A player in my campaign will be taking the Devoted Defender PrC eventually. The character, unfortunately, is not a member of House Deneith. Sharn - City of Towers states that "[t]he Defender's Guild is comprised entirely of members of the Deneith bloodline."

So what are the odds of them accepting a non-member?

Hmm, I'd say "slim and none."

However, if he were to do some GREAT service to the house... maybe they'd let him be an honorary member... or maybe he is actually part of the bloodline (can we say Least Dragonmark feat?) and didn't know it!

I'd say they might let him join but it would be a probationary membership and he has to prove his worth to them. I.e. Plothook

Two possibilities here.

1) Have them join the Blademarks instead of the Defenders.

2) Just because they aren't a blood member of House Deneith NOW doesn't mean they can't ever be. If they take the Least Dragonmark feat, and choose the Mark of the Sentinel, then they've just proved 100% that they are a long lost member of House Deneith, as only they can manifest that mark.

Of course, if they are a non-human or already have another Dragonmark, then they're just screwed. Sorry, but you can't have everything you want. They wanted Devoted Defender, they should have talked with you as the DM about it before they picked something differant.

I say marriage. That would make them a family member. But there is also the possibility of adoption or honary family member, but that would require some sort of huge gesture or action.
