Amazon says this new supplement will be released on February 19. (http://www.amazon.com/Stormreach-Eberron-Supplement-Keith-Baker/dp/0786948035/ref=sr_1_2/102-7700123-8959307?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1179963654&sr=1-2)

So, Keith, is this the latest Top-Secret Eberron Project, then? :)

Um...Stormreach?

We already got Secrets of Xen'drik...not that that's the same as a Stormreach book, but...what about...I dunno...the Mror Holds...Talenta Plains...Zilargo...

This strikes me as a very niche book in a setting that could use a lot more filling in. I don't recall anyone asking for a book specifically about Stormreach. Confusion mounting.

Maybe this is another novel (like City of Towers).

But if it's a rulebook, DANGIT. Keith, you could have put this out faster, I am going to be sending my PCs to Stormreach soon. :|

They are probably making it because it seems (to me) that it falls in the same vein as the Sharn book. The only problem is that Stormreach is litterally a 1/20th the size (population wise) of Sharn and size wise it is even smaller.

Maybe it is an attempt to cash in on the DDO crowd?

IF they did the Plains, they could lump Valenar in there with it.

If we're doing specific locations, dangit I say the Demon Wastes.

But anyways, specific singular locations is lame. The two books I want out of Eberron is:

Villains of Eberon (less on the Daelkyr; they get so much press as it is).
Intrigue of Eberron or whatever. Or possibly just a more neutral "Heros of Intrigue".

I would'nt mind them making a Mournland book. like they have region-type books for Forgotten Realms.

I'd really like that, a book for various parts of Khorvaire (north, east, south, west)

West: Eldeen Reaches, Shadow Marches, Droam, and The Demon Wastes
South: Valenar, Zilargo, Breland, and Darguun
East: Mror Holds, Q'barra, Talenta Plains, Mournland
North: Karrnath, Aundair, and Thrane

Each book would cover each area and have lists of towns, monsters in those parts, small orginizations, laws, imortant NPCs, etc....

Probably a fairly easy "City of" book for them to write, as mentioned because of DDO, there are established NPCs, locations, and such already written and fleshed out. And while only a section (roughly half) or Stormreaches actual geography is 'open' in DDO that's still plenty to draw from.

I should state right here that I don't make it a practice to whine endlessly about upcoming books, as they usually turn out better than I expect. But I'm still bewildered at why this book is coming out before 'Khorvaire Frontiers', 'The Empire of Goblins,' or 'Secrets of Aerenal.'

Maybe this is another novel (like City of Towers).

A hardcover Eberron supplement with four authors? Doesn't sound like a novel to me.

Maybe this will end up being a series, with other cities given the same detail as Sharn. If so, I'd like to see Shae Mordai or Korranberg next (along with other exotic cities), whose corresponding nations we don't know nearly enough about.

I'll have to add my voice to this. After Secrets of Xen'drik and Secrets of Sarlona, I'd like to see more about the main continent. Or perhaps even the sub-continent of Aerenal. Khorvaire has barely been mapped out, and practically nothing has been said about the nations beyond the Big Five.

I can see how "City of Flamekeep" would not sell too well (but perhaps a "Capitals of the Five Nations" book might), but so far it seems as if the game content was trying to tell you to play in Sharn, then eventually move on to Xen'drik, and keep the rest of the world as a backdrop.

I don't doubt the book will be great: given the authors, it should be excellent. I'm just a rather disappointed that the resources and the one/quarter slot for Eberron have not been taken up for something in Khorvaire itself.

I'd also have liked something covering either the "minor" nations of Khorvaire (Talenta plains, Aerenal [no, I don't care it's an entire continent], Lhazaar principalities and Darguun) or its more hazardous locations like the Mournland, the Demon Wastes and Droaam.

i agree, they could make it into a 4 books series along with 5n:

the untamed west- shadow marches, droaam, eldeen reaches, demon wastes.

the (something) south- zilargo, darguun, aerenal, valenar.

the (something) east-mror holds, talenta plains, q'barra, lhazaar/

I agree, they need something about the "Young Nations" of Khorvaire. Darguun, Droaam, Eldeen Reaches, Shadow Marches, etc. It could probably include the non-nations to, like the demon wastes and such.

I'm afraid I can't confirm or deny any scurrilous rumors until they are officially confirmed on the WotC product list.

There's no gnomes in Stormreach, are there?
Far from it. The gnomes have always been active seafarers with a presence in the Thunder Sea. One of the five Storm Lords, Kirris Sel Shadra, is a gnome... and thus, one of the five most powerful families in Stormreach is gnomish.

