Since the search option seems to be disabled, I'm asking you fellow boarders for help.

I'm looking for information on the druidic sect - Child of Winter.

I will play one soon and i'm in the process of creating the background for my first Eberron character. So i need all the help I can get.

Just post the info you have or post links from previous threads here. That would help me a lot.

From an FR (ex-?)fan who just discovered the joy that is Eberron !!

Thanks a lot !! :D

(If your interested, I could post the stats of my character here...)

Everything, anything...

Specifically, is it mostly an evil sect ? Are they agent of chaos: Do they try spreading the plague and diseases ?

In a group, is the Children of winter against magically healing other group members because it goes against the natural order of things ?

In other words do the sect see themselves as supreme Survivalist - Darwinist ? "If you don't survive on your own, you should as well be dead" kind of thing. Strongest against the weakest ?

How do they perceive the weak ? Do they try to eliminate them ?

What is the ritual to become a Child of Winter ? Is it a secret sect ? What is their relation with other druid sect ?

Where they live ? How many are they ? Well you know that kind of thing !! :)

Yeah, based on the descriptions I've read the Children of Winter try to spread death, plague and cold across Khorvaire to "cleanse" the land. I doubt they'd heal anyone but themselves to further their own goals. I doubt any are good-based alignment, but hate making alignment generalizations. They just don't seek to preserve any life. In fact, they seem to want to spread only death. They probably act better as an NPC, especially if your party has good intentions and plans to help others, where your PC would only seek to watch another soul perish.

(Since I'm at Winter Fantasy, this seemed like a good topic to reply to...)

The Children of Winter are often misunderstood. In a sense, they are extreme Darwinists. They believe that nature goes through cycles, and that death is part of that cycle. They believe that a great cataclysm is coming - a figurative winter that will cleanse the land to be reborn anew. So the wheat is separated from the chaff.

So they spread disease and such because that's nature's way of dealing with the weak, not because they actually worship death or anything like that. In particular, many believe that the Mourning is the first sign of the cataclysm, so they are taking a more active role in bringing it on. If you want to play an evil CoW, that's your angle: the end of the world is nigh. For a neutral CoW, you could take the approach that the Mourning is a false sign - that the end of the world will come, but it is not time (and seek to gather the proof to convince the others).

.. Oh the delicious Irony..

HellCow's at Winter Fantasy. We're discussing the Children of Winter druidic sect.. who's innitials are also CoW..

Coincedence? Clever planning? Are the children of winter secretly taking orders from an awakened bovine with the half-feindish template?

Or is this just the case of an Ebberon fan with too much time on his hands thinking too much into simple circumstance?
Is Ebberon even ready to know the REAL answer? :D

Thanks a lot Mr.Cow...errr I mean Keith. Hope all goes well for you and Eberron at Winter fantasy.

Actually I'm going for the "closed sect" angle. My character was taking at birth by Children of winter and was teached in the way, philosophy of the sect.

My character (Human Barbarian 1 / Druid 1 but will continue on the druid path) later discovered by luck that he was abucted (they killed my real parent to obtain me) by a malign extremist sect member to train me (brainwash me) in becoming an agent of destruction (by spreading the plague or other illness).

Lost and doubting the real goal of the sect, he leaves the sect to roam the world and to seek his own answers to his ever growing questions. He still live by the code he was taught but now question every aspect of it. Neither good nor evil, he's simply looking for his own way. And maybe someday he'll come back and confront the sect and their belief...

I think it will make a fun character to play with. I'm just not entirely sure how he will react to the real world and his companion... For that Ireally need to flesh out what he was taught...

(sorry for my english...second language.)
