| JohnnyONeal11-10-04, 01:53 PM | On Friday, October 22 the Breland Ledger conducted the third in its ongoing series of online Q&A sessions with Eberron designers. This time we welcomed back Eberron creator Keith "Hellcow" Baker. Most questions centered around this month's Sharn: City of Towers and next year's Races of Eberron. (Note: Due to problems with our host, I wasn't able to post this on the Eberron Journal. While we're resolving those issues, I thought I'd go ahead and stick them here.) Read on for the complete chat log! It's split into an 2-part open chat and a 2-part moderated chat. |
| JohnnyONeal11-10-04, 01:56 PM | [20:06] <.KeithBaker> So any general questions while we wait for 9:30 to roll around? [20:06] <polt> yeah, do you have any high level npcs left in the bag for us? [20:06] <Joni-san> What is the key to happines? [20:06] <warok> this months dungeon mag said that you were writing an adventure for them, any special you gonna put into it? [20:06] <.KeithBaker> Good NPCs or bad guys, Polt? [20:06] <polt> Bad guys ):D [20:07] <.KeithBaker> Warok, do you mean Dungeon 117? [20:07] <.KeithBaker> There are always more bad guys, Polt. [20:07] <warok> uh yeah the one with the best 30 adventures [20:07] <.KeithBaker> You still haven't seen the Devourer of Dreams, for example. [20:07] <.KeithBaker> And Sharn has a few nasty folks. [20:07] <warok> sorry i don't have it on hand atm [20:07] <polt> Devourer of Dreams? Inspired? [20:07] <.KeithBaker> Ah, that's 116. [20:08] <.KeithBaker> Polt: Yes, the boss figure of the Dreaming Dark. [20:08] <polt> Nice [20:08] <pogo> What does it take to submit fiction that is Eberron based? [20:08] <.KeithBaker> Warok: The adventure is called Fallen Angel, and it's in the next issue. [20:08] <Hairy_irSpotted> anyone ever played the 'Discworld Noir' computer game? [20:08] <polt> What about good NPCs. I can't really remember any good aligned high level NPCs? [20:09] <.KeithBaker> Not I, Hairy. [20:09] <Hairy_irSpotted> shame. [20:09] <.KeithBaker> Pogo... I don't know. I'd go to the WotC site and check out the publishing area. [20:09] <pogo> thanks [20:09] <.KeithBaker> They just had an open call, but that's over now. [20:10] <.KeithBaker> Polt - Limited high level good NPCs is an aspect of the setting, so no, not many of those planned. [20:10] <.KeithBaker> Sharn has a 17th level commoner, in case you run into a cooking disaster. [20:10] <pogo> So what is next for Keith Baker [20:10] <warok> thats going in my sig [20:10] <polt> I know, and i love it (The limited high levels), good job .) [20:11] <.KeithBaker> Jaela is the highest level good NPC we've created so far, and if she leaves home she drops to 3rd. [20:11] <.KeithBaker> Pogo: Boise, Idaho! [20:11] <polt> Jaela? What page? [20:11] <pogo> Really whats over there [20:11] <.KeithBaker> I'm going to Oktobercon in Boise for Halloween weekend. [20:11] <pogo> ah Have fun [20:11] <.KeithBaker> I'll be doing some Eberron stuff and demoing Gloom, my new card game. [20:12] <pogo> cool [20:12] <.KeithBaker> Polt, page 228. [20:13] <pogo> I am actually running a game of Eberron for Pete Adkinson at Orecon. He's never played it and wants me to run your game. [20:13] <polt> I'll thing im going to copy paste all this, then BrooklynKnight can have it afterwards. [20:13] <.KeithBaker> That's great, Pogo! [20:13] <.KeithBaker> When and where is Orecon? [20:13] <pogo> Portland Or [20:13] <pogo> Nov [20:14] <.KeithBaker> Maybe I should try to show up. [20:14] <pogo> You coming? [20:14] <pogo> Sweet I will slay many.... I mean it will be a fun game [20:14] <polt> Regarding the upcomming Eberron video games, do you have anything to do with those? I mean, besides them using your setting. [20:14] <.KeithBaker> Giving that I'd never heard of it, I wasn't planning on it... but I'll check it out. [20:15] * Joni-san hears the winds whisper: NDA... [20:15] <pogo> huh? [20:15] <.KeithBaker> Polt: I worked with the Liquid folks on Dragonshard, the RTS. [20:16] <.KeithBaker> I was involved in a lot of the early discussions and wrote the backstory. [20:16] <polt> Okey, cool. [20:16] <.KeithBaker> I've gone out and visited Turbine and talked with them a bit, but I'm not closely involved with DDO. [20:16] <polt> Okey [20:17] <pogo> How much further do you envision Eberron evolving? [20:17] <polt> Because i've heard some rumors that the game, Dragonshard, would have a lot of differences from the setting, because Liquid started the development before the setting was finished. [20:17] <.KeithBaker> Let me come back to you, Pogo. [20:17] <pogo> ok [20:18] <.KeithBaker> When Liquid began work on Dragonshard, they didn't know that much about the setting -- which was one reason I was brought in. [20:18] <.KeithBaker> I helped them find ways to adapt their initial ideas to the world. [20:19] <.KeithBaker> With that said, the game is set in Xen'drik, and thus allows us to introduce things that haven't been seen before. [20:19] <polt> oh, cool. [20:19] <polt> Any word on who you get