| Charles Phipps08-14-05, 01:31 AM | Anyone got any stories of players who did not JUST *GET* Eberron? My titles examples say some of the difficulties I've had with players who had that trouble. |
| Fordel08-14-05, 01:40 AM | No one should ever be allowed to play a Kender. Not even in a Dragonlance game. Ever. *shudders* |
| Charles Phipps08-14-05, 01:41 AM | I weirdly use them as shorthand in my Dragonlance campaigns as to why no plans for the Apocalypse ever occurred. In one game, one wizard almost completed a spell to destroy the gods but a kender somehow had snuck in and interrupted it. |
| Fordel08-14-05, 01:44 AM | Kender *are* the apocalypse. |
| Manyfist08-14-05, 01:45 AM | Bunny girl shifters.... |
| Manyfist08-14-05, 01:46 AM | Kender *are* the apocalypse. Kender and the Gully Dwarf... get the races together... death to everything! |
| Charles Phipps08-14-05, 02:00 AM | Yes, the Lagomorpthropes' descendents as the player justified it. We've also had Catgirl shifter requests, Foxgirl, and at one point I believe Adorable 15+ charisma bear girl shifters. (I swear I'm surprised they didn't ask for the Dragonmark of Caring on their tummy) |
| He Who Lurks08-14-05, 02:33 AM | I swear I'm surprised they didn't ask for the Dragonmark of Caring on their tummy. Now that, my friend, is hilarious. |
| Manyfist08-14-05, 03:23 AM | Yes, the Lagomorpthropes' descendents as the player justified it. We've also had Catgirl shifter requests, Foxgirl, and at one point I believe Adorable 15+ charisma bear girl shifters. (I swear I'm surprised they didn't ask for the Dragonmark of Caring on their tummy) How Charismatic Bear Shifter with Dragonmark of Caring on the Stomach took over D&D! Shifter: "Feel the Care!" :D Lord of Blades: "Bite my shiney metal Arse!" Shifter: "Some one needs a Hug!" Lord of Blades: "Ok!" Hugs the Shifter yet his spikes slice through the Shifter like butter. "I told you Bite my Shiney metal Arse!" |
| Charles Phipps08-14-05, 03:31 AM | See the whacky adventures of Erandis Vol and her stupidly incompetent minion Lurky as they sit in their dark and unhappy tower while plotting to stop those shifters and their dragonmark of LOVVVVVEEEEE! ... I think I'm traumatized. |
| HappyDragon08-14-05, 04:22 AM | (I swear I'm surprised they didn't ask for the Dragonmark of Caring on their tummy) See the whacky adventures of Erandis Vol and her stupidly incompetent minion Lurky as they sit in their dark and unhappy tower while plotting to stop those shifters and their dragonmark of LOVVVVVEEEEE! ... I think I'm traumatized. That is absolutely priceless. :D I don't think I've laughed outloud so much from something I read on the boards before. |
| Missekat08-14-05, 04:46 AM | Actually, im considering to let my n00bish BF play a kender in my campaign. His real world personality is so close to the kender mindset, that he would excel at playing them the way THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYED. Thats is: NOT as an excuse to steal everything in sight, but to be playful, nosy, happy, positive, absentminded and just a tad stupid. And just as an afterthought: No, my BF is not a cleptomaniac. :P |
| Dalmuti08-14-05, 04:55 AM | Okay you know what, cute shifters, I'm sure it happens. I bet shifters have really sexy eyes. I don't see the problem with somebody deciding to play a hot shifter, I bet you in really strange and weird circumstances there are hot half-orcs... well "hot" like Chyna maybe. Anyhoo I wouldn't get upset about that. Get upset about Kender and Bunny Shifters. That is like there being a werebunny in D&D, a were-freakin-bunny! Werefox, maybe, werebunnies, NO! Were animals are supposed to be predators! |
| Aloïsius08-14-05, 06:05 AM | Werefox, maybe, werebunnies, NO! Were animals are supposed to be predators! Ask a carrot is rabbits aren't dangerous predators! :P |
| Kid SixXx08-14-05, 06:24 AM | Bunny Girl shifters Show the pictures of the female shifters from RoE to this player. Just because Shifters are feral doesn't mean that they are terribly unattractive. Also stress that Shifter culture doesn't do "cute": they are a feral, warrior race. R.o.b.b.i.e Warforged I shudder when people associate WF with robots, but if there are characteristics about Robbie's personality that they want to transport to the WF as RP references, then I don't see how this is a problem. Can I play a Kender? Player: Can I play a Kender? DM: We're not playing on Krynn, right? Player: No. DM: There you have it.. Sounds like you need to use RoE to properly give some depth to the discussion. |
