| DM_Dracophile05-28-07, 12:31 AM | So, I have this rather strange group of characters. All are ex-criminals of one sort or another. Two are students of perversion and corruption. Two are war criminals. One is just too savage and bloodthirsty for his own good. We have a Daelkyr Half-Blood Beguiler with a thing for all things twisted and slimy (and she's our single female player...) We have an Elan Psywarrior/Divine Mind with the Corruption and Madness mantles. We have a Chaos Monk, a Warblade, and a Shifter Barbarian. All have ties to the concepts of Chaos in one way, shape, or form. I'm seriously considering guiding the party into becoming direct agents of the various forces of madness, corruption, and chaos which inhabit Eberron; whether that be the Daelkyr, Xoriat, Lords of Dust, Quori...or something else. None of these folks see their characters as 'bad guys' and all are motivated to do things that one might consider 'good deeds'...but all for some rather twisted reasons. So I've got this wonderful challenge in front of me..and I could use some advice. How to run a game of misfits and mutants, where they feel like they're heroes...while still embracing all that makes them strange and bizarre. Any advice is most welcome. |

To send them to do something - only to cause a big ruckus and make people confused, to destroy, etc. Alternatively, the LoD and the DD may need jobs done - jobs that cannot be associated with them. "Get x for me." And so they send these guys. In fact, check out Dungeon #147 - the Aundarian job. It's a bank robbery story where the PCs have to heist something from a Kundarak bank in Passage. They are originally stealing an item for Good, but you could just change the person who wants the item to a Quori agent or a Rakshasa and BAM. |
| BrotherDog05-28-07, 04:42 AM | It too limiting and closeminded to equate Chaos with Evil like you are doing. Especially since most things evil are more the side of law. For instance: intolerence, hatred, tyranny, slavery. It is also silly to see lawful forces such as entropy and vengence be equated with chaos as well, when these ideals are the paragons of law. Certain aspects of the party would make good candidates for unconventional gatekeepers. Particularly the half-Dael becoming an Impure Prince. |
| DM_Dracophile05-28-07, 08:23 AM | Corruption need not equal moral degradation, but is certainly indicative of Change, Mutation, and certainly in line with Chaos. My goal was to seek help with suggestions for a party who might embody forces of Chaos, without necessarily becoming actual Evil themselves. The Gatekeepers are an interesting suggestion, but the Daelkyr Half-Blood doesn't really have the mindset to be an Impure Prince. Good catch on the Quori. Just can't fit it into my head that forces of Nightmare are disciplined and Lawful lol |

Perhaps they could become some kind of vigilante group in Karrnath. Or maybe they could be agents of one the repentant Beholders that wish to right their wrongs from the invasion. |
| DM_Dracophile05-29-07, 09:25 PM | Oooo! Repentant Beholder! Now that I like! Any specific locale I might find more info on such rare beasties? |