to play? [20:19] <warok> or what? [20:19] <+DeadSmurf> so both Dragonshard and D&D Online are taking place in Xen'drik? [20:20] <.KeithBaker> So there's a new race in there -- but they do have a place in the history of Eberron, and there's a good reason you haven't seen then before. [20:20] <.KeithBaker> DeadSmurf: Yes. Xen'drik is larger than Khorvaire -- [20:20] <polt> Okey, so its not a Dragonshard specific race? [20:20] <.KeithBaker> -- And Dragonshard takes place in one isolated area. [20:21] <.KeithBaker> The race in question was created for Dragonshard, but has a strong place in the existing backstory -- hopefully we'll get stats out for it in the future. [20:21] <.KeithBaker> Pogo -- when you say "how far", what do you mean? [20:21] <polt> Okey, cool. [20:22] <pogo> I meant do you see this world evolving like The realms or just keeping in the here and now frontier. What about your involvement? [20:23] <.KeithBaker> Answer to previous question - the race I was refering to are called the Umbragen. If you google that, you can find out what's already been said. [20:24] <polt> google it is [20:24] <.KeithBaker> Pogo: There's a lot of things I hope we get to cover for Eberron in the future. [20:25] <.KeithBaker> Xen'drik, Sarlona, the nations of Khorvaire, magic, religion, Dragonmark houses... [20:25] <.KeithBaker> There are a number of sourcebooks already in the works, and we'll see what else they have planned. [20:25] <Hairy_irSpotted> kewl, kewl, kewl [20:25] <.KeithBaker> With that said, there are no current plans for a metaplot -- we're not going to suddenly bomb Breland. [20:26] <pogo> Are you guys gonna pull a dragonlance where they cover several generations? [20:26] <polt> http://www.megagames.com/news/html/pc/atariannouncesnewdndrts.shtml <-- For those who want to read a little on Dragonshard [20:26] <.KeithBaker> Their is the looming threat of the war starting back up -- but if we going anywhere with that, I would expect it to be quite some time from now. Being on the edge offers lots of story hooks. [20:27] <pogo> cool [20:27] * Joins: Daelkyr (~larmorefam@*.slkc.qwest.net) [20:27] <.KeithBaker> Pogo: No plans for that right now, but I'd love to see a book about running games during the Last War. [20:27] <pogo> btw I love artificers, you are my hero, man [20:28] <.KeithBaker> As for my involvement, I'm a freelancer, but I've been able to work on a lot of the current projects and I'm in frequent contact with the design folks at WotC. [20:28] <.KeithBaker> So it's their world now, but they've been great about keeping me involved. [20:28] <.KeithBaker> Glad to hear it, Pogo. [20:28] <polt> Besides the Umbragen, are you saving some new races for later use? [20:29] <.KeithBaker> Well, Xen'drik, the Mournland, and Khyber all leave us with room to produce surprises. [20:29] <.KeithBaker> Or just twists on old things, like the shulassakar. [20:29] <polt> Yup, maybe in Races of Eberron? ;) [20:29] <polt> And now you say Mournland. Is there an explenation on what happend? [20:30] <.KeithBaker> Nope, Races of Eberron won't present any new races. [20:30] <Joni-san> KeithBaker: have you read Libris Mortis? [20:30] <.KeithBaker> We're already dealing with the four new races, which is one more than most of the "Races of" books... and we also need to briefly discuss the core races, goblinoids, etc. [20:31] <.KeithBaker> Joni-San - Nope, not yet. As soon as my budget allows. :) [20:31] * Joins: Talath (Talath@*.client.comcast.net) [20:31] <polt> Cool, so Races of Eberron is new info on excisting races? Will the Changelings and the Kalasthar get the attention they deserve? [20:31] <pogo> Do you you review the content of the Eberron Journal often? More specifically the class adaptations that are covered? [20:32] <pogo> Do you ever make comment on them? [20:32] <Daelkyr> Greetings Keith! Could you give us a heads up on the next few Dragonshards? [20:32] <.BrooklynKnight> ah, keith is an hour early [20:33] <.KeithBaker> Changelings, Kalashtar, Warforged, and Shifters are the focus of Races of Eberron, but there's a little bit on each of the core races, along with goblinoids and the Inspired. [20:33] <.KeithBaker> Hi BK! [20:33] <.KeithBaker> An hour? Oh, so I am. [20:33] <.KeithBaker> HM. In that case, maybe I should come back. [20:33] <Daelkyr> <BrooklynKnight> And that's why we love him, he gives so much. [20:33] * .BrooklynKnight just got back from what was supposed to be an Eberron game. [20:33] <.KeithBaker> I don't want the people who show up on time to miss out. [20:33] <.KeithBaker> What's your opinion, BK? [20:34] <.BrooklynKnight> Well, i'm gonna be buzy with something till 10 after 9 myself... [20:34] <.BrooklynKnight> and considering on the turnout i plan to moderate and start queing questions [20:34] <.BrooklynKnight> you dont have to go, but its cool to stay casual [20:34] <polt> Maybe one could just start logging? [20:35] <.KeithBaker> Re: the Journal - Johnny often sends me his conversions to review before he posts them, and I