| LK02-09-05, 10:21 PM | Minor Change Shape (Su): Changelings have the supernatural ability to alter their appearance as though using a disguise self spell that affects their bodies but not their possessions. Source: ECS Disguise Self You make yourself—including clothing, armor, weapons, and equipment—look different. You can seem 1 foot shorter or taller, thin, fat, or in between. You cannot change your body type. Otherwise, the extent of the apparent change is up to you. You could add or obscure a minor feature or look like an entirely different person. The spell does not provide the abilities or mannerisms of the chosen form, nor does it alter the perceived tactile (touch) or audible (sound) properties of you or your equipment. If you use this spell to create a disguise, you get a +10 bonus on the Disguise check. Source: SRD Just thinking about it... does this mean that the best changeling disguisers go around naked? Since the extent of apparent change is up to you (but changelings can't affect clothing), changelings could effectively go around with nothing but a cloak and belt and convincing others that they are wearing superhero-style spandex body suits? |
| Gurv02-09-05, 10:29 PM | Well, sort of. The changeling's shapechange ability won't create clothing. I suppose it might be be possible to alter a changeling's skin to be the color of clothing. At best, it would be skin tight clothes. You might fool someone into thinking you were dressed from a distance, but it would be pretty obvious to anyone who got a good look at you. I would say that it would work poorly, if it worked at all. And what are the advantages? If you can only disguise yourself as someone who would look normal in skin-tight clothes (and I can't think of many), you've limited yourself further, nor less. Now you have no equipment. |
| okaynowa02-10-05, 01:28 AM | I don't know about spandex, but a full-body tattoo is probably possible. The ECS mentions the DC penalty for trying to imitate a Dragonmark, so we can probably assume that body art is not beyond the limitations of minor shape change. Not that a full-body tattoo is gonna help a changeling blend in... Presumably Races of Eberron will provide some sort of changeling feats that expand their natural abilities. |
| Bluebrush02-10-05, 07:53 AM | As it stands, you still can't change your clothes with a changeling's shapeshift ability. The sharn sourcebook has a magic set of clothes which can look like any of a set of five outfits. Also there's glamered armour. |
| Serpentine02-10-05, 09:32 PM | It should be possible: get a couple of gloves of storing and one of those belts with extradimensional pockets. Sharn's warm year-round. But I'm a fan of Alan Moore's comic Top Ten, with the officer that can change her skin patterns. It doesn't take a lot of convincing for me. http://www.angelfire.com/comics/mooreportal/girlone.html |

| hiryuu03-06-05, 01:10 PM | Dang, I have a hankerin' to play a changeling monk what looks like she's wearin' a sleeveless bodysuit and long gloves. |
| Tanvalis03-06-05, 03:38 PM | Yeah, my wife is playing a Changling Bard and we just advanced to 3rd Level, so with the cash we garnered from our last adventure she went out and bought Glamored Elven Chainmail. Heh, talk about a HAUL! Anyway, now she can change her looks, change her clothes, and STILL be protected and cast her spells... DAMN that's a good way to go eh! |
