itraylor 07-30-07, 09:22 PM	I am working on a background for one of my characters and I was wondering what the situation with House Cannith was at the time of the cataclysmic events on The Day of Mourning? Was Merrix d’Cannith already in Sharn? Was there an enclave in Sharn? Basically the situation is that the character was on the fringes of disaster and was able to escape Cyre but knowing in what state house politics were at the time of The Day of Mourning would help a lot in determining how/why he went to Sharn and Cannith South. If someone knows where this information could be obtained in books just point me in the right direction and I would appreciate it. Thanks and good gaming!
DyloniusFunk 07-30-07, 10:09 PM	I'm pretty sure Dragonmarked has a backstory of the three Cannith Barons. If you don't have it then i think it's safe to say that they were allready established in thier bases of power since there's nothing pre-Dragonmarked to suggest otherwise. I don't know if Dragonmarked explains why eahc one thought them best to rule the house and can't remember if it's mentioned in Dragonmarked. Considering it's only two eyars between the MOurning and 998 when the campaign is assumed to take place in the ECS then the main enclaves would have been established for a while and ewach baron would have thier own pwoer base estabished
itraylor 07-31-07, 06:33 AM	I have the book and it does have a description of how the house is split now, but it does not go into detail about how it was right before it split. I will go with the suggestion that they were already established in those regions though. Also The Day of Mourning was in 994 so there is a four year time difference which is well enough time for a unified House Cannith to grow apart and establish three enclaves. Guess I was just wondering was everything great until the leader of the house died and there was a huge gap in leadership or were these factions already in place some what. Thanks.
Nightshade 07-31-07, 01:52 PM	Right, Dylonius meant 2 years since the signing of the Treaty of Thronehold and 4 years since the Mourning. House Cannith would have been the biggest war profiteer of all the Dragonmarked Houses just before the war ended. It was sitting pretty. Rich and busy and hoping that the Last War would never end. There would have been enclaves in all of the 5 nations with the weakest, smallest one being in Thrane, since Thrane relies so much more on divine magics and traditional warfare. The largest enclave was in Cyre, where the Patriarchs and Matriarchs of the house lived and worked. When the Mourning occurred, it wiped out the strongest artificers in Khorvaire along with most of House Cannith's money, resources and manpower. It went from nominal leader of the Dragonmarked House's to a House divided. A long fall. Note: some minor material on post-mourning Cannith is also found in Keith Baker's novel, City of Towers.
wolffman007 07-31-07, 11:50 PM	if memory serves me correct, i also thought some of House Cannith had been forwarned about the disater, but not by much as i recall. no details on how thou if someone else recalls more details please chime in
