| Saurenda07-29-04, 01:46 AM | Ethan Euler Wizard (conjurer) Shifter level 4 CG Ethan's family member have always assisted the church of the silver flame, yet recent poltical debate has revealed his family to house and protect an atual lycanthrope of blood relation. He retreated to Sharn from Thrane to escape persecution and return to his study of the arcan arts. Quick to his temper and jealous of anyone who underminds his achivements, he is certain that he can overcome his family's past and discover the truth of who is manipulating his family. He is a students of Sharn Sorcery School. Allana Sigmund Wizard (Abjurer) Human Level 4 CG Allana's family is wealthy and has lived in Brey for a great majority of thier bloodline. She enjoys the life of an aristocrat, yet studies daily to discern her craft. She enjoys dueling and is often willing to part with a gem or treasure to provoke a duel rather than a harsh word. Her grandfather believed to have passed away was one of the first to research spells to use on warriors, rather then warforged to resist enemy riders and spell casters. He was given the Nick name 'Certain Sigmund' as most of his ideas would provoke certain doom or victory. Allana enjoys the benefit of her deceased grandfather's patents as she continues his work. Allan is also a Student at SSS. Hurask Half Orc Bard level 3 NG Hurask once lived in Brey with his lover, a Chroncler named Juran female expert level 2 TN. He often lays about the country side singing and plucking strings on his instruments as if in deed thought. His past is a mystery, yet his bardic knowledge is so percise that it seems as though his memory reaches back for nearly two centuries or more. Faith Female personality Warforged CG level 3 Faith has issuses with other Gods. She cannot stand anyone who does not worship Onatar, god of forge and artifice. She believes that humans and other fleshy races should be enslaved and taught to respect the warforge, not slaughtered. She believes this gentle supremecy will show the inherent perfection of constructial mercy as apposed to the example of the last war were people slaughtered one another and encoked her kind to do the same. She is as fierece in her religon as any raging Barbarian. She cannot stand puns and tends to be physical with her emotions, often slapping a partner on the back for a good idea or putting heavy mace through thier head when they annoy her. After all, she can always repair the damage later. |
| EberronJunkie07-29-04, 05:36 AM | Jaerd Watson. Bard 4, Master inquisitive 4. Human NG. Jaerd was born, lives and hopes not to die in Sharn. A master slueth Jaerd is hired by both the local authorities and a few Dragonmarked families to perform certain tasks of problem solving and investigation, such as how someone can mysteriously fall on their own sword. Several times. He has recently teamed up with the Warforged Anon, who's philosophical conundrums do little to get Jaerd's no nonsense carefree nonplussed attitude out of wack. Recently both have snuck away from the city of towers towards the fabled land of Xen'Drik, after a mis-hap with a daughter from house Orien, and Anon's misinterpretation of things as a persons right to have all their limbs intact and unbroken. After a few hiccups with local )customs and the like, Jaerd has to keep a low profile, something this rather egocentric bard has a hard time doing. Anon. Monk 6. Warforged male personality, LN. Anon, short for anonymous as he has yet to chose a name for himself, as he wishes to find the perfect word that sums up himself as he was, is and what he can be. He also believes that all wisdom can be derived from a dictionary that he carries with him within a leather pouch, and constantly qoutes it, much to Jaerd's dismay, who tries to explain that a written word can only be so much help. This misguided warforged is however a resilient and reliable companion in a pinch and will willingly throw himself in harms way to protect his half elven comrade. Anon is also helpful at opening doors. Ril (short for Rillastil Quel'barra). Ranger 4, Extreme Explorer 3. Female Xen'Drik Drow, CN. Ril is a sword, hunter and tracker for hire. She is a no nonsense, terse kind of gal, who likes nothing better than the thrill of the chase and bringing her quarry low. Monster, human, giant or fellow dark elf, she hunts them all with somewhat reckless abandon. She does however have a vice for the finer things in life, and her opinion can be swayed with enough gold or the glitter of diamond. Recently teaming up with the hap hazard pair Jaerd and Anon, Ril had to leave the local town rather hastily, after one of her contacts sold her out to her kin, when her last mark, a drow rogue who'd been dipping his fingers into too many financial pies, was found to be the prodical son of a respected Drow chieftain. Needless to say, the hunter has now become the hunted, but on her own turf, and with a couple of would be sacrificial compatriots/ friends in arms, Ril is confident on her prolonged survival. |
