When an artificer crafts a Homi, does he have to succeed at a craft (pottery) or craft (sculpting), etc. check? Or does his craft Homunculus feat supercede that requirement so long as the successful UMD checks are made and other costs are paid? I'm a bit confused because it seems like making a DC 16 sculpting check would be quite difficult for a 4th level character without using an extra feat.
Thanks

First, this belongs in the Cosmology and Magic department.

Second, it wouldn't be all that hard. You probably have the time to take 10, and if you have a decent Int modifier, 2 or 3 points into sculpting should get you a total of 16. Probably worth it to make all the homunculi you want in your career.

Craft Homonculi does not magically give you the ability to craft their body.
You still need to either make the check, or hire somebody else to make it for you, you don't have to make it yourself. You just need to use your own blood during the animation magics.

But really, any first level artificer should be able to make a DC 16 check.
Max ranks in the Craft skill, thats +4. Any good Artificer player realizes that Charisma is NOT the prime stat for the class, reguardless of what the book says. Its Intelligence. No Artificer should have an Intelligence below a 14. Thats another +2, for a total of +6.

You can always Take 10 on a craft check, so thats an automatic 16 at first level, no problem. A 4th level character should be able to hit DC 19 check without breaking a sweat.