| Save-vs-DM08-14-05, 07:04 AM | Hmm, amusing things I've heard from friends that just didn't "get" Eberron. (Thankfully, my main group totally gets it after I explained it and I can't relate any funny moments from them in this vein. Win some, loose some). On Warforged: Okay, I have this great idea for a character. He was a human but so badly hurt fighting in the war that they had to put his brain in a warforged. Now he's a cop and has this cool leg mounted crossbow! On Shifters: Hey, can my shifter look like Inuyasha? They're both like dog people, right? On Artificers: Oh, just like those Tinker Gnomes, right? On Orcs: Why didn't everyone just band together and kill all the orcs during the war. No one likes Orcs! On Dragonmarks: If I'm a half-elf I can take a human, elven and half-elven dragonmark, right? These are just some of the rather amusing (and sad) comments I've gotten on various IRC rooms and such. Thankfully most were elightened on how things really work. Cheers, Save vs DM |
| Bluebrush08-14-05, 07:37 AM | Wouldn't a bunnygirl shifter just be one with longstride? And maybe with a bite attack or a new "springleg" trait? Hmm... I'm going to have to get back to reading Watership Down in case I ever want to play this concept. |
| WitheringSolid08-14-05, 09:01 AM | I ran a simple homebrew a few years ago that had a very simple answer to folks wanting to play Kender...You can't, they are extinct. The last one was drawn an quartered in front of a cheering crowd several hundred years ago, the aniversery of wich is still considered a holiday. :D |
| darkness ninja of light08-14-05, 09:13 AM | Ooh! Play as a bunny-shifter named Alice! Add in some other shifters and you've got a game of Bloody Roar! |
| Save-vs-DM08-14-05, 09:18 AM | The only good kender is a dead kender. The best kender is drawn, quartered, covered in steaming hot tar and being bludgeoned to death slowly by a screaming mob of joyous peasants. SvD |
| KP9108-14-05, 10:17 AM | Ask a carrot is rabbits aren't dangerous predators! :P Oh no, that wererat is going to eat cheese! ;) Explain how a rat is a predator (I realize they bite, but to my knowledge they don't hunt for meat.) On Dragonmarks: If I'm a half-elf I can take a human, elven and half-elven dragonmark, right? Look under half-elf dragonmarks, a half-elf can be a member of House Lyrandar or any elf or human dragonmark. Unless they wanted several dragonmarks. |
| Kid SixXx08-14-05, 10:25 AM | Look under half-elf dragonmarks, a half-elf can be a member of house Lyrandar or any elf or human dragonmark. What Save-Vs-DM is saying is that players think that Half-Elves can manifest dragonmarks reserved for humans (ex. Mark of Making) or elves (ex. Mark of Shadows) as well as their own (Mark of the Storm). They probably got in the wrong direction thanks to the novel, The Crimson Talisman, where the half-elf protagonist ends up with the Mark of Passage, which is a no-no. |
| Charles Phipps08-14-05, 11:31 AM | I had a friend (most of the above suggestions come) who thought Inuyasha's "tragic and angsty" past could be replicated with a dog shifter and a true lycanthrope brother. He said it'd 'bring depth to the shifters.' And we also have the "Gnomes talk fast and invent things" assumption |
| Medesha08-14-05, 12:07 PM | Hee, actually bunny-girls and R.o.b.b.i.e's sound kinda fun. I might have to incorporate them in an upcoming adventure. |
| hiryuu08-14-05, 12:11 PM | Oh no, that wererat is going to eat cheese! ;) Explain how a rat is a predator (I realize they bite, but to my knowledge they don't hunt for meat.) Rats eat anything they come across: they'll chow down on insects, lizards, discarded meat, and, given half the chance, even human flesh (usually dead, of course; I've never heard of rats killing anyone). That's why rats are so widespread, they're typically as vicious and adaptable as cockroaches and humans. |
| Foxboy200008-14-05, 12:15 PM | Bunny-girl shifter = Rabbit Hengeyokai I could just see a hengeyokai meeting blank stares with: "What? Shifters aren't the only descendants of lycanthropes out there, you know." |
| KP9108-14-05, 12:38 PM | cockroaches and humans So why arn't there werehumans? I could understand that cockroches are insects, but humans are animals (maybe not in dnd but really they are). |
| Edymnion08-14-05, 12:44 PM | Actually, I think it was Hiryuu that had a bunny girl shifter artificer that I really liked. I helped him work on it a bit, I think she ended up with a wonderous item in the headband slot that gave bonuses to listen checks, shaped like big floppy bunny ears. Her main weapon was a greatclub shaped like a carrot, but she had a pair of adamantine punching daggers with broad white blades for "teeth" to chew through things, like pesky stone doors, and boots of striding and springing that happened to be high heels. She was fun! |