| EvilMasterOfEvilDice07-29-04, 08:52 PM | N'ashalan, shifter ranger 1. born in cyre. village destroyed at age 11. fleees into mountains . meets warforged alchewmist. warforged teaches nashalan ranger skills. the 2 go adventuring. warforged is killed by evil mage. nashalan swears vengeance. |
| EvilMasterOfEvilDice07-30-04, 04:50 AM | now that i have time to spare, let me extend the story of N'ashalan the shifter ranger (CN): N'ashalan was born of the nation of Cyre. from the age of two he noticed that while playing contact games with the other children, he would accidentally scratch them (an early manifestation of the Razorclaw ability). soon enough the children shunned him. when he was eleven, his town was destroyed along with the rest of Cyre. he fled into the night, and a warforged alchemist found him. they both retreated up into the mountains, where they spent the next 5 years living up there and learning from one another. when N'ashalan was 20, the warforged and him left the mountains and journeyed around, doing the occasional good thing, but one night, the pair were attacked by a group of thieves, accompanied by a human mage. in the battle, the warforged was annihalated by the mage, and the enemy fled from N'ashalan's rage. the only part of the warforged that survived was the eyes and a cord. from this N'ashalan made a headband, and on the eyes of his warforged friend and mentor he swore to avenge his death. he hates humanity for he believes that they destroyed his village and his only friend. he embraces nature and does not associate with anyone for long periods of time. he has walked away from the murders of hundreds of people and for this no-one will voluntarily deal with him also: we should have a backstory of the week thing going. |
| Saurenda07-30-04, 10:34 AM | Just once, just once I'd like an ordinary background of a character where the objective of the character wasn't revenge =D Even if a character has something to prove to an organization or group that they believe had wronged them. It seems, from reading the "1001 character backgrounds you never want to here again" thread in the DM section that this revenge and I want to kill . Which for kobolds and stuff maybe fine, but when the person wants to reject all of humanity, thats a major obstivle to overcome. For instance why whould this person ever come to Sharn? It doesn't seem logical that they would, the closetest they may get is the King's Forest, and that is controled by the Knight Rangers, which I believe are mostly human, and the Jungle Boys who while are half orcs, I doubt he would want to go a pillaging if this ranger does indeed do the occasional "Good things". By he walked away form the murders of hundreds, do you mean he has killed hundreds of people, and other just let him get away with it? .[I]My DM senses are tingling. Yet again I bring up the thread "1001 backgrounds you never want to here again" Chaotic Nuetral characters are often some of the worst. I'm not critizing you, it just seems to me if I were asked to allow this character into my game I wouldn't. Even as an NPC. Read the worst PC/NPC backgrounds here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=4082413#post4082413) As for the Master Inquisitor, and Monk I love the those two. You were so subtle in the writing Eberron junkie you made me doubt wether your Warforged Anon opens doors to be polite, or opens them the hard way =D |
| weezoh07-30-04, 11:00 AM | Edit: GAH Double-post. Bad daemon, no biscuit! |
| weezoh07-30-04, 11:01 AM | Well, this was written before I had the campaign setting so some things could be changed a bit. (Not much revenge here, he's past that now) -- Good morning, my name is Schmoodigart von Orlensteen of the Zalanberg Orlensteens. Now I enjoy names as much as the next Gnome, but I realize that’s a bit of a mouthful so in interest of expediency, just call me Schmooie – everyone does. This is the opening salvo of my auto-biography. I am not about to shuffle off this ring of existence yet, so I don’t expect this to be finished by any stretch, but I’ve been around a long time, and plan to be around for a lot longer, I figure I’d better get started on this while I’m young and can keep up with it. At this point in my life I’ve decided to change careers. Of course, a lot of people are discovering they need to change careers, what with the war being over and all. Nation states can’t afford to keep all us soldiers on the payroll anymore with us not being considerate and dying and all. Ehhh. Well, I am glad to see this war over. Unlike a lot of my friends, I’m old enough to remember what the world was like before we were all trying to kill each other. I saw too many children live their whole lives, short lives at that, knowing nothing but war. Most of them living and dying in the throes of nationalism. Nationalism is fine and all, but it doesn’t put food on the table, except for some political familes. Although I grew up in Zalanberg, first stop on the great north-south lightning rail line out of Korranberg, I spent most of my life in Rabiesthorpe, a small Thorpe