Seriously, I finally got some spare money to buy the book with.
I knew that my local library system doesn't carry the book (or else I would have just checked it out instead of buying it). Checked the campus bookstore, no go. So, I went to Walden Books to buy it, no good, they didn't have it. Went to Books-A-Million, they didn't carry it. My local Wal-Marts carries a few R.A. Salvedor books, so I checked there, no dice.

Only place in town thats left that sells novels is Media-Play, which I'll check this weekend. But dang, I'm surprised that none of the big chains even carries it. I hope its just my area, otherwise the book can't be selling very well, because you just can't get it without special ordering it, which means 0 off the shelf impulse buys...

I got mine at Media Play. Only one copy was there though.

Try Barnes and Noble. I know my store has 2 in stock. Since your profile says Chattanooga, TN, I took the liberty of looking it up in the store directory. Heres what I found:

Barnes & Noble Booksellers
Hamilton Pl
2230 Hamilton Place Blvd.
Chattanooga, TN 37421
423-899-9970

Maybe call ahead to see if they have one in stock.

In my area, most bookstores that I have been into the last two weeks or so have had it.

I know the chapters store by my house had 6 copies when it first came out, and those are all now sold. Of course I know at least two of those copies went to my players, lol

One thing you might want to check though. For some reason I found that several sites were listing it as a sci-fi book when it was on the web for pre-orders. So if the stores seperate the fantasy and sci-fi into seperate sections, you might want to check under B in sci-fi to be safe.

TaigisAh, I totally forgot about that one, I'll be sure to check it out when I go up to Media Play (they are about 5 minutes apart from each other).

Thanks for that :)

I had similar problems finding the novel over here (northern England). I went to every book store I knew (even the gaming shop) and only one even had a single Salvatore novel on display (WH Smith), so my hopes of finding an Eberron novel on the shelf have gone. I finally submitted and ordered it from Amazon :)

I haven't checked local bookstores, but it's not in my local game store, which is worrying since they do stock similar books (like FR and White Wolf books). :(

Edymnion, I'm just northwest of your locale in Nashville and I just got mine yesterday at BAM. They called to let me know that it had arrived. The girl up there told me that there was apparently a pretty big supply/demand problem that caused the Books-A-Millions to be delayed in getting there shipments in this area. I don't know how much of that was true but no other chain here or around here, of the ones you mentioned, and a few you didn't, had the book as of this past Sunday when I checked personally so It might have been some sort of region delay or something.

Regardless, I got it and it's a very good read so far, engrossing and difficult to put down.

Not in the bookstores here in Ballarat, but I got my FLGS to order it in for me (which they did, and at a discount! ;))

Cheers!

None of the book stores around me had it. For Chapters it said they had like 5 in stock. But 3 Chapters people spent about 15min looking for it and neverfound it. Then I just ordered it from Chapters online, Got it, and finished reading it today.

Try colles instead for the novels and just stay away from any of them if you hope to get any rulebooks. I have noticed that with Chapters, while they're a great store, they have some real delivery issues.

Actually, it's possible the stores are selling out. My local Barnes and Nobles had several copies, I got one.. next day when I came back for another book, they were sold out. (I was getting a Salvatore book..and at my B&N they're side by side)

I managed to find a copy of it at Media Play today.
But, I'm driving up to Chicago here next weekend with some friends for a show, so I'm going to wait until then to actually read it. Gotta have something to do on that long ride up and back down (when I'm not driving, of course, that would be bad...). I do rather like how the cover art seems to show the WF with a built in quiver attatchment on his back...

So - those of you who've read it; how good is it? :)

So - those of you who've read it; how good is it? :)Whoa, don't go there. Actual discussion of the novels is off limits on the boards because of a direct order of the suits. You start discussing the book itself, it'll just get the thread locked.

It is good. I like the history, the holidays, and the criminal organizations. The Prestige Classes arn't anything special but that is just me.

You do know that we're talking about the novel, not the D&D expansion book, right?

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHH.

LOL :banghead:

Now I feel stupid.

Oh well, the book is good too. Although we are not aloud to talk about it.

(Shhhhhhhhhhhh. Buy it)

What's the rationale behind that? Is the ban also true if we use spoiler alerts? I've seen reviews about modules and stuff, so does this mean only novels are off-limits?

We are aloud to make ingame references to it, like if we are talking about Sharn and want to comment on how the Mourners are treated based on the books. We can't actually say, "Oh, this book rocks I like the par where . . ." or "Oh, never buy this book. It is horrible!"

Okay... but is it that they hate and fear semi-anonymous novel critics, that they want the stories to remain a big big secret so that people will actually buy the book, or... I mean, the ban doesn't make much sense to me.

Okay... but is it that they hate and fear semi-anonymous novel critics, that they want the stories to remain a big big secret so that people will actually buy the book, or... I mean, the ban doesn't make much sense to me.We don't really know why. Many of the WizO's don't agree with it either, but they have to do what they're told (they got bosses too ya know, even Dox and Mel).

I believe it had something to do with some rather unpleasant business on the old Novel boards that wound up getting it removed from the site entirely. Whatever the reason though, we don't get to talk about it.

From WizO_BigSister's FAQ:
Novels
A preliminary guideline, which may be updated when all the team has had time to consider the new ruling

Following a decision by the Books Department of WotC novel-related threads are now considered inappropriate on this board. However some references to novels is both necessary and inevitable. This should clarify what is allowed.

* It will be permitted to make references to novels when it is appropriate to the topic being discussed (e.g. If you are discussing “The Origens of the Moonblades” of course you will be able to mention “Evermeet: Island of the Elves.” As another example when discussing the nature of Cormyr as a campaign setting of course you can refer to the Sembia novels.)

* It will also be allowed discussion of the iconic characters who appear both in novels and supplements.

*It will not be permissible to post literary criticism of any novels in any thread.

* It will not be permissible to post a thread started specifically to discuss a novel.

* It would be fine to start a thread about an in-game topic, and ask for info on it from all sources including novels. Make it clear in your title and post what the topic actually is, rather than using the name of the book or series. (As an example:- if your party wanted to visit one of the towns in Icewind Dale it would be fine to ask for information given in the various novels about the buildings, the way the inhabitants talk to strangers etc. What you have to make clear is that the thread is to discuss the towns, not the various books).

I picked it up at a local B&N, but I live in Manhattan, so it would be pretty silly if I couldn't track it down.

I'll steer away from "literary criticism," but I think it's safe to say that it's a must-read for Eberron DMs. It doesn't introduce tons of new "world content," given the fact that Sharn's already well described at a high level, but the details in the novel are awesome. It's packed with details and imagnitive portrayals of magic that will help Eberron DMs weave a richer tapestry when describing the world to players.

For more on why it's a good buy for Eberron players and DMs, check out the Breland Ledger (http://breland-ledger.blogspot.com/).
