| Lucifi06-23-04, 05:44 PM | So, I asked Hellcow where the volcano city of Cauldron would fit best within the Eberron campaign setting. He said he had not reviewed the adventure path and told me to ask in the general thread what other people thought. I have already started the campaign and have placed Cauldron in the Howling Peaks, mainly because it was the only one that fit best with the area surrounding Cauldron. I was just curious who else had thoughts on this and if they are also using Cauldron in Eberron, where they had put it. |
| gzombie06-25-04, 01:15 PM | I am also interested in this topic as well. I've already started the adventure path but my players want to convert to Eberron. Since I am very new to the setting, I just got the book today and have not really been following the sneak peaks, any suggestions would be helpful.:) |

What effect has the 'Last War' had on the citizens of Cauldron? Which Dragon Marked are in town? What do you think of ogres guarding the four town gates? or warforged? What else can you think of? |
| Tobias_the _invincible06-25-04, 07:56 PM | Well, for the gods, clerics of the silver flame can replace St cuthbert, Dol Dorrn for Kord, Dol Arrah for Pelor and Aureon for Wee Jas. The ebony traid in " Flood season" can be replaced with dark six worshippers, with skaven worshipping the keeper, Triel the devourer and Tahngarst the shadow. you can place the campaign in the endworld mountains, with cauldron and the towns around it being a small settlement. It could also take place in the howling peaks sure. The Last War could be what cut the settlement off from the rest of the kingdoms. However, through aid from the halflings (if in the endworld mountains) the settlement has pulled through. If you folow this idea, house Ghallanda and Jorasco are found in Cauldron. Maavu and the high handcrafters can be replaced with house Cannith. House Lyrandar, being on of the only houses who can reach the settlement can also have a presence. Carceri could be a demiplane, where long ago, servants of the daelkry (the demoands) could have been imprisoned. A campaign seed to add would be the chamber asking the players to get rid of Dhorolt. They find the idea of a dragon wanting to mate with non-dragons abhorrent. I hope these ideas help. |
| Lucifi06-25-04, 09:12 PM | Also one of the main reasons I had put Cauldron in the Howling Peaks in Zilargo was that... "Gnome architects and artisans designed and built much of Cauldron. One of these architects, a gnome wizard named Jzadirune, also found time to carve out a secluded enclave beneath the city for himself and his kin." Dungeon #97, page 58 ... this area seems to be a heavy gnome populated area as well. Zilargo Population: 250,000 (60% gnomes, 16% humans, 11% dwarves, 7% kobolds, 6% other races) Cauldron Population: 4,500 (79% human, 9% halfling, 5% gnome, 3% dwarf, 2% elf, 1% half-elf, 1% half-orc, also placing Eberron races in as you see fit) Since the enclave of Jzadirune is also subject to the magical disease called The Vanishing, I can also see why Cauldron itself would not have a high gnome population. They simply would not want to be around it. Then the humans, being the next highest percentage would have of course, slowly over time become the highest percentage race of Cauldron. Boldrei = St. Cuthbert Dol Arrah = Pelor Aureon = Wee Jas Dol Dorn = Kord Kol Korran = Fharlanghn (merchants and travelers revere both) which applies to the Striders of Fharlanghn. I figured that House Ghallanda (powers related to food and shelter) would be present in Cauldron since the orphanage itself is run by a halfling. I have House Cannith taking a seat with Maavu and the High Handcrafters. I have House Lyrandar as a major influence with the Windwrights caravans that come in and out of the city. House Lyrandar would also have been the ones who helped make the original wands for Flood Season, but I still made that a big thing for the churches rather than the house, simply making it so that the representative of the Raincallers was not in Cauldron when the problems happened. I also liked some of the suggestions of Tobias, with the Ebony Triad and who they worship. That is what I have so far... I have to get to work on it, but the new job is slowing me down, so I still have to do some more background work in converting things in Cauldron so it fits with Eberron. |
| Tobias_the _invincible06-30-04, 07:07 AM | Since I just got issue 111, I'll add a few more suggestions: Khyron can worship the keeper. Velior can worship the mockery Zarn Kyass could be from Droaam. PCs from Drooam could recognise him (campaign hook) Adrick might be from House Kundarak If you want to, you could add an agent from the Aurum to the list of guests at Thirifane's. Also, for what it's worth, from flood season, Tarkilars believes Skaven worships the mockery and Triel thinks he worships the Traveler. |
| Ph0eNiX07-03-04, 11:27 PM | Well, the best thing would be to figure out climate conditions of the various areas of Eberron... We know that the area around Cauldron is a tropical jungle (complete with some random dinosaurs), and that there are ancient ruins from spellweavers around here and there. As far as my other thoughts go, I was thinking that the cagewrights weren't trying to open a link to Carceri, but rather trying to open passage from deep within Khyber to release some of the evils that were imprisoned there. Perhaps the Demondands were once guardians of the light and appointed to help maintain the evil within it's prison, but their time within Khyber transformed them into the cruel evil creatures they are now - both jailer and prisoner. |