at least give my opinions. [20:35] <polt> i think people have more then enough questions for an ekstra hour anyway. [20:35] <.KeithBaker> So I don't read everything, but if he sends me an article, I at least look at it,. [20:35] <.KeithBaker> Daelkyr... [20:35] <polt> What about some of the other races in the MM, MM2, like the Sahugan (or whats its name). I really like the twist you did to some of the core monsters, in the ECS. [20:36] <.KeithBaker> It's tricky, because I don't know if an article will be accepted or not. [20:36] <.KeithBaker> I've written a few that have had to be held back because they clashed with sourcebooks that were in the works. [20:36] <.KeithBaker> So I've just finished a pair of articles on the Mror Dwarves -- [20:36] * Joins: Set (~CommadiE@195.175.58.*) [20:36] <.KeithBaker> -- but that doesn't mean you'll see them right away. [20:37] <.KeithBaker> Next week you get the conclusion of the Daughters of Sora Kell. [20:37] <polt> Cool, there isn't really much info about the Mror Holds. [20:37] * Joins: Alexius (~darkana9@*.ipt.aol.com) [20:37] <.KeithBaker> The sahuagin - and other seafaring races - are something I would like to look at in a dragonshard, at least. [20:38] <.KeithBaker> However, I don't plan on ever listing an official place for every creature in the MM. [20:38] <polt> of course not. [20:38] <.KeithBaker> Part of the point of places like Xen'drik, the Mournland, and Khyber are to give DMs the option to include creatures they like -- without forcing those on everyone else. [20:38] <.BrooklynKnight> ok folks, brb for a while, have fun with casual chat [20:39] <.KeithBaker> Take abeil... [20:39] <.KeithBaker> It doesn't make much sense to say "There are abeil in Breland", because they should have had an impact on things. [20:40] <.KeithBaker> If you just want to try them, your party can find a abeil city hidden away in Xen'drik. THE LOST CITY OF THE QUEEN BEE! [20:40] <polt> Cool, it was more if there was some major changes. Like with the Hags, they've changed a bit. [20:40] <.KeithBaker> If you LOOOVE abeil, well, you have issues. But that aside, you can say that they've sprung up in the Mournland and can quickly spread out and become a threat. [20:41] <polt> hehe [20:41] <.KeithBaker> Well, the Daughters of Sora Kell aren't your average hags. [20:41] <Set> slaps around a bit with a large trout [20:41] <.KeithBaker> That doesn't mean that there aren't lesser green hags lurking in swamps around Khorvaire. [20:41] <polt> okey [20:42] * Joins: Guest_025 (~Guest_025@*.atlaga.adelphia.net) [20:42] <polt> Who is Sora Kell? [20:42] <Alexius> Dead i hope [20:42] <Hairy_irSpotted> Granmommy of Hags? [20:42] <Daelkyr> A quick side note. Love the Fiction in the Dragonshards! Keep them in. [20:42] <+DeadSmurf> The three Hags that rule Droaam. [20:42] <.KeithBaker> Sora Kell is a powerful night hag. She's not dead, but no one has heard of her for a while. [20:42] * Quits: Set (~CommadiE@195.175.58.* ) [20:42] <.KeithBaker> She might be wandering the planes, or sleeping in the Demon Wastes. [20:42] <Hairy_irSpotted> sort of like Lilith, mother of succubi? [20:43] <.KeithBaker> Have you read the articles on the WotC website, Polt? [20:43] <Joni-san> I also vote for keeping the Fluff in future Dragonshards [20:43] <.KeithBaker> Thanks about the fiction vote, Daelkyr, JS. [20:43] <polt> KeithBaker, yeah, they were awesome. I voted for fictionn your thread. [20:44] <.KeithBaker> I'll be keeping things pretty much as they are -- some will have it (and may be two parters), others won't. [20:44] <pogo> What would you say is a good round number to place on the number of airships( legal or otherwise) in Khorvaire [20:44] <polt> The Daughters of Sora Kell are great NPCs, just amazing. [20:44] <.KeithBaker> Not a bad analogy, Hairy -- especially since the idea is that the Daughters all have different fathers (hence being different types of hags). [20:44] <Alexius> the fiction is nice gives a little feel [20:45] <.KeithBaker> The next dragonshard gives a little more infor on each of the daughters specifically (along with stats for Sora Maenya). [20:45] <.KeithBaker> Pogo: 20-30. [20:45] <.KeithBaker> Still not that many. [20:45] <pogo> what about lesser ships [20:46] <Alexius> Following along from the how many ships in khorvaire how common are they in non lyrander hands, [20:46] <polt> KeithBaker, any chance of an officiel Eberron DM screen? [20:46] <polt> there is a thread with some good suggestions on what to put on it. [20:47] * Quits: .KeithBaker (~onesmallkeith@*.ipt.aol.com ) (User has been mind-ripped ) [20:47] <polt> noooooooes [20:47] <pogo> Doh [20:47] <warok> :( [20:47] <warok> nice [20:48] <Hellcow> Sigh, bad connection. [20:48] <polt> and he's back [20:48] <pogo> ok [20:48] <polt> did you get my last question? [20:48] <Hellcow> Probably not. [20:48] <polt> KeithBaker, any chance of an officiel Eberron DM screen? [20:48] <polt> there is a thread with some good suggestions on what to put on it. [20:48] <polt> there :) [20:48] <Hellcow> I believe so. [20:48] <pogo> On airships, are lesser versions possible [20:49] <Hellcow> I've at least heard rumors of such a thing (DM screen)... but then again, I don't work at WotC. [20:49] <Hellcow> Pogo, you could certainly have a smaller airship. [20:49] <polt> Would be nice if you could slap them around a bit. The regular DM screen and the FR screen is almost the same. Would be nice if the eberron was a little different [20:49] <Hellcow> In Sharn, people use skycoaches, which are like rowboats -- but those only work in the manifest zone. [20:50] <pogo> and Alexius asked about the numbers outside of lyrander [20:50] <polt> with a map, some prices on airships and stuff like that. [20:50] <Hellcow> I'll take a look at the thread. [20:50] <polt> want a link? [20:50] <Daelkyr> no link! game designers are eaisly distracted [20:50] <Hellcow> Very few airships out of Lyrandar. It takes a lot to build an airship, and unless you're an heir, you can't fly it... [20:50] <Hellcow> ... though there are certainly rogue heirs. [20:51] <pogo> not at all? [20:51] <Hellcow> So maybe four outside of lyrandar, my guess. [20:51] <Hellcow> Well, you CAN fly it, it's just hard to do things like change direction. [20:51] <pogo> ah Isee [20:51] <Hellcow> Which can make docking a bit of a pain. [20:52] <pogo> Cool thanks [20:52] <Hellcow> Airships are still a fairly recent invention; they are still being integrated into the world. [20:52] <Hellcow> And Orien certainly isn't happy about them. [20:52] <pogo> They are the reason I started playing [20:52] <@Neko_Ali> hmmm... Orien/Lyrander arms race? [20:53] <Hellcow> It's certainly possible. Orien used to dominate land transport... [20:53] <@Neko_Ali> House mages raining fire on each other as they pass close? [20:53] <Hairy_irSpotted> What, one side uses trained attack gorillas, other side trumphs with Girallons? ;) [20:53] <Hellcow> But with the destruction of the rails through the Mournland, and the versatility of the airship, it's a concern. [20:53] <polt> Is there any chance of new marks appearing among the races? I'm thinking of making one or two myself and throwing them in the game. [20:54] <Hellcow> Airships do need docks, and there aren't that many of them... yet. But Orien is certainly concerned. [20:54] <pogo> Easier to blow up the Airships than the Lightning rail [20:55] <pogo> We hijacked one in our game [20:55] <pogo> airship[20:55] <Hellcow> At the moment we do not intend to produce new Eberron/Siberys dragonmarks. There's 13 of them, and that's part of the Prophecy. But if you want to make up more for use in your campaign, more power to you! [20:55] <Hellcow> I heard about someone doing that and then discovering the trouble steering after the fact. [20:55] <Alexius> i dont know nick a few conductor stones in hte wilderness and instant train wreck [20:56] <Hellcow> But again, the critical thing is having fun. [20:56] <pogo> We just forced the pilot to take us where we wanted now we are wanted [20:56] <Hellcow> That works. |
| JohnnyONeal11-10-04, 01:57 PM | [20:56] <polt> Where and when will there be more info on the Prophecy? Dragonshards? Races of E? [20:56] <pogo> never I am guessing [20:56] <Hellcow> Dragonshards is a possibility. [20:56] <polt> okey [20:56] <Daelkyr> Is the Dead Grey mist static or will it spread? [20:57] <Hellcow> We're not going to say "This is the Prophecy" -- but a dragonshard on how it can be used in the game makes a lot of sense. [20:57] <polt> indeed [20:57] <Hellcow> Daelkyr: We don't have plans to introduce a metaplot saying "It's spreading!" [20:57] <Hellcow> However, this has to be something people are worrying about... [20:58] <Daelkyr> Nice Dodge Feat [20:58] <Hellcow> ... And could be a great basis for an adventure. [20:58] <Daelkyr> Another, how would you go about having the kick-off of a campaign during the Last War [20:59] <polt> What about the Daelkyr? Anything about them in Races of Ebberon? Dragonshard or something? [20:59] <Alexius> tell them ready, roll initiative [20:59] <Daelkyr> LOL [20:59] <Hellcow> How far back? Do you want to run multiple adventures in the war, or is it a single flashback? [20:59] <Daelkyr> Hold on, I have to have my wife leave the room [20:59] <Hellcow> I think I may have discussed this in the Ask Keith thread on the WotC boards. [21:00] <Daelkyr> I was thinking first lvl, the day of mourning [21:00] <Hellcow> Nice, Alexius. [21:00] <polt> Uh, would be cool to make some kind of flashback adventure, whith the players suddenly back in the beginning of the war. [21:00] <Hellcow> Have you looked at the characters on my website? [21:00] <Daelkyr> stealing a little from your pregen's on BossytheCow [21:00] <Hellcow> There you go. [21:00] <pogo> can we expect more classes/prestige classes based on individual kingdoms [21:00] <Alexius> Death Knights of Karrnath! [21:01] <Daelkyr> Did the Livig Spells show up before the Mourning or after? [21:01] <Hellcow> I personally like running a single adventure right at