| Desann01-10-05, 10:20 AM | So, what would you name the colleges/departments of these two institutes of higher education? For MU, we know that there is a School of Pre-Galifar Studies. I would also throw in a School of Xen'Drik History, but beyond that, i am stumped. No ideas on the L of K's 8 colleges |
| Quoriil01-10-05, 12:01 PM | I created a small and underfunded program titled "School of Xeno-Archaeology" which specializes in artifacts and "historic" lore from non-Eberron sources. This includes Daelkyr ruins and artifacts, the fragments of history from the age of demons, information on the quori, etc. One of my current characters learned about navigation, history and the like at Morgrave prior to his life at sea. (So, astro-navigation & history together... liberal arts?) I imagine that most of the programs offered by modern universities would exist, simply replace "tech" based classes with similarly focused magical focus. You just have to keep in mind that these two schools wouldn't focus on magic to nearly the same extent as the college in Aundair or others, nor would they tread to far into the subjects controlled by the dragonmarked houses. |
| Ricohard_Draconis01-10-05, 12:01 PM | Colleges would probably be named after important benefactors/founders of the university or relate to a religion or other organisation. other departments could include school of modern history (post galifar) can;t think of any others of the top of my head |
| InfinityStar801-10-05, 12:29 PM | ~School of Pre-Galifar Studies ~School of Post-Galifar Studies ~School of Xeno-Archaeology (I would say this is Planes knowledge) ~School of Magical Arts (Not as great as the Twelve but an internal study) ~School of Technology (New Airships and the like) ~School of Magewrites ~School of Religus studies Just to think of a few. |
| Kaverael01-10-05, 02:40 PM | Since Eberron is coming out of a 1000 year war, I added a "School of Military History" at Korranberg. You can find articles from there in the Korranberg Chronicle, as my character, Knewt, is a professor and correspondent. |
| Peter the Hegemon01-10-05, 03:16 PM | I had always imagined the colleges of the Library of Korranberg to be more akin to the college system that Cambridge/Oxford use, where each "college" contains students (as a dormitory), but also classrooms and professors (or if you like the different Houses in the Harry Potter books). :) In that case, each college would just have name (from a saint or other person or position) and a reputation (the snooty gnomes go here, the technological gnomes go here). Though from reading the Library entry in Chapter 8 of the ECS, it seems as though "each college seeks to advance a particular field of study" so I guess the above is wrongly thought. Oh well. :( At my university, we have the following colleges: *College of Agriculture and Life Sciences *College of Architecture *College of Education and Human Development *College of Geosciences *College of Liberal Arts *College of Science *College of Veterinary Medicine *Dwight Look College of Engineering *George Bush School of Government and Public Service *Mays Business School If we know that Morgrave has a School of Pre-Galifar Studies, then I would say that it's actually a Khorvairian-only college, unless you take Pre-Galifar to just mean the time period, which I kind of don't like. But oh well. |
