| Hungry_Backpack02-28-06, 04:06 PM | hi. i'm a rather new member, so this is my first post, and i'm not a very experience dnd-player, so this might be a silly question. i've got my hands on the PGE and i read about the high binders, and thought "cool. high level requirements, but cool". for to have the bind elemental feat, you have to be a 9th level caster. right? so when i read about high binders in the world and found out that one of the high binders is a level 5 artificer/high binder 7, i kinda wondered how he had pulled that one off. for, as stated above, isn't the bind elemental feat 4 levels away for that artificer, and therefore he could not have become a high binder at that level? so is this some kind of mistake in the book, or is there something i have overlooked? thanks in advance The Hungry Backpack edit: i forgot to write the page number to where this lvl 5 artificer/7 high binder is. stupid me. at the bottom left of page 107 in PGE. i hope to get some answers soon, cause this thing really bothers me. |

| Edymnion02-28-06, 08:58 PM | Yeah, there are a few mistakes like there here and there (like one of the Phantom Knights I think it was that had a wrong class in his build). Just substitute as many Artificer levels as need for HB levels until its a legal build, and you'll be fine. Its *REALLY* easy to overlook something like that in a statblock, its not something you can really catch unless you specifically decompile them. At least not when you're the one that wrote it, because you tend to gloss over things like that because you think its correct, and you don't really look at it. |

| Euangelion03-01-06, 10:42 PM | My guess is that the one who wrote up the PrC got Elemental Binding (CL 9) mixed up with Elemental Grafter (CL 5). I'm going by the fact that the highest skill level requirement is 8 ranks, which would indicate to me that the person had in mind entry at 5th level for a wizard (using the bonus feat at 5th to take Elemental Binding). Another way of handling it (besides Edy's suggestion) is to remove the Elemental Binding feat as a requirement, since their class abilities are only temporary binds anyway. Then give Elemental Binding as a bonus feat at 5th level of the PrC (thus equaling at least a CL of 9, just right for the feat). This makes the class slightly better than before, so if that bothers you simply remove the caster level increase at 6th or remove another ability to compensate. |