Villains of Eberon (less on the Daelkyr; they get so much press as it is).
Intrigue of Eberron or whatever. Or possibly just a more neutral "Heros of Intrigue".
I'd love to work on either of these books.

Likewise any of these. I'd also like to work on a Planes of Eberron sourcebook, as it's a subject that's largely unrealized, and I'd still like to explore various points in history - the Dhakaani Empire, the War of the Mark, etc.

However, these decisions are not in my hands. And, of course, since I can't confirm the existence of this supposed "Stormreach" book, perhaps I AM working on one of these! ;)

Considering they're the ones that stole the elemental binding from the Drow before anyone else could. I would assume that they have quite a presence there.

If for no other reason to protect their knowledge.

I was slightly dissappointed to see this title appear on Amazon, but in all honesty, I don't really know what other books for Eberron I'd like to see other than the upcoming Dragons of Eberron and a book about Khyber (Underdark for Eberron).

I'm sort of interested in reading Planes of Eberron, but only because it doesn't follow the default cosmology. Planes such as Shavarath and Dolurrh seem like interesting reads. Other than that, I have no interest in planar travel.

Edit: By the way, the only reason I'm interested in a Khyber book is because Underdark was too FR specific and Drow of the Underdark obviously doesn't work for Eberron.

Other than that, I have no interest in planar travel.
Understood. The key to me is that the planes of Eberron have influence even if you don't engage in planar travel. You can remain on Eberron and still deal with manifest zones, wild zones, and the effects of waning and waxing planes. And you can also find yourself on other planes without the use of plane shift or anything like it. A first level commoner can end up in Thelanis, if he happens to walk into the wrong place at the wrong time.

Beyond this, I'd like to address the cultures of the planes themselves. Eberron moves away from "all devils are from the Hells and all demons from the abyss" - as such, the relationship between the balor, pit fiend, and efreet of Fernia and the balor of Fernia and succubus of Mabar are all things I'd like to address.

But as I said, there's no shortage of things I'd like to work on.

Are you really this verbose? I mean, I use words that most people either don't know or wouldn't use in normal conversation, but you must have kept every vocabulary list from middle school on, organized them in a drawer next to your computer, and daily pull out the next sheet in the pile to pick a random word saying, "I will use this word at least once today."

Sorry, off-topic. Now for on-topic.

Right now, I do not enjoy the news that this will be a book. I agree that we're getting more info about the secondary world as opposed to the primary (Khorvaire).

However, I know that when it comes out I will buy it and love it. It is, after all, Eberron.

It would be churlish of me to deny it. Have you played Gloom?

But in point of fact, nope. I was using "scurrilous" to indicate that I was speaking in a formal capacity; I might have said "My NDA with WotC prevents me from directly answering this question" instead.

Of course, both my wife and I are prone to quoting Heathers: "I was impressed to see that she made proper use of the world myriad in her suicide note." And in the few Lemony Snickett books I've read, I do enjoy the exchanges about vocabulary (Come to think of it, reading a Lemony Snickett book and watching Heathers would both go well with a game of Gloom...).

AMAZING!!! :D Keith, you got to know you put out something good when know one is really excited about it, but people say they are going to buy it anyway simply because it’s Eberron.

Kudos.

PS: While were at it I would love to see a book on the "Wilds of Eberron" i.e. The Eldeen Reaches, with further exposes on things such as site of interests, notable NPC's with both fluff and crunch, even more on the Druidic Sects and relations among them. I.e. what happens if a group of Ashbound Druids decide "village A" is abasement to the natural order and must be eradicated. It just so happens however that "village A" is under the protection of a Gatekeeper Sect Hunting group that gets wind of this eradication; how does that scenario play out.

I really could go on and on, truth is I will take an above ground adventure and campaign any day over a dungeon crawl they are just so much more fulfilling. Anyway that’s my 2 platinum dragons. :)

See now this I am super super super super pumped for. Whenever it comes out. Seriously. Like, really pumped. I hope if they divide it into chapters for the various authors that you get to do Shavarath, Dolurrh, Xoriat and Dal Quor. And I hope Nic Logue gets to work on it with you, and do Syrania, Kythri, Daanvi and Thelanis. There was a generic D&D article that came out bi-weekly a while back, with Fey as the focus. The author of that column would be ideal for Thelanis.

But back on topic, if this is half as good as Sharn: CoT, it'll be in my top 5 Eberron sourcebooks for sure. As it stands, Sharn is still my second favourite after the ECS.