in the seawall mountains. I moved away from the big city to try to build a life grounded in simplicity. Was going to become a farmer with a wife and have a family, a dog, several chickens, a couple steers, maybe a goat. Had a good start on it too, had just married a lovely girl, started building a house, was negotiating with my neighbors borders of our steading. Then the war came, and with it the fires. Rabiesthorpe was burned to the ground, my wife, Lydia, was killed, I was knocked out and buried under what was to become our house. When I awoke, I found I had been rescued by an army unit marching into the mountains to track the raiders and eradicate them. I didn’t want to go back to Zalanberg to deal with my family. They weren’t thrilled about me deciding to up and move to the country and become a farmer. “A Dirt-grubbing farmer!” as my uncle Maz would say. So since I wasn’t going back, I decided that I had to go forward. I followed the army unit, The fourteenth Zalanberg scouts, as they took to the mountains. There I learned the fundamentals of mechanics and engineering and how to build things up and take things down. We never did catch up with the raiders, crossing the border into Darguur we started clashing with strong resistance. We figured that the raiders were Darguur irregulars in hindsight. The opening days of the war were like that, little skirmishes near the borders, usually hit and fade strikes without uniform or planning. Anyway I stayed with the scouts until the next spring and transferred to a legitimate engineer corps. At the time a very under staffed branch of the army. I cut my teeth on the very first warforged. Nothing like today’s models. They were clunky, prone to breaking down all time, at the worst times. It’s amazing that they gained such a foothold in the service that they stuck with them to improve them. So, I stayed with the army throughout the war, going from unit to unit until I finally stuck with the Third Constitutional Engineers for the last 50 years or so. When the war ended I was pensioned out and I’m trying to put my head back together. Decided that I just can’t go back to farming like nothing had happened over the last hundred years or so. So as I write this, I am packing up my things to go on the road. Going to see if I can earn some coins traveling around, taking odd jobs. _________________ -- Schmoodigart von Orlensteen |
| Markab07-30-04, 09:39 PM | Kirnon CG cleric 1 Kirnon was born to a priest of the soveriegn host in a small town. his father was loved by the community but secretly his father was stealing from the community. he was an abusive man. kirnon became hateful and rebellious as he grew. he hung around a group of local teens that venerated the dark six. He viewed the host as an evil and corrupt organization that needed to be stopped. his dedication to the dark six and their ideals of independence and liberation thrust him into the ranks of the crusading clerics. when he was 14 he left home and headed east into breland. after cyre was destroyed he saw it as a sign from his gods that the evil in that land had to be purged. he was happy. in his travels he helped the church of silver flame track down a band of thieves that were preying on local tradesmen. now he wears a silver flame badge as a symbol of their friendship. he prefers to stay in large cities so he can be lost in the croud, and live in peace. he works in the lower levels of sharn, to help ease the suffering of the people there. |
| kglethean07-31-04, 02:08 AM | Swift - Warforged Ranger Level 1 A unique Warforged created at the end of the war to work as a probing/scout soldier for a main battle force Swift has two remarkable traits. One is that his face plate can be lifted, much as a knights visor can, to reveal a stylized metal face in the form of a young boy with curly hair. A second is that he has a small tatoo resembling the lesser dragonmark of making on the base of his neck. What Swift doesn't know is that he isn't actually a Warforged (Though one should use warforged stats for game purposes) but a lifeless construct powered magically and infused with the soul of a dead blood heir of House Cannith. He was a Cannith artificier's failed attempt to bring his son back. Whether his father was interrupted and could not finish the spells or simply gave up on trying to bring back his sons memories is not know to anyone. Swift was eventually put to use in the military and none, including himself, have ever questioned his origins. Rah'zmer d'Cannith - Human Artificier Level 1 A direct dragonmarked heir within house Cannith Rah'zmer recently travelled to Sharn to find an adventuring group in the hopes of leaving to Xen'drik. Running from the bitter politics of his family (he hails from Merrix d'Cannith's region, but dissaproves of his leadership) he fears the day he will inevitably be drawn into his family's complex and painful relations as one of the three factions hopes to curry his favor if and when he becomes person of note. -kg |
