It strikes me as a good model to get a feel for the current state of Eberron. For those that aren't familiar, it starts off in a major metropolis in a country that's been at war for over a century. A mandatory draft makes for no males between the ages of 18 and 25 and damn few older (the survival rate isn't what it could be at the front). The background of the books takes this into account, as well as massive amounts of nonhoman refugees. In later books the war is over, and suddenly there IS a grouping of 18-25 year old males, and all those foreign refugees and they're butting heads and etc. It just seems to me that the books give a good insight into some of the current problems eberron might be going through, just a few short years after the centuries' old war finally ends and there is a massive number of Cyrean refugees milling about. |
