I was wondering how to build a custom airship. In the explorers handbook there is a good step by step way to build it (invovling the construction and trapping of the elemental) but there is no mention of cost. They have an example ship but I am looking for something a bit more sturdy. I am fine with taking an actual boat from say stormwrack and making it "airworthy" but I couldnt find any costs for the dragonshard, the matrix for the elemental or the "soarwood" material the ships are made out of. Any help would be great, cheers.

If you're looking for "sturdy", the "default" ship in the Explorer's Handbook is the way to go. It's double the size of even the Warships in Stormwrack at 300'x90' (think flying football field)... it requires the destruction of 250 hull sections with hardness 5 and 60 hp each to crash, and it takes half/reduced damage from most spells or anything short of a siege weapon.

Frankly, there's a reason airship "combat" always leads to boarding action: it's easier and more effective to take out the crew and capture the 92,000 gp airship for your own use than to slowly, slowly attempt to wreck it and hope that there's no one who can cast mending or one of the repair spells on it.

As for custom building, the cost for an appropriate Khyber shard is given in MoE, in the section about dragonshards and elemental binding. The cost for soarwood is probably in ECS or MoE somewhere... probably in the "equipment" section under special materials.

I see nothing wrong with taking a ship from Stormwrack and sticking an elemental in it (except for maybe an ironclad for buoyancy reasons) but the default airship is about as "sturdy" as you can get.

You could also try some of the ships from Arms + Equipment guide if you felt like converting them.
