| Kilsek of Sheverash08-17-04, 02:08 PM | Well, I'm one of those long-time Realms DMs considering trying Eberron out. My players and I are definitely feeling some of the "been there, done that" and Eberron looks different enough without being too different to give a shot at. So... we started using background music a few years ago, and it's been a great addition that every player liked more than I thought they might. I have Conan, Gladiator, LoTR, the D&D Midnight Syndicate soundtack, etc. What soundtracks or CDs make good Eberron setting background music? It sounds like there's no question Indiana Jones soundtracks are at the top of the list. I was wondering what else you use or recommend? Thanks! |

| Kesh08-17-04, 08:00 PM | For creepy stuff, pick up a couple horror movie scores. I personally recommend Hellraiser and Hellbound: Hellraiser 2. The minute you play "The Lament Configuration," I can guarantee someone in your group will be freaking out. ;) |

| araelethe08-17-04, 08:56 PM | My pleasure! In addition to the composers I'd mentioned, I like to use ambient music for atmosphere (even the channels on Mac's Itunes program - though some are inappropriate). - Araelethe |
| DMAC08-17-04, 10:54 PM | A handful of soundtracks off the top of my head: Myst III: Exile Good mix of fantasy and "industrial" music without sounding too modern or slipping into techno. Sinbad Legend of the Seven Seas A solid adventure score without themes the players are likely to recognize immediately. The Rocketeer Pulpy, rousing adventure music. Minority Report Noir-ish John Williams and less recognizable than the Indy scores. Hellboy Good blend of action, pulp, and classical music. |
| Laiqualasse08-18-04, 03:56 AM | Pirates of the Caribbean and Gladiator soundtracks are both good for that swashbuckling kind of feel. You also might want to check out Symphony X (especially the New Mythology Suite) for some classical/rock music that's fantastic for big boss battles. |
| LelolithR08-20-04, 05:54 PM | Nightwish (http://www.nightwish.com) I haven't made any thorough search but if I had to stop now I would be certain I have found want I wanted. |
| Phist08-20-04, 06:30 PM | Eberron give you a chance to move away from the regular music. Something more modern is usually fitting. I'd use the Matrix themes, reloaded in particular. But that's just because that's the way my group is. |
| Joni-san08-20-04, 08:21 PM | As usual I have to recomend the Full Metal Alchemist O.S.T. It's just filled with musical goodness suitable for Eberron. You could also check some other Anime O.S.T's. They Might Be Giants also has a few tunes that are suitable. O Tannenbaum is a good example, it has this sad feeling to it. |
| Anfillius08-21-04, 02:02 PM | The classics (Indiana Jones, SW, LotR) are and will always be great for wilderness adventures, big battles, and boss confrontations. But I also love the idea of more "modern" sounds, especially in Sharn, which is more like present day NYC than your typical 14th century London. "The Matrix" is a good idea, and I would like to suggest "The Fifth Element" for Sharn or adventures on the lightening rail and other "modern" locales. There is also some very good music in "A Clockwork Orange" that combines classical and futuristic music very well. "Cantus" by Faith and the Muse is a good bet for most any situation as well. |

| araelethe08-23-04, 10:26 AM | I’ve also been listening to Leonard Bernstein - The Final Concert, featuring 4 Sea Interludes by Benjamin Britten and Symphony no. 7 in A major by Ludwig Van Beethoven, while running my Forgotten Forge play by post adventure. Very dramatic with wonderful bits of nuance and texture. Recommended for Eberron adventures for all scenarios. - Araelethe |

Is it synthesized, orchestral, rock (The Traveler Forbid!), or an amalgamation of genre? Was it composed by troupe of players or one composer/ arranger? Or is this top secret information? Just Curious! - Araelethe |
| Amaril08-24-04, 11:59 AM | I use background music in my games, too. My personal recommendations for the Eberron feel are Giants: Citizen Kabuto, The Mummy (Jerry Goldsmith), and The Mummy Returns (Alan Silvestri). I also recommend for general D&D The Official Rune Soundtrack, Decent to Undermountain video game soundtrack and The 13th Warrior (Jerry Goldsmith) movie sound track. |

| Honeycakes09-01-04, 12:23 AM | Did anyone listen to this Eberron sample CD yet? We finally listened to it! It is orchestral, sort of John Williams-like. Very cool, movie soundtrack type background music. The composer has a website, www.d2world.com. His name is David Davidson. Hopefully WotC will over the music to download at their site sometime soon. . . --H.C. |
| ZiD09-01-04, 08:51 PM | Heavy metal fits for anything that deals with death and destruction... mainly large battles, with lots of minis, and lots of dice!!!! YEAH!!! *excited* |
| Edymnion09-01-04, 09:08 PM | Anything by John Williams will be ideal. |
| The_Declaration09-01-04, 09:16 PM | my pick: Minority Report X-men 2 Hellboy Pirates of the Caribbean |
| Dex The King09-01-04, 11:41 PM | I don't know what is best, but here's what I use: Kill Bill Vol. 1 Any of the Matrix films I'm going to use the soundtrack from Hero (great movie!) as soon as I get it. |