| KP9108-14-05, 12:45 PM | half-elf protagonist ends up with the Mark of Passage, which is a no-no. Half-elves can have the mark of passage. From the ECS, under half-elves dragonmarks on page 16 Since the union of humans and elves sometimes produces half-elves that are not part of the true breeding race, a small number of half-elves can be found among the human- and elf- controlled dragonmarked houses Although not a human or elf, a half-elf can manifest the Mark of Passage or the Mark of Shadows or any other elf/human mark. |
| Kinger08-14-05, 12:52 PM | So why arn't there werehumans? I could understand that cockroches are insects, but humans are animals (maybe not in dnd but really they are). What would a werehuman do come a full moon? "I go out and... uh... walk on my hind legs! I manipulate things with my opposable thumbs! I buy internet stock! I write a letter! I go out and have sex with no intention of producing offspring! I... uh... I light stuff on fire! I go to church! I got to church AND light stuff on fire!" See? Kinda lame. :) Plus, rather than growing hair, it falls out. Think of the mess. Back on topic, I've had one player grow frustrated with how un-human Warforged are. "I get drunk! Wait, no. I do drugs! Wait, no. I rent a *****! Wait, no. Goddammit! What the hell am I supposed to do for 8 hours while the rest of these guys are asleep??" |
| Edymnion08-14-05, 01:06 PM | Although not a human or elf, a half-elf can manifest the Mark of Passage or the Mark of Shadows or any other elf/human mark.Um, no they can't. They can only manifest the marks specific to half-elves. They don't get any mark that either an elf or a human could have. |
| Illvillainy08-14-05, 01:06 PM | Half-elves can have the mark of passage. From the ECS, under half-elves dragonmarks on page 16. No they can't. That only refers to being a member of the houses. |
| Edymnion08-14-05, 01:08 PM | So why arn't there werehumans? There are. Wolfweres are wolves that become human. Basically any 'thrope can be switched around. They use the same stats, its just that the animal form is their default form, and human is their shifted form. |
| BellTower08-14-05, 01:23 PM | Half-elves can have the mark of passage. From the ECS, under half-elves dragonmarks on page 16 Although not a human or elf, a half-elf can manifest the Mark of Passage or the Mark of Shadows or any other elf/human mark. Actually, they can't. They CAN be members of the houses but that does NOT mean they can manifest the marks reserved for humans or elves. That's my interpretation anyways. You're free to rule however you want. |
| The White Sorcerer08-14-05, 01:24 PM | Half-elves can have the mark of passage. From the ECS, under half-elves dragonmarks on page 16 "Since the union of elves and humans sometimes produces half-elves that are not part of the true-breeding race, a small number of half-elves can be found among the human- and elf-controlled dragonmark houses." So? Doesn't meant they can manifest the marks. |
| Edymnion08-14-05, 01:29 PM | Actually, they can't. They CAN be members of the houses but that does NOT mean they can manifest the marks reserved for humans or elves. That's my interpretation anyways. You're free to rule however you want. Its pretty easy, actually. There are racial pre-reqs for the dragonmark feats. A half-elf can only meet the prereqs for the half-elf marks. Of course, it does bring the question to mind of a Changling with the Racial Emulation feat... |
| hiryuu08-14-05, 01:35 PM | Actually, I think it was Hiryuu that had a bunny girl shifter artificer that I really liked. That was the elf who claimed to be a dire halfling! Ont he subject of "human lycanthropes," one of the requirements for being eligible is an animal. Now, while I consider humans to be just another animal, in D&D, they are of the type "humanoid," and thus cannot become lycanthropic in nature. Though I remember a fun character that was otherwise. "Here are two human gold pieces, I mean, here's some cash." |
| DogOnWheels08-14-05, 01:41 PM | A Bunny-girl shifter?? Yeah, & I'll bet that it was a guy that played that one, the pages of his character sheet sticking together :yuck: As far as the Kender, uh yeah I can relate, except at this public game a guy played a Kender & he was the most fantastic player & roleplayer, so it made an otherwise horrible game, bareable. |
| Realmsrat08-14-05, 01:42 PM | There are half-elves amongst the human and elf houses. But they can never hope to manifest a dragonmark from a human or elf house. Come to think of it, half-elves are probably prefered as diplomats because you know they can't manifest a mark on you. |
| Just another user08-14-05, 01:43 PM | Eberron Kender would totally rock. Just two words "Villain Kender" "when he'll be free my Daelkyr master will destroy your kingdoms, burn your cities, kill your... ooooooh, shiny!!!!" :D |
| Twiggly the Gnome08-14-05, 01:54 PM | "when he'll be free my Daelkyr master will destroy your kingdoms, burn your cities, kill your... ooooooh, shiny!!!!" :D I could see kender as daelkyr twisted halflings. :coolcthul |
