I was curious if anyone had any idea how Demon-Infested Eberron might be and what sort of role a Demon Hunter might have in Eberron. Exorcists are common enough but what about independents? How much damage do they tend to cause before destruction?

Eberron is a place where many forces are constantly at work in subtle ways, behind the screens they plot and sceme and set things in motion that might not unfold for years to come. I don't think you should see it as an episode of ghostbusters where a bunch of demon hunters have an office in sharn and constantly rid the streets of rampaging fiends.
It can happen that a fiend is responsible for disrupting the piece but most of the time people do that just fine on their own. Being a demon hunter in Eberron might be a guy who made it his life task to hunt down one particular Lord of Dust who wronged him or his family some how or caused some trauma. It would take him a lifetime or more (in case of a long line of hunters) to track down the fiend and then the matter of actually confronting him still remains...

This is a really good question and interesting topic because Eberron has a lot of potential for DM development given the posession rules and such.

In my new Eberron Campaign I'm taking more of a horror bent (last one was more Indiana Jones-ish) so I've been mulling over ideas on outsiders, spirits, dark fey and the like.

(As an aside Keith just published an independent work on Fey over at RPG now and I'd be interested in hearing what folks think about it)

Demons, spirits, fey and all that really seem to have more of a mystical feel to them in Eberron and I think they have the potential to cause quiet a bit of damage. The real question someone has to answer is "what do these outsiders want?", what are their goals when in Eberron? Do they just run around burning things, are they destorying for destructions sake or are they more sinister. I haven't really answered that myself yet as I'm mostly concentrating on lesser spirits and demons, but the answer is definitly going to color what Demon Hunters have to deal with and how they operate.

Demons running around burning stuff are pretty strait forward, you hunt then down and kill them. Demons possessing folks, feeding on the moral decay they can cause could be much harder.

I have something in the pipe over the next few sessions of my campaign so I don't want to go into it, but I'll try to post somethign once the jigg is up.

It will be interesting to hear folks take on this.

Demon hunters would be more or less appearing among the orc tribes isolating the demon wastes (duh).

CotSF would certainly have a few on retainer, working with exorcists.

There's probably an group or two affiliated with the Sovereigns.

How common? Well, do you men Prc-Wise or occupation-wise?
