Ok I am running a game set in the last years of the Last war. And I have a character who is looking to buy a warforged. I was wondering what I should charge him for it? I figured about 3500 gp.

This debate has been around before but I don't think anyone ever came to a price of any sort. Just warning you of the can of worms you opened with this post :)

slavery is illegal in the five nations
the price of a warforged might be hanging

OKay, I think people missed the "set in the last years of the Last War" part, so it wouldn't be illegal yet - hell, all of the Five Nations were still doing it mostly in bulk.

That said, check the Ask Keith Baker compilation thread thingy. I think he covered it at some point.

Funny this came up, I was just going to look for the same thing myself. I'll post again if I find it.

Wouldn't this be almost the same price range as buying / building a construct? I would say maybe closer to the Shield Guardian but still. This is a cool idea for RP and a future character, set the next game ahead in years and the player can be the warforged that he had originally bought. :)

I'd probably set the price as the cost of a clay golem minus the XP penalty.

Keith's suggestion is here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6585845&postcount=226), though I'm sure it's very different from what many people expect.

Compare the costs you end up with to things like a siege weapon (500 - 3000 gp), or equiping a unit of 20 footsoldiers (~1,400 gp).

Then again, a squad of soldiers needs sleep, food, humane living conditions and rest after an extended campaign. Warforged need none of those and they(or their relatives in the case of death) don't need to be paid. So I'd think it would be a good deal. And they come housebroken(trained) too...

Yeah, really, in a world where soldiers are Warrior 1 or 2, buying pre-trained armor-plated Fighter 2's to fight for you is a pretty damn good deal. Have some "medics" around (experts with Craft something that can fix the 'forged), and you can get a unit of 'Forged up and running again in about a third of the time it would take a similar living unit.

I'm still guessing that Undead make a better (cheaper) force, but who wants to mess with that kind of thing? ( :weep: I do...).
