Does anyone remember where the rules were for crafting artwork (including written texts as well as sculpting, painting, etc) and the values of the artwork created? I've looked everywhere, but I keep missing them...

Well, you could simply use Craft (painting/writing/whateva) or Profession (Artist) depending on whether you're more of a trained artist or a from-the-heart artist.

Most of the WotC stuff I've seen supports the Craft one.

If you want to make rules for creating inidiviual artworks, maybe use the crafting rules.

My first guess would be a Forgotten Realms book, but I'm not particularly well-educated in that area.

That would be D20 Modern which limits craft and knowledge to a handful of broad skills.

Found the written artwork in Races of Stone, p131.

Anyone know where the rules are for crafting physical artwork like sculptures and paintings?

There is a free download from bastion press, ink and quill, that should cover part of that issue.

http://www.bastionpress.com/downloads.htm

[edit] Well, I've read it and while it is a good start to do some ruling, as it is is a little too much based around PRC to apply it to Eberron.

Basically, RAW says you use a Craft (Painting) check in the same way you would use a Craft (Weaponsmithing) check to make a sword.

You work up the DC for the finished product, how much the finished product is worth, and then make checks until you finish it.

Not ideal, but it works.

Perhaps a bit of houserule tweak, and say that you make your craft checks and then the final value of the work is a function of the DCs you hit.

So say you're going to spend a week on making a painting. You roll daily Craft (Painting) checks, and your final painting is worth say 5 sp for every point above DC 10 for each of those checks.

If it's artwork by commission I make the craft check and opposed one to the patron's appraise. I then set a per point above DC amount that the character is paid.

Yeah, a specific painting would use a craft check.
If the character just wants to paint for an income, then it's a Profession check.

After all, the best product in the land won't sell if you don't know how to get people to give it a chance, and even a crummy product can sell like hotcakes with the right marketing. (aka, its not what you sell, its how you sell it, as in profession check instead of craft check)

I can see profession (artist) covering mass produced artwork... perhaps "letterheads" and the like.

Craft (whatever) would be the individual painting of the Lord High Marshall etc... and would have a agreed upon price before painting comenced.