the end of the war -- a critical battle -- [21:01] <Hellcow> So that your characters begin at 2nd level, having survived a horrible battle and having a shared experience. [21:02] <Hellcow> As well as possible enemies or allies from the battle (another soldier they thought was dead). [21:02] <Hellcow> Pogo... [21:02] <Hellcow> Possibly. [21:02] <pogo> cool [21:02] <Hellcow> Sharn has a Breland specific PrC. [21:02] <pogo> I see [21:02] <Hellcow> Living spells are believed to have been created by the Mourning -- [21:02] <Daelkyr> Perfect! [21:03] <Hellcow> But it's always possible Cannith was working on them before. [21:03] <polt> Will there ever be an explation on the day of mourning? [21:03] <Daelkyr> Please no! [21:03] <Hellcow> Not an official one... at least, that's the plan. [21:03] <@Neko_Ali> magic nuke! [21:03] <polt> Hellcow, okey. [21:03] <Hellcow> We want it to be something you get to decide for yourself. [21:03] <Alexius> Personally at some point i want to have an ooze master in Sharn with a brand new eldritch machine that makes living spells [21:03] <@Neko_Ali> at least, that's my theory :) [21:03] <Hellcow> I like it, Alexius. [21:04] <polt> Living spell as a familiar... [21:04] <Hairy_irSpotted> Ketih, are Flaws a good or bad thing, in your Exalted opinion? [21:04] <Hellcow> Polt - It's your oozy pal who's fun to be with! [21:04] <Joni-san> But what about including *multiple rumors* on possible causes for the Mourning [21:05] <Daelkyr> I think it'd be too official [21:05] <Hellcow> Hairy, I haven't actually played with them. I like them as a concept and want to look into coming up with Eberron-specific flaws, but I haven't checked them for play balance. [21:05] <Hellcow> Joni-San, we already have. :) [21:05] <Hellcow> After all, Shadows of the Last War suggests on possibility for the Mourning. [21:05] <Joni-san> Oh yeah... Lack 'o sleep bad... [21:05] <pogo> ojh ok [21:06] <Hellcow> But we're going to let you make the decision (or not). [21:06] <pogo> not yet [21:06] <Nightfall> Hi Keith!! Eberron rules!!! :D [21:06] <Hellcow> Not yet, Nightfall. Technically, it doesn't start for 24 minutes. [21:06] <Nightfall> Cool. [21:06] <Hellcow> Welcome! Good to see you! [21:06] * ValkynHighwind wonders how many burgers he can make out of a Hellcow [21:06] <polt> damn, this is going to get late. Its 3 am :P [21:06] <Nightfall> Same here. [21:06] <Hellcow> If people get out of hand, I'll just hide in a corner under a mod comes on. ;) [21:06] <Nightfall> Nah. [21:07] <Nightfall> I'll be good. I have a Sage rep to protect. [21:07] <Daelkyr> With what free lancers make, not much [21:07] <Nightfall> At least for Scarred Lands. ;) [21:07] <Hellcow> OK, so you late AM folks, ask your questions. [21:07] <Alexius> what would be a good way to break players out of the idea that certain things (like outsiders are either good or evil) i have some ideas but im wondering if you have any suggestions to break them out the mindset of traditional 3.5 [21:07] <Hairy_irSpotted> psionics question; do you prefer Wild Talent or Hidden Talent? [21:08] <Hellcow> Alexius... good question. The obvious answer is to have them be forced to rely on a good individual they would normally consider to be evil... but that's a pretty vague suggestion. [21:08] <Hellcow> Sounds like a good topic for a board thread. [21:09] <Nightfall> Just curious Keith, do you forsee any chance of maybe allowing some outside d20 material into an offical WotC/Eberron work? [21:09] * Stouthammer starts following the treaty of Thronehold, by looking at everyone else with suspicion and sending spies to determine what questions otherws will be asking. [21:09] <Joni-san> I don't think I'll be a problem, lack of sleep, hunger and the feeling of "Not 'gonna happen" from a... er... "friend will keep me from causing trouble. plus slow typing [21:09] <polt> Hellcow. You maybe don't know this, but what is the plan regarding books on regions and places? I udnerstand the Book of Sharn, since SHarn is a very complex city. But its pretty expensive if you have to go out and buy City of Wroat, City of Flamekeep and so forth. [21:09] * Nightfall just thinks that Beyond Countless Doorways and Eberron's cosmology has a LOT to compliment each other [21:09] <Hellcow> Hairy: I prefer kalashtar! Remind me how Hidden Talent works again? (DOn't have my book on hand) [21:09] <Falche_Marem> Hidden talent gives a nonpsionic 2 Power points and also letys him choose a first level power, Hellcoq [21:09] <Falche_Marem> *Hellcow [21:10] * Joins: Revenge_of_the_Takasi (~eberron@*.client.comcast.net) [21:10] <Falche_Marem> Hello All, [21:10] <Hellcow> Nightfall - I don't know. It's totally a WotC thing, and I don't know the issues. But hey, you can use whatever you want! [21:10] <polt> We need to get this mod'd soon, people are joining :) [21:10] * Revenge_of_the_Takasi is now known as Takasi [21:10] <Stouthammer> polt just my guess but I think they're going to go with a regional approach like the Forgotten Realms. It's just