It has a strong religious tradition, as well as having the Crown Knights, a knightly order that has some wonderful roleplaying-opportunities. Even though it is a theocracy, I have portrayed Thrane as having a strong feudal outlook in my campaign, and combined with a zealous belief in the White Flame that would make a very good basis for a knight. Thematically, I don't believe a knight fits as well in Sharn, but he could be in the service of the royal guard, and maybe be the third son of a land-owning noble or something. One of my players currently plays the paladin Benjamin ir'Auxylgard. His father Gregan ir'Auxylgard commands the fortress of Auxylgard, but Benjamin, being the second son, was at an early age sent into the army to learn warfare, and then joined the Crown Knights at the age of 18. He is currently involved in a power struggle between Otherro of the Crown Knights and Cardinal Krozen. |

I'm going on the interpretation that the knightly orders are the products of an age that no longer exists; with the Last War came the end of the true age of chivalry. It may yet take a little while to fully die in places where the feudal tradition is still entrenched, like Thrane or Karrnath, but the world that spawned it has changed too much. |
