen public, they are killed. So hey, it's like being a good drow ^_^ |
| RatFlail OF DOOM!!!!10-18-04, 09:08 PM | and then you have the half-dragon underfround railroad, all the half dragons go there to be safe and will eventually smite the land but that wont be for a long long long long long long long long long long long long okay maybe not that long but a long time. |
| Save-vs-DM10-19-04, 02:48 AM | For one thing, Eberron actually made half-elves cool. This is the first time that I've been in a party with more than one half-elf (I'm playing a half-elf inquisitive of house Medani and my wife is playing a half-elf swashbuckly of house Lyrandar). Cheers, Save vs DM |
| Korhal IV10-19-04, 02:49 AM | For one thing, Eberron actually made half-elves cool. Yeah, good point there. Not much for half-elves in other settings to do. |
| Splendide10-19-04, 02:57 AM | Also, gnomes get to be more than Dwarves-lite. |
| Save-vs-DM10-19-04, 05:14 AM | That's true. Actually, I think Eberron does a great job of giving all the lesser played races a really cool spot to shine. Half-elves get a distinct culture (the Khoravar Dragonshard has been by far my favorite, when's part 2! *hint, hint*) Gnomes get Zilargo and TONS of politlcal intrigue. Half-Orcs have a strong tie to the gatekeeper sects and house Tharashk. Halflings finally have a culture that isn't "I'm a fat and happy farmer, I like pipe weed and pulling pranks on people." Dwarves finally get recognized for the greedy buggers they are portrayed as. (Hey, I love dwarves too, but it's nice to see that they are actually a finanical power and not some short guys living in a cave). The Gobliniods are finally a good and explainable PC race (I love bugbears, and now, finally, I have a good reason to play one and not have the entire world hunt me down). The two new cultures of elves finally, at long last, have painted them as something other than garden tending fancy boys. I mean, the new races are super cool, but I think the new cultures behind the old races are even better. Plus, I think it properly demphasized certain races *cough*drow*cough*. I mean, there is a ton of great and cool stuff about this book, but honestly one of the best parts is that now you have a compelling reason to play a non-human. They actually have a place in the world beyond "this is the dwarven mountain hold and this is the elven forest kingdom." Anyway, I ramble on and should sleep. Cheers, Save vs DM |
| Ph33r_the_Wheelchair10-19-04, 05:31 AM | I like how drow went from, "We're the biggest villians in the world! We're evil and megalomaniacal! We're gonna invade the surface!" to, "We live in Xen'Drik. Stop coming over and stealing our stuff. Basically just leave us the hell alone." I like how, if I wanted, I could play a good character whose goal in life is to become a vampire. I like how, when Forgotten Realms says, "You want psionics? Well, you're gonna have to completely change the setting and write them in yourself, because they DON'T ****ING EXIST!" Eberron says, "Psionics exist. In fact, there's a new, fully fleshed-out LA +0 PC psionic race. You're welcome." I like how they gave me a reason to be a gnome or half-elf, and a new culture for elves that's actually fresh and interesting. But most of all, I like how, in Eberron, you're not just deluding yourself if you think that your 5th-level character is an important person, and one of the go-to guys for important organizations. (Okay, actually most of all I like the ARTIFICER, but that's really not as important.) |
| dirty_rez10-19-04, 01:15 PM | psionics exist in forgotten realms! it's cannon! really! it's just... very.. very.. very rare and unheard of... hehe anyway, i just agree with everyone. although i personally love drow, and am saddened that thy have no content. but oh well. i do like that there is a whole nation of monsters.. it's generally a nifty setting. plus, what's cooler than a city of towers? |
| Beleriphon10-19-04, 01:34 PM | plus, what's cooler than a city of towers? A city made entirely of brie cheese. |
| ENHenry10-19-04, 02:53 PM | It happened in Eberron... One of my players almost blew a gasket because he learned that he couldn't buy a 15th level Greater Teleport Scroll, because there were NO spellcasters over 11th Level in any of the major cities in Khorvaire. It was like running into a brick wall - he couldn't wrap his mind around why I wouldn't let him purchase such a thing. He stunned me, however, when he considered contacting Mordain the Fleshweaver to see if such were available. The party stopped him before he decided to invest any energy in that plan... ...Even if he didn't know a lot about the Eberron setting, which is understandable, c'mon -- the guy's name is MORDAIN THE FLESH-WEAVER... :mymy: |
| Peaceforged10-19-04, 03:12 PM | I'm GMing a group of Three. Warforged Monk (I stole his name to use as my tag) Named peaceforged who is the most wonderfully introspective character I have ever seen. Wants to be a parent and raise children (difficult for the warforged to say the least) and prevent any atrocity like the last war from ever happening again. Shifter Barbarian, who has kind of an interesting background. A failed expedition to Angornessen(sp) left only one survivor, a witty shifter druid who was able to convince the tribal leaders that she would be a value to the tribe if they let her live. She became this character's grandmother, now this character is being sent back into the Demon lands as part of an expedition to find a cure for a disease that is causing the hatchlings and eggs of the Dragons to become sickly and weak. A changeling artificer, student of M.U. who lives by several different aliases and lives several different lives, as a human student of M.U. and a half-elf associate of House Cannith. Never traveled outside of Sharn, but now that she's ending her training at M.U. she is seeking to explore the world beyond. I only have 3 players at the moment, so I am limited in some ways. They have taken to starting to hire out Mercs for new jobs. Ultimately I am looking for another player. |

| helzapoppn10-19-04, 03:32 PM | So far my favorite PC in the game I run came about by an accidental misreading of the rules... The Player always plays Humans, and insisted on being a Cleric. Fine, he's a young priest of the Sovereign Host, specifically Boldrei. But...he also wants a Dragonmark, so he takes the Least Dragonmark feat at first level. This is where the misreading came in. He wanted to maximize his healing abilities, so I let him take the Mark of Healing. :mymy: By the time I realized that by the RAW it was impossible for a Human to have a Halfling mark, we were already underway. So I made lemonade...and worked it into his backstory. Young Dashiell Kapplan manifested the Mark of Healing two years ago, and became a minor celebrity in Sharn as word spread. Was it an authentic Mark or a forgery? Was it really an Aberrant Mark that duplicated the Mark of Healing? Did Dashiell (a Brelish war orphan raised under the care of the Sovereign Host) have a Halfling ancestor? Or...is he just the first of a possible wave of people manifesting 'Marks not associated with their Race? Will this mild-mannered young priest have an impact on the Draconic Prophecy itself? For two years House Jorasco and the Sovereign Host hierarchy in Sharn kept Dashiell under wraps for his own protection, until they could decide what to do with him. The Host kept him away from the normal functions of a priest of Boldrei (performing weddings, blessing households and businesses, etc.), and Jorasco put him to work at their smallest, least accessible clinic in Sharn... But all that is now changing as he met the other PCs and got whisked off to a life of adventure... |

My players would've gone for it in a second. Then again, one sought out the Blood of Vol just to become a lich, another stole a prototype airship, and a third accidentally released a daelkyr, so my players do a lot of stupid things. |
| SCMrks10-21-04, 01:59 PM | Our cleric is becoming the next god. He follows his own beliefs and ideals rather than a god who may or may not exist. He created a wand of cure disease and create food and water. Then he went to a temple of the soveriegn host that was run by experts. He went to the sick in the parish and cured them and went to the hungry and gave them food. then started preaching to follow his way instead of impodent soveriegns. He has gained quite a few followers. And since the Lord of the Blades has followers who believe in him so much that they gain spells, our cleric is trying to get some of his followers to be clerics for his cause. |