that Sharn is such an important city like Waterdeep is in the Realms (and Waterdeep gets its own book next year) [21:10] <Falche_Marem> so if Barm the first level fighter choose Hidden talent, he gets 2 PP, and one power of his choice from the Psion/Wilder list. [21:10] <Takasi> Greetings fellow Khorvairians! [21:10] <Nightfall> I know...I've already decided all out planeswar is enivetible.. [21:10] <ValkynHighwind> Where's Hidden Talent from? [21:10] <Falche_Marem> Expanded psionics handbook, Valk. [21:11] <Hellcow> Polt: Beyond Sharn, I think it would be more likely to see "Region" books (Xen'drik, Five Nations, Sarlona) than "City" books. [21:11] <ValkynHighwind> Falche_Marem: K. Thanks. [21:11] <Nightfall> Okay another question Keith, will you be doing any non-Eberron stuff for WotC? Or any other company? Or do they have locked up under heavy guard? [21:11] * Nightfall enjoyed your work in the En Route series... [21:11] <.BrooklynKnight> ok folks [21:11] <polt> Okey. So "Civilised Khovaire" "Savage Khovaire" "Beyond Khovaire" or something like that? [21:11] * Takasi is looking forward to a "Planes of Eberron" book... [21:11] <.BrooklynKnight> I'm gonna start taking questions for the chat [21:11] <polt> BrooklynKnighto, thank god :D [21:11] <.BrooklynKnight> to add to the que [21:11] <Hellcow> Falche_Marem, Hairy - Hidden Talent certainly seems more powerful; I think it's more a question of the level of power you want in your game. [21:12] <Nightfall> Noooo!!! [21:12] * Nightfall pouts [21:12] <Garen> Here it comes: the moderation. [21:12] <Stouthammer> shuddup nightfall. It's spam like that that's more likely to make the room moderated. [21:12] <.BrooklynKnight> So, start sending me questions in msg and i'll add them to the que [21:12] <.BrooklynKnight> room will not be moderated till 9:30 [21:12] <@Hellcow> To finish what's already been asked... [21:12] <.BrooklynKnight> so continue with casual conversation [21:13] <@Hellcow> Nightfall, I don't have plans to do non-Eberron work for WotC at the moment, though I'm not against it. [21:13] <@Hellcow> I do have some projects I'm working on for other companies. [21:13] <Daelkyr> Hellcow, how do you handle US plaguing you with board questions and chats like this? [21:13] <Stouthammer> Hellcow, do you have a lot of involvement with the video games in terms of story and new elements and direction? Any veto power or are the computer games pretty much outside your control? [21:13] <@Hellcow> There's a Green Ronin book that will come out middle of next year sometime... and hey, my card game Gloom comes out in a few weeks! [21:14] <Nightfall> Mm GR... [21:14] * Parts: ValkynHighwind (ValkynHighwind@*.twcny.rr.com) [21:14] * Nightfall wonders which 2005 release that is... [21:14] * Nightfall goes to check... [21:14] <polt> what kind of card game? [21:14] <@Hellcow> Daelkyr, I just wish I had more time to chat and answer questions. I love talking about the setting -- I just need to make sure I actually do some paying work as well, so Honeycakes and I don't starve and die. [21:15] <pogo> night Keith, thanks for the answers [21:15] <@Hellcow> Polt: It's called Gloom. It's a non collectible game about tragic death. [21:15] <Daelkyr> Well, in that case, could you email me your notes incase you do? [21:15] <@Hellcow> Bye Pogo! [21:15] <Daelkyr> I promise I'll keep up the legacy. [21:16] <Nightfall> Can I get your computer then Keith? ;0 [21:16] <@Hellcow> Gloom: http://www.atlas-games.com/product_tables/AG1250.html [21:16] <Nightfall> Or at least an inkwell? [21:16] <@Hellcow> Stouthammer... [21:16] <polt> Anyone tried the Steve Jackson card game Munchkin? [21:16] <polt> Cause that card game is just awesome :D [21:17] <@Hellcow> I have no veto power about anything right now. WOTC does, though, and they keep a close eye on the computer games. [21:17] <@Hellcow> With that said... [21:17] <@Hellcow> I did do a lot of work with the Dragonshard folks... [21:17] <+DeadSmurf> ooh the transparent card idea for gloom is cool. [21:17] <@Hellcow> ... and wrote the first draft of the story bible. [21:17] * Nightfall wants the new D&D games...especially Dragonshard... [21:17] <polt> im sorry to say, but i don't think DDO looks that great. [21:17] <@Hellcow> Thanks, Deadsmurf! [21:18] * Takasi is now known as Armek [21:18] <@Hellcow> I'm not closely tied to DDO, so I can't say much about it. [21:19] <Joni-san> Keith, What can you tell us about the Sharn sourcebook? What is your favourite part? [21:19] <polt> I would like to see the guys behind Knights Of the Old Republic, make an RPG over Eberron. [21:19] <Hairy_irSpotted> gloom sounds great (and I loved the add in Drag Mag), but what I really can't wait for (asides from the Sharn sourcebook), is Cthulhu 500, Mythos Motor Sports Madness. [21:19] <@Hellcow> Fallen Angel comes out in Dungeon 117 -- if I recall correctly, that's a 4th-level adventure. [21:19] <Stouthammer> There was one thing that kind of bugged me about it, but it's sort of a spoiler issue, and I