| Soel Griffin07-31-04, 07:25 AM | Ll'Szier Atragoss, Shifter rogue 2 (just finished a session earlier and advanced to 4th lvl, but haven't actually raised him yet!) Ll'Szier is from the oppressive city of Graywall, in Droaam. He was making small coins as a laborer, supplementing his income with the occasional lifted purse. He grew tired of toiling away and seeing little to nothing earned, and also of the ruling class, with its full stomachs and pretty finery. Along with like minds (2 goblin thieves and a gnoll assassin/barber) he formed a small group of revolutionaries called the Revokers of the Struggle. Born half-way out of lesser-class idealism, half-way out of greed, this group was to eventually carry out underground actions against the ruling class of Graywall. Things changed when one of their information contacts, also a courier of House Orien, was murdered en-route to Wroat. The ensuing investigation also discovered one of the goblins, and fearing capture, this fledling band split company and L'Szier headed east for Sharn. Of course, thats when he met other companions, and a horde of zombies! |
| Simon Jester07-31-04, 03:33 PM | (Double post) |
| Simon Jester07-31-04, 03:33 PM | This is the character introduction my DM requested all us players write for our characters. I decided to write it as though my character was simply writing in a journal. Warblade, also known as Fuller, LN Warforged Fighter I am Warforged. I am a living weapon, a manufactured soldier crafted to fight a war that ended almost before I stepped out of the creation forge, for a nation that had ceased to exist before I first looked upon the world. I was meant for front-line combat, the workface of battle, and my design reflects this purpose to perfection. I am ubstantially larger that the average human warrior, but not so large that I cannot easily make use of human weapons and tools. The armoring which protects my body is fashioned from adamantine, to better withstand the fury of battle, and is shaped and placed to not only protect against enemy weapons but to intimidate those who would stand against me. This slows me as would the best of human armor slow the warrior that wore it, but it is a part of me and I have been designed to make full use of it while limiting the few disadvantages it incurs. Unlike a human fighter, I need never do without its protection as it forms an integral part of my body. The wood and stone components which make up the rest of my construction are similarly fashioned to serve more than one purpose, granting me abilities for which I have been suitably designed to make use while limiting any disadvantages they bring. My equipment, weapons, and other possessions are not of the most fashionable manufacture, but are as workmanlike and solidly constructed as I myself. I carry three weapons, being a good warblade of Breland make, a nondescript but solid heavy mace, and a heavy crossbow purchased from a reputable Zilargo arms merchant. The crossbow's design seems a little odd when compared to others of it's type, but it fits well in my hand. This does not seem to give me any benefit other than comfort, but it is these minor things which make life pleasurable. I also carry a spiked chain, a trophy of my first victory in battle. I am not proficient in its use; I wear it as the bandoleer-hanger for my warblade's scabbard, across my back. I frequently make use of a shield, and the one I possess is made of good steel, proportioned to my size. I recognize that it is common for human warriors to blazon their shields with designs intended to identify their allegiances or to terrify their opponents, but I do not share this need. My allegiances are mine alone to know, and my appearance is often intimidation enough. I have no need of clothing, having none of the self-consciousness of body that afflicts so many of the other races, but I do possess a large waterproofed cloak to keep my less durable possessions dry and whole. My backpack is waxed to withstand moisture short of complete immersion, and the various pouches I wear about my belt are similarly treated. At present, my other possessions are few, since my wages from House Cannith are largely kept from me in the vaults of House Kundarak's headquarters in the Mror Holds. This shall soon change. The arms smiths of House Cannith created me, and the Kingdom of Cyre paid them well to do so, but I owe my existence to the gnomish mediators of House Sivis and their obsessive need to see fulfilled any contract signed under their aegis. The kingdom of Cyre had died within days of signing the paper which led to my creation, but not before paying House Cannith the amount the House Sivis mediators had agreed upon. The confusion and horror accompanying the disaster which turned Cyre into the Mournlands almost allowed House Cannith to ignore their part of contract, there being no one left to take possession of us should we be built. Nevertheless, House Sivis required that the contract be completed as originally agreed even though a year had passed while the two houses argued. It seems the destruction of an entire