CD-RW's don't like Sharn CD? [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-14-04, 11:27 AM I have a MISI CD-RW on my PC and it doesn't recognize the Sharn CD, but the old CD player I've had for years on my PC has no problems ... strange.

It's called a "protected" CD. It is to prevents dirty Intarweb pirates from looting and pillaging those musics. And the only way to prevent something from being copied, is to prevent it from being read! You're lucky you have one player that can read it, though. Ironically, lots of people have come to download musics illegally because they couldn't listen to the albums they bought. Way to go, RIAA! :rolleyes:

A lot of businesses seem out of touch with reality, these schemes barely even slow down a determined copier. Go onto a file share network and look up Metallica's St. Anger album, you'll find it easy, though just being Metallica makes them more prone to being copied. These schemes limit their usability, and I agree that they do not conform to what can accurately be called a CD. However if you're looking to make a backup copy so you can move it around without scratching it I'd just make a tape, should work easily and tapes aren't nearly as fragile as CDs.
