Hello players and Dm's on the thread. One of my favorite adventures is the Night Below boxed set. I was wondering how to adapt Night Below to Eberron. Where do you think it should be located and what would you add to make the campaign Eberron style.

Thnx,

The premise works beautifully. All you need is a section of Deepearth where the Daelkyr don't go...and there the Aboleth dominate. Even the Daelkyr might not want to tangle with the oldest Aberrations of Khyber.

Since the starting premise of the adventure deals with the kidnapping of wizards, I'd probably start in the Aundair area...someplace fairly rural. Work the module in from there.

Note that illithid prescence and beholder prescence translates to Daelkyr prescence. Also, the intervention of fiends at the end of the module suggests that the fiends and aboleths are rivals and not followers, and the devils are from either off plane or a rival sect of the Lords of the Dust.

You may want to scrap the fiends entirely (all girl band of fiends?) and replace with rakshasa.

Also keep in mind that taking the axe to the aboleths might just let the influence of the Daelkyr swarm into the power vacuum thus created.

As for Duergar and Svirfneblin, I'll leave the status of those to you. Both could be twisted races bred/influenced by the daelkyr or aboleth, rebelling against their overlords...for the Duergar, especially, there's the strong possiblity of ties to the Mror Clans who think all their ancient kin are destroyed...and what would the gnomes think of surface dwelling kin? Did they think all the surface gnomes were dead? Did they even know surface gnomes existed? What of the elves down there? Their history is certainly warped by some form of elemental magic, and very different from the elven nation as we know it...you may want to scrap much of their racial uniqueness to fit in with Eberron, their character levels alone make them awesomely powerful in the setting.

Oddly enough I was just thinking of trying to run at least some of The Night Below in Eberron. I was thinking I would basically throw most of the first book "The Evils of Haranshire" out the window. I don't think the towns of Milborne and Harlaton have a very Ebberon feel to them. A lot of the material in that book is kind of generic and my PCs are going to be at least 3rd level by the time I would get around to starting Night Below anyway. I want to make my own baddies to replace the dominated bandit kidnappers, including dolgaunts/dolgrims and dominated individuals nabbed from other Eberron organizations. I also want to come up with something different to use as the PCs entrance to the depths of Khyber rather than the cavern of the Bloodskull orcs. On the plus side, Eberron offers lots of caster types (including magewrights and people with dragonmarks) for the aboleths' minions to kidnap.

As an additional twist, I was thinking of putting the aboleth city of Shaboath on the east side of Lake Arul, underground just inside the Mournland. On the Day of Mourning, the same effect that wiped out Cyre killed many of the aboleths and kua-toa who then rose as undead such as the corpse creature template from BoVD.

My plan is start the PCs in Vathirond in eastern Breland and have most of the action take place in the nearby area where Breland, Thrane and the Mournland meet. There are a lot of parts of The Night Below campaign that I think are pretty classic, like the shadow dragon / behir cavern and the intelligent weapon, Finslayer.

I can't decide if I want to use the rockseer elves or not....still trying to work out how their history would fit into Eberron. (Maybe they were a splinter group from the original elven settlers of Valenar that fled underground when the settlement was abandoned? *shrug*) I'm also still trying to come up with ways to fit in more Eberron specific things. I guess airships are out, but the tumbler from Magic of Eberron might be interesting.

Hope that all helps. My plans are still at the theoretical stages and I'd be interested to hear other opinions.

Thanx for your reply A-loss. I like your idea of replacing the kidnappers with some Khyber villians. I was thinking of using the BARON who son wants to join the party as a person who owns and older model airship we can be used as SIDETREK adventures since he might have some business contact in SHARN.

My view of the rockseer elves are there descendants from Xen'drik who stole a powerful earth magic artifact while on the way to Khyber the artifact was heavily damaged and "leaked" earth magic energy once they reached Khyber the artifact exploded and and the elves were able to contain most of the earth magic energy which gave them there innate abilites, and used some the energy to setup the portal system etc, or maybe they have some new type of earth magic dragonmark.

I was thinking the Shadow dragon is a regenade member of the Cults of the Dragon Below. I might keep the Bloodskull Orcs making descdants of the Last War. As far as the 2 towns i was thinking of making the more Eberron by adjusting a few details. Since i'm strating at 1st level maybe the group should start in Sharn and end up in Aundair were im going to start the adventure.
