Character Idea - Thoughts Wanted [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-17-04, 12:14 PM I want to use the "gray alignments" but I want to play a good character of an evil religon. This is what I have come up with so far.

Taklinn Ungart, was rasied in the mountains of Mror Hold, but from his early thirties he has felt a draw to the depths of Kyber. After exploring these depts for years he met a Beholder, by the name XxorTixfd, X as Taklinn calls him spoke with Taklinn for days about humaniod kind. XxorTixfd was so happy to have some one to talk to about his observations that he invited Taklinn back serveral times. Taklinn learn many things from XxorTixfd, including the ways of Kyber, eventualy Taklinn's relasionship with X was discovered by the people of his town and he was run out of town and away from the Mror holds. On his way to the Shadow Marches Taklinn stopped in Sharn and made contact with the Cult of the Dragon Below. He was not impressed with there evil ways and decided that he needed to stay in Sharn and bring this abomination of a church to its knees.

10-17-04, 02:26 PM I don't understand what does it means that he is a good cleric of the dragon below. Exactly what are his beliefs?

What, exactly, are his religious beliefs? Several of the spells from both his domains contain evil spells. Eberron's grey alignment allows him to take those domains, but I was wondering why he did? Will he cast those spells, and how will he justify them? Does he channel positive or negative energy (I'm leaning towards negative)?

Perhaps he is planning on creating his own cult. That would be interesting. A bunch of dwarves claiming that Khyber can be a force for good. Heh.

You have Heroic Spirit, so any of the AP-based feats would make a good choice. You won't qualify for Action Surge in time, but Action Boost is nice with that many points.

As for a prestige class, Extreme Explorer takes advantage of the AP character build. Might be a good idea if you're character spends a lot of time in Khyber.

Loremaster is an often overlooked class, if you go strong with the magic. I created a variant secretive sect of loremasters in a different game, and it worked well. Combine the concept of madness and dark secrets to it and explain the abilities that way.

Thaumaturgist is something that I planned on combining with the Cult of the Dragon Below, seeing as their domain strengthens summoning to begin with. I'd allow a player to trade the 2nd level free feat with Greater Spell Focus (conjuration). Makes a great BBEG, but if you like the idea of summoning, then its a good way to go.

10-17-04, 03:19 PM Taklinn belives that the treats from below are misunderstood training tools for humanity. He also belives that these creatures are not always evil and that it is the fault of surface (and near surface dwellers) that there are conflicts with the creatures of the deep.
Taklinn also sees these creatures as being neutral instead of evil. He knows that there is great knowledge to be gotten from these creatures.

1) Creatures from underground not always evil.
2) Cult of the Dragon Below is causing relations nightmares between adventures and peaceful (misunderstood) sons and daughters of Kyber.
3) Evil spells can be used in good situation, sparingly.

10-17-04, 09:45 PM I think its easier with one of the dark six, myself, as you can be a good guy making excuses for your god like a beaten wife, consistently giving them a second, third, fourth chance to become good again.

"I...I know he does bad things, but he's just misunderstood, you don't understand. He's really a good god most of the time."

"Then how did you get those ritual scars all over your body?"

"I...um...I walked into a pair of scissors by accident. Please don't tell anyone!"

10-17-04, 10:31 PM This is actually quite viable. Taklinn and his mentor XxorTixfd could have pick up on a peace of the relationship between the Three Dragons (which not many would know about). He could be trying to heal the rift between the children of the Dragon Below and the children of ether Eberron or the Dragon Above. This would be a Good goal but done on behalf for an evil deity.

How could he explain his mission to others who don't really understand the creation relationship between the Three Dragons. This could also be a part of the Prophecy ;) which XxorTixfd originally found and base his modified view of the Dragon Below on. Remember that parts of it are scattered though out the underdark.

This realm is cursed. The people, once united in a great civilization, have taken up arms against one another. For more than a century brother fought brother, sister battled sister, until at last a peace was made.

Now, they do their fighting in the shadows instead of the light. And, while less die, the lives of countless are thrown into disarray without them even knowing the cause.

Truly, there is something amiss. These people cannot live properly. Strife and misery and all that awaits them as they eke out their lives, while they trust their lives to gods that don't answer prayers and rulers who exploit their people for themselves; keeping countless secrets from them, secrets so shocking they'd be instantly overthrown if they were made public.

Eberron and Siberys built a grand house to live in. But, now the time has come when the house has been so ravaged by termites that to kill the termites is not enough, but one must demolish the house and build again.

In the old past there was no strife, no pain, no deception: only order. Then that order was broken, and the world thrown into chaos and oppression. The liberators came, but they were sealed and oppressed like the caretakers of the ancient past.

It shall be as that no longer. Those who were sealed away will break from their oppression, release everyone from their misery, free them from pain, and bring paradise back to the world.

I shall make it happen. You, like the rest of the faithful, will make it happen. It is all for the best good.
