| JohnnyONeal02-10-05, 02:01 PM | The Eberron Journal has posted a new article in its popular Conversions section. Check out Complete Arcane Classes (http://www.coveworld.net/eberron/conversions-ca.html) for ideas on how to place some of the sourcebook's classes and prestige classes in Khorvaire (and beyond). http://www.coveworld.net/eberron/conversions-ca.html Thanks to everyone at these boards who participated in the brainstorming that influenced this article. And don't forget to check out the Complete Warrior (http://www.coveworld.net/eberron/conversions-cw.html), Complete Divine (http://www.coveworld.net/eberron/conversions-cd.html), and Expanded Psionics Handbook (http://www.coveworld.net/eberron/conversions-xph.html) conversion articles for more ideas and inspiration. STANDARD DISCLAIMERS: Like previous conversions, this article focuses on classes and prestige classes that fit in Eberron without significant changes. While there's more than one way to place any given class, this article generally focuses on tying each class to a specific organization or aspect of Eberron's history. As always, it's not recommended to simply dump all of this content straight into your game. If you're a player and you like any of these ideas, talk to your DM about making such a class part of your game. If you're a DM, remember that spellcasters experienced enough to have prestige class levels are extremely rare among the humanoid civilizations of Eberron (and high-level NPCs in Eberron are rarely good guys). Eberron and all related copyrights are the property of Wizards of the Coast. |
| Zedium02-10-05, 02:42 PM | Looking good Johnny, I see you went for my Xen'drik Archanamach suggestion in the end. I can't wait for you to get started on the complete adventurer. |
| Arcane Guyver02-10-05, 03:08 PM | Very nice. I'm impressed how some of the classes have been used, like the Green Star Adept. |
| law02-10-05, 03:56 PM | Looks good over all. The one you left out (the Wu Jen) is just an easy add on anyway. So it gets a 9 out of 10 on the looks good chart :D . |
| JohnnyONeal02-11-05, 01:28 PM | Thanks for the feedback! I waffled a lot on the Wu Jen, but I didn't ultimately feel I had a dynamite placement for it. My favorite suggestion was that it be used as an alternate magical tradition secretly practiced in Riedra and Adar, but I hate to propose something like that when I know it won't be supported by future Sarlona sourcebooks. (The whole "taboos" aspect also seems kind of arbitrary in that placement.) It might make a good magical tradition for primitive or isolated cultures, though I don't see a great in-game reason for it. Ultimately, I think the wu jen works better as a replacement of the wizard rather than something that exists in the same world. I have no problem using "Oriental" content in Eberron (like the Kensai as a Dol Arrah prestige class), but I don't feel any of the many suggested placements for wu jen (or samurai) work better than existing classes or multi-class options. On the other hand, I highly recommend using wu jen spells as treasure -- in spellbooks, scrolls, or unusual magic items. I'll definitely tackle Complete Adventurer next, though I have to admit I'm less inspired by it. The content is great, but most of it is already generic enough to simply drop into the world (like the thief-acrobat, the spymaster, the dungeon delver), and the few things that aren't (like the Daggerspell classes) seem like awkward conversions. But hey, I've gotta do it just for the sake of completeness. |
| jedi818702-14-05, 09:12 AM | Nice work Jhonny. Can't wait for the CV, if you post a discussion thread I'm sure you'll get some good ideas. I have one burried somewhere in the classes board. For The Daggerspell guardians, I say greensingers(fey are sneaky, and often a source of arcane power for the mages). Any interest in converting the Races of Books? |
| Atlictoatl02-14-05, 01:26 PM | Ah, I've been anticipating this. Yay! I've lately been thinking of placing some of the Oriental Adventures classes into Dhakaani culture. I haven't closely examined the idea yet, but that would be my first impulse with Wu Jen and Shugenja; make 'em ancient traditions of Dhakaan. |

For the shugenja, I'm having them be an elemental cult that started in Zilargo. After all they do bind the lesser elementals. The various elements have moved to where the gnomes have moved. Earth worshippers in the Mror Holds, Water worshippers in Lhazaar, air worshippers in places in Sharn, and fire...well, wherever they would go. The idea is to make them extremely small, and very cultish..not a true religion, but enough to have faith in something. |

I love the shugenja, or atleast the story I've made for them. Sadly, I haven't made a charecter using them yet, but I have anew campaign coming up so I may use it there. |
| darkthought02-14-05, 07:56 PM | Any chance of taking a look at Libris Mortis? They'd be pretty easy to place with the worshipers of Vol and the Keeper. But some aren't so easy... |
