Toloran 12-03-07, 05:21 PM	My party is about to run through EotLQ and I am considering using this as a catalyst for future adventures (and eventually a future campaign). One of the party members is a Changeling, and I was thinking about giving her an Aberrant mark that (after the final battle of EotLQ) catalyzes in to a True Changeling Dragonmark (the Mark of Changing). Least/Base Dragonmark: 1/day Mask Aberrant Mark, +2 on Disguise Checks. (Mask Aberrant Mark is from Dragonmarked and allows you to make your dragonmark look like any true dragonmark, its powers do not change.) Lesser Dragonmark: 1/day Emulate Least Dragonmark (Emulate Least Dragonmark is a homebrew spell that allows the bearers of the Mark of Changing to emulate any least true dragonmark power. This does not change what the mark looks like but perfectly emulates its powers. However, the user must make a fortitude test (DC 14+ effective level of emulated mark) or be nauseated for 1d10 rounds after using this power). Greater Dragonmark: 1/day Emulate Lesser Dragonmark (Emulate Lesser Dragonmark is the same as Emulate Least Dragonmark except it can emulate any Lesser or Least true dragonmark. The DC save is 16+ effective level of emulated mark). Siberys Dragonmark: 1/day Emulate Greater Dragonmark (As Emulate Least Dragonmark except any Least, Lesser, or Greater true mark. Fortitude save is DC 18+ emulated mark.) So the main question is: These marks (well, all but the least) are quite powerful since they not only give the flexibility of having all those powers at their disposal but is also allows changelings to easily infiltrate a Dragonmarked house since if they have to demonstrate the power they can. However this all comes at a price since the mark (which was formerlly an aberrant) physically drains a person who uses it far more then a normal mark.
Zadmar 12-03-07, 06:53 PM	I don't own the Dragonmarked book, so I don't know if there are any exceptions in there, but as far as I'm aware you can't get the Siberys mark if you've already got a least, lesser or greater mark. A Changeling can get a specific least mark in EotLQ, but that would block them from getting the Siberys mark. Having said that, I suppose you could give the player the choice of taking a level in the Heir of Siberys prestige class (assuming they're high enough level by that point). I'm also planning on running EotLQ, but I'm going to set it further back in history, shortly after the Last War begins. The intention is to run the game through the entirety of the Last War, with lots of downtime between adventures*. As the party consists almost entirely of Changelings (four of them, and one elf), and they'll have plenty of time to have offspring, this has left me wondering if their mark could be passed on - perhaps even giving rise to a new House (and of course, if the mark can be passed on, their children could then potentially develop the Siberys mark). I might have to brutally steal your idea, as it would fit very nicely with my campaign - a secret House who infiltrate and spy upon the other Dragonmarked Houses. The campaign should be fairly high level by the end of the Last War, so I'd like to move it in a more political direction at that point. Personally I'd probably limit the mark somewhat though, maybe requiring the Changeling to "realign" it after a period of rest whenever they want to change it (much like a Wizard memorising spells), so that it's not too much of a swiss army knife. I'd also require the players to spend some time studying each mark (and perhaps seeing it in action) before being able to immitate it. * Yes, I'm aware that for some reason Changelings have a relatively short lifespan, but I'll likely houserule an increased lifespan as another side-effect when they get their marks.