doubt you'd be much better off for answering it since you didn't write the module. (Very minor spoiler however) [21:19] <Nightfall> Polt, it's never going to happen. Bioware is done working for WotC. [21:19] <Nightfall> Sad but true. [21:19] <@Hellcow> It's out, Hairy. I've played it. Lots of fun. [21:20] <@Hellcow> Indeed, Stouthammer -- not my module, so I probably couldn't say. [21:20] <polt> Nightfall, i know, but the guys who are making KOTOR 2 then, thats not bioware. [21:20] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> keep the questions coming folks [21:20] <Hairy_irSpotted> Well, it might be a while before we get to see it in Europe, Keith. [21:21] <@Hellcow> Ah, well. [21:21] <polt> Gloom? Yeah, unless it get real popular fast, then it'll tkae a while. [21:21] <Hairy_irSpotted> but I asked and discussed about it at my FLGS, so I'm not worried :) [21:22] <@Hellcow> Since the chat begins officially in 9 minutes, I'm going to take a short break & gather some food & drink. [21:22] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> Is Honeycakes coming? [21:22] <@Hellcow> She's out, but she'll log on when she gets home. [21:23] <Hairy_irSpotted> poor polt. I'm actually feeling better than I did an hour ago, at the start of the chat. [21:23] <Daelkyr> Well, I've got flesh to shape and a adventure to write. Computer games take a long time! [21:35] <@Hellcow> GA [21:36] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> <Takasi> Can you provide any details on "Reflections of the Multiverse" for Mark of Heroes? Will you be at Winter Fantasy running any of the adventures? [21:39] <@Hellcow> I don't know yet, but I'd hope so. I was at Winter Fantasy last year before Eberron was even out, and I just got back from Spring Revel. It seems like it would make a lot of sense for me to be at Winter Fantasy to help with mark of Heroes. [21:39] <@Hellcow> But I suspect they just haven't planned that part out yet. [21:39] <@Hellcow> So, I hope so. -Done- [21:39] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> Yes, I remember. [21:39] <@Hellcow> And you even got to play Gloom! [21:40] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> For anyone who attends Winter Fantasy, chances are I'll be there Running Mark of Heroes myself. Look me up and I'll DM for you! Now for the next question.. [21:40] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> <polt> What is your guess on the way WOtC are going to do with the Eberron region books? "Civilised Khovaire" "Savage Khovaire" "Beyond Khovaire" or something like that? [21:41] <@Hellcow> Looking to "Beyond Khorvaire", I would expect to see a book on Xen'drik and a book on Sarlona at some point in the future. [21:41] <@Hellcow> In the case of Xen'drik, I'd expect it to be a sourcebook providing lots of things you could use when running adventures in Xen'drik, as opposed to "here are concrete maps of Xen'drik", as Xen'drik is intentionally supposed to be a playground for the DM. [21:42] <@Hellcow> Sarlona I'd expect to be a little more structured, with a lot of information about the Inspired, the Quori, and psionics in Eberron. [21:42] <@Hellcow> As for within Khorvaire, my guess would be breaking it into chunks, sort of like the FR books. [21:42] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> Any truth to the rumored "Five Nations" book? [21:43] <@Hellcow> Not for me to say -- but that would be exactly the sort of regional division I'd expect to see. "Here's a big chunk of Khorvaire." [21:43] <@Hellcow> -done- [21:43] * Gaerfinde is now known as Gaerfindel [21:44] <@Hellcow> I was wondering why you were missing your "L", Gaerfindel. ;) [21:44] * Parts: avistel (avistel@*.toya.net.pl) (Leaving ) [21:44] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> <Falche_Marem> Que question: Hellcow, You've said that the Races of Eberron book will have a PrC for changelings that start to specilize in their Doppleganger heritage moreso then a normal changeling, and a Warforged that delves into the living aspect of his Living side, will we see a Kalashtar PrC that allows his Quori spirit to gain more power other then a small part of the Kalashtar's soul? [21:45] <@Hellcow> There are kalashtar prestige classes, and one of those classes does involve the kalashtar gaining a deeper bond to his quori spirit. [21:46] <@Hellcow> However, the quori always exists in multiple kalashtar; you never have the quori directly controlling an individual kalashtar, as the Inspired do. Especially can we expect to see any events in adventures or novels that affect the campaign setting as a whole? (such as invasions, battles, major deaths...) [21:47] <@Hellcow> To a large degree this is up to WotC. However, there are no plans for a major metaplot at this time. For example, the Dark Sun novels completely changing the setting. [21:47] <@Hellcow> So a novel isn't going to provide the answer to the Mourning. [21:47] <@Hellcow> In my opinion... [21:48] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> done? [21:48] <@Hellcow> ... A