kingdom is not common enough to be included as a sufficient reason to void a contract. Whatever the circumstances surrounding the "birth" of I and my brethren, the mastersmiths of House Cannith did not stint in their efforts. I find this gratifying, incredibly amusing, and a wonderful insight into the working of Khorvaire society. The remnants of the Cyran royal house sought refuge in Breland, and was granted it quite readily. This refuge, however, did not extend to maintaining an armed force of any great size while within the boundaries of their sheltering benefactor. The new Cyran king, being in more need of funds than of fighters while in his exile, sold my brethren and I back to House Cannith for substantially less than his former nation had paid to have us made. Many of my brothers had been sold to other warring factions before the Treaty of Thronehold turned us from property into citizens with rights and privileges previously reserved only for our owners. In many places, our new status led only to a change in terminology: rather than warforged being pieces of equipment destined to fight until our destruction, we became indentured to serve those who owned our contracts until they were paid off or until we died. I was luckier than most. I was in Breland, in Sharn, when news of the treaty spread, and was immediately recognized as a living person by the local constabulary. My former owners of House Cannith were far from pleased by this, and the looks on their faces as they contemplated what this meant for their future livelihoods is a sight I shall long remember. It was agreed, with a minor functionary from House Sivis looking on, that I was to remain in House Cannith's employ for a period of two years to repay them for purchasing me from the Cyran nation-in-exile. During this time I was to receive a moderate wage in addition to the amount repaying my indenture, but it had not been specified how this was to be handled. Now the last days of my contract rapidly approach and most of my wages are held in the Mror Hold vaults of House Kundarak, far out of my reach. During my service with House Cannith I have been employed primarily as a bodyguard for the House's younger Markbearers, hopefully keeping them from suffering too harshly the consequences of their frequently ill-conceived actions. Such is my duty now. As a personal aside, I am constantly amazed at the apparent lack of any sort of self-preservation instinct evidenced by the young of the other sentient races, especially the humans. It makes one wonder how they have survived as a species, let alone become the dominant humanoid race. ------------------------- Simon Jester  |
| EvilMasterOfEvilDice08-02-04, 03:11 AM | Saurenda: Holy :censored:. what part of my character's backstory DIDNT you tear to shreds? (now, i'm only 14, and i did not understand what my DM meant by 'corny'. now i do.) don't get up me too far, i have always played good characters or neutral characters who are just like 'whatever'. this is the first character to really have something to hate other than evil. also, he is my first ranger character. also, he is my first character. you dont have to get so hyped up over the workings of a teenager ferchrisssakes. cool down, dude. seriously. Simon Jester: WOW. that's the definite backstory of the week. |
| EvilMasterOfEvilDice08-02-04, 03:24 AM | i created the character N'ashalan for one amusing event: 15th level ranger (type-kill all humans) 5th level were-touched PrC <i don't own the eberron book, i just read over it for a few minutes while preparing a character for an Exalted game.> go to sharn on a night of a full moon.... hehe (i'm really not sure that this is possible, i didnt read up on whether they gain full lycanthropy. i hope they do:ayyyy!: ) N'ashalan would die if this happened, but i have only ever had i charaacter that lasted for more than one session. and it would be great fun, and proof (to show the older gamers that i play with) that i am capable of playing a dark, brutal game. |
| Saurenda08-02-04, 12:33 PM | You'll have to forgive me. If I had been the gm I'd in no way allow that. I was only going off of my own instinicts, and it seemed that you weren't giving your character a long term plan. It is your character and if your Dm thinks it will be alright to play, so be it. I'm not here to judge any of you, only trying to help and get you to realize what you were doing. You obviously know what your doing, I only hope the other players don't take you seriously. As per being true lycanthropes. As far as I have read in my ECS, they don't. They only gain the stats of such in hybrid form as WTM. If you don't want to create a character that last for more than one session, hey your choice. No need to go off on me with your only a young gamer routine. =D No one needs to defend thier own ideas like they are living things. If you couldn't handle what I said, well then, maybe you aren't doing what you really wanted to begin with. Such good ideas can't be so easily "torn apart". And who said I was tearing you apart? People with that mentallity should stay in FR, and leave Eberron to those who want to play for some level of fun. If your DM thinks I'm corny, that great :D I've only been playing for less than a year, and so far things are good. Haven't had one character death or killed on PC yet. Then agian I leave that fact up to gamers I play with who consider 2 mins of planing over rushing in head first. 