I was wondering if it was possible to use the craft skill to create technological devices. I know there are a couple of classes geared around making that sort of stuff but it never actually goes into what you need to be able to do it. Anyone have any ideas as to how to work it? To clearify, I'm wondering about making things that you could call "gizmos" somthing you might expect a gnome to come up with. For example boots that have rollerskates that can pop out when you press a button, or steampowerd horse, something along those lines.

If you look in D20 Modern, there is a skill called Craft(Mechanical). That might be what your looking for.

There's a Gnome Artificer prestige class in a FR book, not sure which one. It does stuff like this. Very different from the ECS Artificer. Check the Player's Guide to Faerun, maybe.

I believe that the Gnome Artificer is in Magic of Faerun.

Yea the Gnome Art. has perfect sistem to make "gizmos". Think of making some DC's from the Craft(mechanics). The class gives good gide line for faking spell efects.
A friend was a Monk/Sor/Gnome Art. and he made some nifty items =)

P.s.
D&D is a diferent sistem that D20 Modern. Dont add new rules to the game jost use Rules alredy there. :)

There is a new one, I think its in the Lost Empires of Faerun but I am not sure. I can check when I get home and update this post later.

In any case you can use the standard Craft skills to do that but your DM will have to come up with the DCs for the checks and may impose prerequisites like your character needs a Schema to work from as well as Lab/work-area to build your mechanical wonders.

There's the Maester PrC in the Complete Adventurer. It's a gnome artificer thing. But it's not technology, just magic items.
