We have in the group, as follows: Human wizard, from Aundair Dwarven Fighter, soon to be dragonmarked heir of House Kundarak Warforged Rogue, hired to advise the fighter in security measures and to assist in protecting cargo (first mission only) Gnomish Artisan, in Sharn searching out suitable employment Human Bard, who is planning to multiclass over into Ranger (He's mulling over a character history right now. The first few sessions of my campaign uncover what appears to be a plot against House Cannith by forces that have set Prince Mika's Cloudreavers against not only the PC's, but the House of Making itself. Warforged fight alongside the Cloudreavers, and they seem to be bolstering their numbers greatly, and upon close inspection, they have similiar engravings as the Warforged Rogue in the party who was created only a few years ago in the secret creation forge controlled by Cannith, and set loose. (They appear to have all been created at similiar times as well, close to no originality between one and the next). A sudden beaching of a ship the PC's are on, uncovers a bit of a treasure cove controlled by the Cloudreavers at one point, and they find Winree d'Cannith... a prominent member of the house <LN female human Exp2/Art4> with a least dragonmark. They'll rescue her <hopefully>, and that's their introduction the the scandal I want... Now, while I have the beginnings of an intriguing romp through the political machinations of Sharn, and more specifically the Dragonmarked, I can't really come up with too much about why and who would want to tear down the House Cannith. |

A few options off the top of my head... What could be gained by destroying a Dragonmarked house? There's the loss of a major political power bloc (who stands to gain?). Mystically, the destruction of Cannith may have various important results, according to the Prophecy. Maybe it is a sign of the End Times (if the Mark of Making is destroyed, perhaps that means that rebuilding fundamentally cannot occur after the destruction). By tearing down House Cannith, do you mean something more like "I want to tear it down so I can build it back up, but this time in my image" or "I want the absolute eradication of the Cannith Dragonmarked bloodline"? They have VERY different implications. For instance, I can imagine a Cannith civil war (between Merrix and whoever the two other big faction-heads are) erupting over who controls Cannith as a whole in postwar Khorvaire. Imagine a fourth faction within Cannith, perhaps by a younger but equally ambitious heir, willing to destroy everything in order to rebuild it? Cleansing by fire, if you will... And that's even without bringing up the whole Warforged subtext - I can imagine some extremists believing the Cannith dabbled in powers that should be left alone in the creation of the Warforged. Perhaps some faction feels that the Cannith "creation" of intelligence is utmost blasphemy... I'll think a bit more on the subject and I'll post any other ideas that come up. |
