consequences of somebody trying to blow up Sharn [Archive] - Wizards Community

I'm the DM - one of my players insisted on annihilating a market place full of hundreds with dozens of strategically-placed explosives --- he succeeded and subsequently killed a lot of people - it's an especially gruesome crime, and I was wondering what the consequences of this act would be - which power-groups would be after him? and which groups would be attracted to him as a result of his (clearly) chaotic evil actions...

he's escaped (spell: instantly transported his soul into a clone upon death) and scurried into the depths below the city and eventually found a path that leads to the surface ---- but I'm assuming he'll have a price on his head so high, I can't even begin to imagine who'd be after him!

to be honest, I don't know how to explain the magnitude of his crime --- I would love some advice! thank you

... why?

Well, if the reward is *that* high, even, say, Vol might want his head as funding. The Boromars, the Daask, House Tarkanan, the Citadel, the Redcloaks, the Blackened Book, House Deneith, House Tharashak, House Medani, House Thaunni, House Philiarn...

I'm imagining Boranel authorizing the use of a Khyber's Fang dagger to kill this idiot, binding his soul forever, and kept in a flameproof lead box dropped in the lava below Sharn.

I like the sound of that! good idea... the reason for his actions - I think he's trying to impress a group of demons - he thinks they can award him enough power to take over the city, if he commits enough heinous crimes... the demons have taken notice, but at this point view him more as a source of entertainment than anything to be taken seriously - although he doesn't know this... he thinks he's really impressing them

I've got three other players in the group who were against these actions, but allowed him to proceed (not believing he'd succeed) --- now they regret their association with him and are trying to distance themselves --- would they too be in danger? I'd like to resolve this issue logically, and remain faithful to the workings of Eberron, but how could I possibly keep these four characters together? I'd rather not kill his character as punishment -- he's worked hard on this guy, and he's quite proud of him

You keep them together by having someone quite...nasty, working for an unnamed boss, pointing out that anything that they would do to their friend for what he did, it will be done to the other three characters if they don't find him within X days.

Guaranteed to either get them to stick together, or for this to be resolved by means of evil guy being gutted and having to make a new character.

haha good call! I can see this happening! this could actually provide a really cool plot development... I like it!

Think about the possible victims. People from everywhere live in Sharn. Some Blademarks off on leave got blown up, probably more than a few gnomes, some Merchants from all the houses.

Even if it doesn't warrent official attention from The Twelve, House Denieth proper, or The Trust there are probably more than a few agents from the above with personal vendetas.

Yeah, he probably just ticked off... well... EVERYBODY.
Heck, you could concievably even get the Dragons after him if one of their key contacts in Sharn just so happened to be in that market at the time.

Basically, by blowing up an entire marketplace of Sharn, he just gave you free reign to have essentially ANYBODY in the entire setting want him dead, because you never know who might have been in there.

Well I can see the demons he wanted to impress being upset for loosing a contact (or a dozen) and mabe a few agents in the big boom.

I don't think it is the case, the lords of dust (and when you speak of demons in Eberron 9 times out of ten you are talking of the LoD) consider working with humans below them, even if they do they consider them tools and specifically expendable tools, so losing humans agents if would be maybe a little annoying, but with humans, or even elves, being so short lived you had to expect it.

I was thinking of a rakshasa agent, buried beneath a few hundred tons of stone and whatever once was in a specific building / tower... the "mortals" are merely.. well "mortals" for them, true... ;)

Aye, blowing up random humans isn't going to impress them. The Last War did a lot of that, and it was merely entertainment.

To IMpress them, he's going to have to advance their schemes...and that means finding out their schemes. Wonder what he'll do when he finds out he's merely a cartoon character to them, and they are laughing at his antics and childish ploys?

*Imagines a couple of Rakshasa with a scrying bowl and lots of fiendish popcorn.* :D
