My characters will break in the Flamekeep principal church, to get to the chamber of the Flame. I want to make this as less combat oriented as posible, so i was wondering if you could give me ideas on what to add, like prismatic walls, guards and wards, and stuff like that.

I was thinking bout guards and wards at night (I seriously doubt that anyone could break in at day when there is a templar per square foot and a cleric per inch), some spell that prevents extradimensional passing, magic mouths to scare the hell out of the intruders, Mordekains private sanctum inside the chamber, traps of a special banishment that send the intruders out of the church...

Ideas? Anyone?

At the same time, the Flame isn't a big secret. Pilgrims can visit it and stuff. You have to show devotion, most likely, but all sorts of people are allowed to wander in and look at the Flame and pray for the Voice to guide them.

Ummm... just guards I would think. After all what could the PCs possibly do to the flame? What could anyone do to the flame?

I suggest playing on your players paranoia and not have anything but a few guards. Make it suspiciously easy but have Jaela waiting for them in the chamber to answer their questions.

Or better yet High Cardinal Krozan with a group of his elite guards and a reservation in his own private torture chamber, just for questioning you know (aint divinations a wonderful thing).

But really. Why are they breaking in when pilgrims can see the flame anyway?

In my campaign people can visit the flame or the church, but only the Council of Cardinals and the Keeper is allowed to enter the Chamber of the Flame-where the flame actually is-, anybody else is considered banned from the church, and anyone touching the flame (some people are wacky) is hanged.

They need to enter the chamber to purify the heart of a Pit Demon, and with this heart (and other materials) build an eldritch machine and do many other things.

They cant enter at day, for many people, including thrane knights, are there to stop any ilegal behaviour in such a holy place for them.

They are going to enter at night (if they actually have a sense of security)so i need many night-active only spells.

They need to enter the chamber
they are gonna get killed by a little girl :D
Keyword in here: don't
don't do it.
The chamber should be the msot secure room in khorvaine. In it rest A FREAKING GOD (or something like that) so believe me, nobody should be able to enter un-lawfully... also, the party goal is very self interesed, so the church won't help (you can't come and play with my god!)
Remember, this is both the reall seat of power of A NATION and the resting place of a god, and the fundation of his church.

Actually the Church might be interested. You see the eldritch machine will be(hopefully) able to greatly damage undead. And they are going to attack fort bones... In karrnath... which Thrane obviously hates(karrnath)... maybe with some diplomacy.. plus they are epic characters. They can try to enter for Gods (:D) sake Lol

Oh, sure. I can see how they will be interested into corrupt the flame with a demon's heart.(that is how I'could see it if I was a priest of the flame).
Ithink the best solution is to contact jalea or the cardinal council, explain the situation and ask permission to use the flame, they don't even need to see the flame personally, just give the heart to Jalea or who for her and let them do the purifying.

and if they choose to break in all the same, remember that in the chamber of the Flame the only working magic is that of the flame itself, other priests and other casters are at the best hindered, if not totally neutralized. And don't even think to cast a necromancy spell in there, it would never work and the backlash could kill you.
(No, it is not in the books, but it is the way I would do it)

I seem to recall there being one or two PrC's desgined specifically to guard holy sites and shrines in Complete Divine. If you have the book, whip up one or two suitably-high levelled special temple guards :D
There's also a bunch of spells for these kinds of situations. I don't remember what it's called, but in the PHB there's a fun 6th level arcane spell (I think called Locks and Traps, or something. Locks and barriers? Something and something, in any case!) that puts a whole bunch of anti-intruder effects over a wide area of a building.

That is Guards And Wards, and unfortunately i dont have the complete divine book...

Im looking for other spells. Or spells made for this kind of situations, maybe from other books...

Why are you attacking Fort Bones. You will end up with an entire country trying to kill you.

I seriously doubt the whole country would try to kill them. Maybe 30% or something like that :D

The thing is, the characters will attack fort bones to destroy only the "bones" part. Not the living. They will do so with the intention of revealing Kaius I secret, if he does not, they will overrun the fort zombie or flesh or wut/ever

I meant that Kaius might send his army after them. And even epic characters can't stop an army that you fight alive, then as undead, then again as undead (if Kaius has acces to the spell from Libris Mortis). And just because Thrane doesn't like Karrnath, I doubt they would help the PC's in an attack, and their armies might even try to stop the PCs, as well as all the other nations. If not, then at least the halfling would, since they have an alliance to Karrnath. So after living halfling, you fight undeaad ones. So even epic characters would fall from exaustion.

Well i respect your opinions, but i like my take on it. Im not asking for discussion about what my plan is, im asking for help bout the spells that protect a holy place.
