Ok. So I've been thinking of building a ship for quite some time now and I was looking for a little help. I've read the books I have but none of them are really helping me with the details of the boat. What books would you suggest I read to help better understand ships in the D&D world?

Stormwrack would be a good start, most likely.
You might look at the old Stronghold Builder's Handbook too, and see if that has any 'stronghold components' you can adapt for ease of pricing.

I have re-read Stormwrack and it looks like the best ship model it had to fit my needs would be an Elf Wingship. This is fine because I already wanted an Elven ship.

Wgat I'm trying to make is an adventuring ship that is both sea and air worthy. I want the fastest ship I can get and I'm not too big on lots of weapons. A few weapons are fine but I'd rather outrun the enemy or board and fight.

I was also wondering about non-dimensional spaces inside of a boat. Like if I wanted the captain's cabin/crew's cabin to be larger than the ship could hold, how would I go about doing that?

Portable Holes?

I really do think that would be the best option for those purposes. Also doubles as a small set of smugglers' holds. Put things in them and if boarded by the authorities; fold them up and put the whole hole in your pocket!

I was thinking portable holes but I wasn't sure if there was something better.

Ok so here's the hook: There is an adventurous captain who has an incredible airship. The captain and crew are not the typical "salty sea dogs". The captain is well educated and quite elegants and his crew tends to take after him. The crew is made of about 25-30 men under the captain's control plus the PCs. The ship is an engineering marvel way ahead of it's time. The ship has an observation deck at the front of the hull, which is mostly surrounded by a huge glass window with a small balcony lining the outside, that also serves as a nice kitchen/dining hall and a lounge for the crew. There is a cargo/treasure hold in the bottom of the ship. The crew's quarters are spacious and comfortable while the captain enjoys a very palacial suite that can double as a "war room". The ship stays with the standard pirate ship decor but is very emaculate (Read: No rats, filth, garbage). The ship even has indoor plumbing with communal showers and restrooms off the crew's quarters and a private are in the captain's suite. The captain is very particular about filth and requires everyone to be clean (He detests foul odors). There are a few artifacts fixed into the ship one being a magical item that allows the ship to jump to other planes and another acting as an alarm system.

The whole point is for a civilized crew to adventure all over the planes. I know some things are a bit of a stretch but I like the over all aspect. What I'm having trouble finding are ship designs , images, pricing info, etc.. Is there any more books beside Stormwrack I should be looking at?