| JoAT08-14-05, 01:55 PM | That is like there being a werebunny in D&D, a were-freakin-bunny! Werefox, maybe, werebunnies, NO! Were animals are supposed to be predators! Someone hasn't studied up on his Dragon Archives. All Hail the Lagomorph!! And the Dread Man-eating Dire Sheep... |
| Manyfist08-14-05, 02:24 PM | I allow that Half-Elves that are born of both Human and Elf, can manifest a Dragonmark of Human and Elven bloodlines. Since they do have Human and Elven blood. ;) They'res a 50% that if their is a mark it will be Aberrant, 25% Mother's Side, and 25% Father's side. The total is that theirs really a 25% chance they will manifest a Dragonmark at all. Half-Elves have Elven blood: Which allows them to qualify as they were a full blood elf, and Human Blood: which allows them to qualify as they were full blooded Human. Yet a true breeding Half-Elf, looses both those ablities. |
| Charles Phipps08-14-05, 02:26 PM | So do Bunny Girl Shifter's have a relationship to the anniversary of Tira Mirron's triumph? Do they hide basilisk eggs to celebrate? On a related note, I also find Wily Wonka the Daelkyr to be very wrong. Almost as bad as Plush Cthulhu Rajah. I never did it but now I'm also tempted to bring up a game where the players meet a damaged warforged who is from a Cannith controlled town where 6 modified warforged have been created with magical attachments related to ice, fire, strength, blades, electricity, and bombs and their commander Wily D'Cannith intends to use them to take over the world. He also has a warforged dog and simaculum sister. |
| Edymnion08-14-05, 02:34 PM | I never did it but now I'm also tempted toGoogle "Mighty Orbots". |
| Charles Phipps08-14-05, 02:36 PM | Google "Mighty Orbots". Oh brother. Fun stuff though. In my case, it was Megaman the Warforged. |
| Edymnion08-14-05, 02:49 PM | Oh brother. Fun stuff though. In my case, it was Megaman the Warforged.Yeah, I know. But the Mighty Orbots could be done as WF too :) |
| Just another user08-14-05, 02:51 PM | Someone hasn't studied up on his Dragon Archives. All Hail the Lagomorph!! And the Dread Man-eating Dire Sheep... And let's not forget the Vorpal Bunny. |
| Charles Phipps08-14-05, 02:54 PM | And let's not forget the Vorpal Bunny. Thank god I never had the problem of... "Can I play a bunch of Turtle Shifter Ninjas from Sarlonans?" "I'll be a bunny shifter samurai." BTW, in real life games, has anyone had any problem with players expecting City Goblins to act like Gully Dwarves? |
| anarco_rata08-14-05, 03:32 PM | Oo why are you insulting my people? read my sig about kenders, that's your anwser right there. But! kenders are not from eberron and they should never be. I hate when people mix campaign settings. Adding a race to a world changes EVERYTHING. If kender or hengeyokai where in eberron, it would be a completely different world... about the were-humans, well, to the wolves the were-wolves are were-humans, jsut like half elves are half humans for an elf. The unexplored continents seem to be the opening door to tons of peopel to insert whatever the hell they want into eberron without thinking of the consequences. Like i said, one single race changes everything. The only exception to this would be human "subraces" like Elan or even half giant. Also, that idea of Wily d' Canith was very good ^^ it took me back to my years with my old nintendo.... |
| Just another user08-14-05, 04:33 PM | In another thread (now lost in the depths of the forum) I hipotized(sp) that kender were another of the race "made" by the giants, like the drow, except that kender were meant more as pets that as servant, you know someone witty and silly to keep company to young giants. Now if only I'd be able to find that thread... |
| ParanoidWarforged08-14-05, 05:01 PM | Uh, my nick isn't anything to do with the NPC wofo i had accompanying my party across the mournland ("well pardon me for using healing magic- which i can't do anyway, so i don't even know why i bothered to say that- oh sovereigns i'm so depressed..."). And if you're looking for were-humans, check out Angua's brother in the Discworld novels :p. There's even werewolves that can't change shape- or, more accurately, they change shape to the same shape as before :D. |
| Sieylianna08-14-05, 09:45 PM | Half-elves can have the mark of passage. From the ECS, under half-elves dragonmarks on page 16 Although not a human or elf, a half-elf can manifest the Mark of Passage or the Mark of Shadows or any other elf/human mark. The text doesn't say that. The text says you can find half-elves among the houses and the text on dragon mark houses says that the houses are made up of a mixture of marked and unmarked members. Ed |