story doesn't have to change the world to be a good story. Aside from the fact that mystery and intrigue can be great on small scales, you can have characters deal with threats that COULD change the world, if they are not dealt with. I'll note that this is addressed somewhat in the Sharn sourcebook, and I believe I've discussed it on the WotC Ask Keith thread. [22:10] <@Hellcow> The Blood of Vol is based on the necromantic traditions of the Line of Vol. These traditions predate Erandis d'Vol by over ten thousand years. [22:11] <@Hellcow> So they believe in the sacred role of the undead. | JohnnyONeal11-10-04, 02:01 PM | [22:28] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> <Alexius> Creation forges, there are lots of things said about them can you give some basic description of how they function, im not asking for stats and costs but an example of how they worked in terms of production (warforged) and mass production (magic items, mundane items) what kind of benefits and problems are associated (are they quicker and cheaper, or hard to maintain?) [22:29] <@Hellcow> Hmm. [22:29] <@Hellcow> Well, to begin with, to use a creation forge, you need to have schemas and the Mark of Making. You might say "Then how is the Lord of Blades using one?" and that is the big question. [22:30] <@Hellcow> The main rule about creation forges is that they let you break the rules. They would let you produce things that could not otherwise be produced, like warforged. [22:31] <@Hellcow> And yes, they would allow these things to be produced quickly and cheaply, sort of like the magic forges from Races of Stone. [22:31] <@Hellcow> But again, you'd need the proper schema to use it. [22:31] <@Hellcow> So each "type" of warforged would have had a schema; using that and certain raw materials, you produced warforged. [22:32] <@Hellcow> Not much of an answer, but I'm going to leave it there for now. Certainly, they are the reason Cannith could produce warforged economically. The missing/dead leader of House Cannith. Why? who knows. [22:33] <@Hellcow> And maybe you're right. ;) [22:34] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> Perhaps the Schema in the adventures is the "map" to building the special greenscout warforged. WotC wanted to see more new races, and the idea of some sort of construct or half-construct race came up as something that fit the flavor of the world; I played around with that and the warforged (and shifters) appeared in the 100-pager. But now, I haven't had time to really read it all through. I spend all my free time posting on message boards! [23:24] <@Hellcow> -done- [23:24] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> <Armek> The concept of racial feats for differentiating sub-races is intriguing. Will we see variations on dwarves, elves, halflings, etc with similarities to FR in RoE? [23:25] <@Hellcow> Hmm. Explain "differentiating subraces", Armek. [23:25] * Joins: peregrine (~me@*.client.comcast.net) [23:25] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> Subracser [23:25] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> err [23:25] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> bleh [23:25] <@Hellcow> There are racial feats in RoE. [23:25] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> I think he means [23:25] <@Armek> Will we see "Sun Elves" or "Dark Dwarves" etc [23:25] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> Sun Elves, Moon Elves [23:25] <@Armek> through racial feats [23:25] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> etc [23:25] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> ohhhh [23:25] <@Armek> jinx [23:26] <@Hellcow> Not so much. [23:26] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> not actual races, but feats that change the races [23:26] * Parts: GauHelldragon (~rawr@69.224.68.*) [23:26] <@Armek> exactly Brueklen [23:26] <@Hellcow> There are racial feats that help differentiate the Valenar from the Aereni -- but you won't see different ability scores. [23:26] * Quits: Bynw (Bynw@*.client.mchsi.com ) (Quit: Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati ) [23:26] <@Hellcow> The core abilities of the race remain the same -- but there are feats that emphasize the cultural differences. [23:27] <@Hellcow> -done- [23:28] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> Well that brings an end to our questions tonight Keith. Thanks for coming. I'll be demoderating the room in a moment and you can all continue informal chat if you so desire. The chatlog of this chat (and perhaps the open chat before it) will all be posted at the Breland Ledger in a few days! Thanks for coming. And remember, this chatroom is here 24/7! [23:28] <.Brueklen_d`Cannith> See you next month for a chat on Sharn: City of Towers! [23:28] <@Hellcow> Well, I was only chatting for 3 1/2 hours. [23:28] <@Hellcow> Keep an eye out for Sharn, Gloom, and Fallen Angel (in Dungeon 117)! [23:28] <Hellcow> Oh, and check out www.BossytheCow.com |