23 years olds compared to 14 years olds, but then again age doesn't matter. I have no idea why you brought that up, it's poor defense for someone who doesn't even consider the other people in the game. Hey if the Gm wants to use you like that and keep you strung along so he takes some of the pressure off himself, who am I to say that's wrong? It is a game afterall. |
| EvilMasterOfEvilDice08-03-04, 03:35 AM | welll okay. i dont actually own the eberron book so i just went with whatever. you done yet? |
| The White Sorcerer08-03-04, 05:35 AM | Originally posted by EvilMasterOfEvilDice he has walked away from the murders of hundreds of people and for this no-one will voluntarily deal with him If those murders were committed by himself, then he isn't chaotic neutral. He's chaotic evil. |
| Saurenda08-03-04, 03:36 PM | Originally posted by The White Sorcerer If those murders were committed by himself, then he isn't chaotic neutral. He's chaotic evil. *Gives White Sorceror a cookie* Because if he was chaotic neutral it wouldn't be a matter of killing so many. One or two maybe be all right due to the gray areas of Eberron, but you know what they say. If you give a White Sorceror a cookie... =D |
| EvilMasterOfEvilDice08-04-04, 04:47 AM | okay, so i did not explain correctly. N'ashalan , instead of murdering people, just lets them die when they need him the most. PS. white sorceror: are you following me AND TRYING TO MAKE ME LOSE MY NUT? it is really frustrating having you follow me around and annoying me every single chance you get! so back off! |
| Wizardman08-04-04, 06:09 AM | Eredri Laelithar (d'Phiarlan), NG male (Aereni) elf wizard/Heir of Siberys. I never meant to become an adventurer. I never meant for a lot of things, really, but I never meant to become an adventurer most of all. I was born in Shae Cairdal, and lived there most of my life. I was raised by my mother, a former adventurer who inducted me into the family business, wizardry (I was told that my father had died on Khorvaire, and his body couldn't be recovered- I don't know how I could have believed that). It was in my training that I also developed a keen love for knowledge and for knowing things. People used to joke that I'd develop a Dragonmark and have to be taken to the Cairdal Blades. I used to laugh at that. Eventually, I became an adult, and by that time I was bitten by wanderlust. I always wanted to see Sharn, to spend time with the scholars of Morgrave University, so I said goodbye to my family and set out. Well, in my first day in Sharn, I became lost and was walking along a skybridge when I- and those nearest me- came across a dead body and a crazed female Warforged, a servant of the Lord of Blades. We drove her off, but the Watch came and the lot of us wound up in a holding cell. I could have gotten out of the whole damned mess shortly after we were all released, but a cloaked man offered to provide an explanation for what had taken place, and my curiosity got the better of me. That was my point of no return. I've alternately been blessing and cursing that moment ever since. In my adventures, I discovered something very upsetting: I have an uncanny resemblance to a number of members of House Phiarlan and Thuranni. I've lost count of the times somebody had mistaken me for a member of one or the other- and then there was the time I was blackmailed into becoming a decoy for a young Phiarlan, but I don't want to talk about that. I only learned the cause of this resemblance recently, when I manifested the Siberys Mark of Shadow. My father is not dead- he is a member of House Phiarlan whom my mother had a torrid relationship with until he was betrothed to another of the House. He left my mother, but left her with a surprise- myself. My great-grandmother (an Undying Counselor) divined that I might develop a dragonmark, so my father was never told about me. After all, if he didn't have the courage to tell his family to stow it, he didn't have the right to know about me, or so Great-Grandmother says. I never did develop the dragonmark, so I was kept ignorant of my heritage- until I developed the Siberys Mark. I have since become known for what I am to both Phiarlan and Thuranni. Both want me to serve them. I have declined both of their offers, which means I take my life in my hands whenever I leave Shae Cairdal, which I frequently must. I am building a relationship with my father and my half brothers and sisters, I have committments to my comrades- my friends- and I've become very fond of the adventuring life. I never meant to become an adventurer... |
| WizO_Sith08-04-04, 10:03 AM | Let's keep the critiscism constructive, shall we? |