I love Sharn. Love it. I have been piecing together a campaign called "Tall Towers Cast Long Shadows" for awhile now (including "Chimes at Midnight" "Steel Shadows" "Murder in Oakbridge" and a bunch of my own evil little adventures that haven't seen print...yet) and I am looking forward to launching it with a fresh group of wide-eyed players once I get settled in New York...really there could be no better city to play a Sharn campaign in I think. It is very very Noir, and very very investigation and mystery veined. I'm going to make it very travel-o-larpish...we'll play sessions in the backrooms of upscale restaurants, in people's high-rise apartments, abandoned steel works, and all sorts of kickass urban locales. Very excited about this!!! I'd love to spear-head compiling the campaign for print someday (meshing all the above mentioned adventures into a truly awesome CSI-like adventure path set in Sharn with tons of supplemental material), but I don't know if I'll ever get the chance to. I'll beg Wizards...who knows...maybe they'll throw a little guy a bone. :)

Nick

P.S. Stormreach, if it did exist, would definitely be an incredible sourcebook on par with Sharn...I speculate only of course.

When and if Keith and Nick can confirm or deny that they worked on this product, I'd like to know how much influence (if any) the D&D Online: Stormreach version of the city had on their work.

I'm hoping for "none" to "not much", simply because it's at odds with the established tabletop information on Stormreach at several points. Still, either way it would be good to know.

My favourite DDO swipe ever came unintentionally from someone totally oblivious to the game being told about it.

Him: "Oh sweet, I could totally play that Shifter Druid variant from Races of Eberron!"

While I do like the idea of a Stormreach book in the vein of S:CoT, and I will still buy it regardless, I'm afraid that its usefulness to me will be rather limited. This is because, in my home campaign, an earnest colonization drive of Xen'drik has been under way since the end of the Last War. There are many settlements on the shores of Xen'drik and Stormreach isn't even the largest one anymore.

That said, since the topic was brought up, the books that I would most like to see print are:

Lands of Intrigue Zilargo & Mror Holds
Heirs of Dhakaan Darguun, Droaam, & Shadow Marches
Planes of Eberron self-explanatory
Lands of the Pointy Ears Valenar and Aerenal :P

Ah... but for how long?

Looking purely to Secrets of Xen'drik - since I shouldn't spread rumors about a book that may or may not exist - one of the things that's discussed is the fact that over the course of thirty thousand years, none of the myriad sentient races on the continent have succeeded in forming a civilization as widespread as any of the Five Nations, let alone the nations of the old giants. The Traveler's Curse is a hindrance but not destructive - though it can prevent the ability to get assistance or supplies to a settlement under attack by hostile natives, or even to hear about the attack until the settlement has been destroyed. A more serious concern is the Du'rashka Tul - the claim that any civilization that reaches a certain size will implode in homicidal madness. And that's just the culture-destroyer we know about. Essentially, the question one has to consider is why the Scriveners of the Sky, the Sulatar drow, the abeil, or what have you haven't already spread to dominate the continent... and if whatever force has held them in check may not rise to afflict any settlers from Khorvaire.

So needless to say, your campaign is your campaign. But if you run with the setting canon, the fact that there's larger cities than Stormreach NOW isn't necessarily a sign of stability; if anything, it's something that the inhabitants of these cities should worry about, because something seems to keep civilizations in Xen'drik from getting too big. When the Du'rashka Tul hits New Sharn and all its people start killing each other and painting the walls with the blood of their neighbors... well, in a month Stormreach might be the largest city again. ;)

With all that said, another thing to consider about Stormreach is that it has more going on that just being a city in Xen'drik. Again, refering to SoX, it's known as the City of Dungeons - built on the ruins of both an ancient city of the giants, and of many other cultures that have settled there only to be destroyed by the curse of Xen'drik. So even if it's not the largest city, it may have things to offer that an entirely new settlement may not.

I'm not too surprised or displeased with something like City of Stormreach, though. Traveling to Xen'drik seems like something that a lot of players will do - it would probably be handy to have their starting point on that continent fleshed out well.

When the Du'rashka Tul hits New Sharn and all its people start killing each other and painting the walls with the blood of their neighbors... well, in a month Stormreach might be the largest city again.
So can we get a Quori Alliance trying to make people better and creating Eberron Reavers in the process or is that place already filled by the mockery and the fury?

Speaking of planes, I plan on having my players end up putting together dream shards that they discovered one of in a dream, and opening up a gate to Kythri. How the dreaming of Dal Quri and the plane of Kythri are connected, I still haven't figured out, but I'll get there...

This really is an excuse to make the Githyanki part of my game, and to use more stuff from the EPH, though.
