Imagine if I were to throw the Recharge Magic Variant from UA into Eberron. Now consider the logical results with me and these two prominent factors: At first level a sorceror can spend 16 hours a day casting an average of 2400 spells though he might also want to eat some time. So that would be 900 spells in a 5 hour work day with breaks in between. The house mark abilities would have to recharge as well or they wouldn't have very major historical or economic impact. Therefore we can draw these conclusions: The cost for someone to cast a spell would reduce by a factor of about 1000 due to the increase in supply. Its important to adjust the cost in this way and then adjust the character wealth, by level charts so that PC's don't start with a ticket to the top. Now its only 6 sp for one of house Ghallanda's magical healings. However, spell casters might refuse to lower the price to represent 900 spells in 5 hours. The prices would probably only lower by a factor of 100. A magical healing now costs 6 gp. The Arcane Congress' persuit to discover means by which to implement magic into every day living would progress at a faster rate. There wouldn't be just one lightning rail. More like 100 lightning rails. 100 times the airships on Eberron. Sharn's towers would rise into the air by increments of 100,000' not 1000'.Unfortunately it gets worse as we begin to imagine mages using magic to find, transport and manipulate dragon shards and the other materials they need to make greater magical items. Then a breed of permanently magical wondrous items for the soul purpose of making magical item production cheeper and more cost effective would emerge. The appearance of the warforged only serves to demonstrate that magical items can become self sustaining. Once all industry is taken over by the magical items everyone will have the time to study and unearth the secrets of the arcane. Eventually, epic magic would spill forth into the world... ~~~ When you put Recharge Magic into the works pretty soon the people of Eberron will be probing deep space. However, this chain of events would be inevitable in any magical world or even the real world. In fact, mathematicians have projected a steep geometric sequence for determining the appearance of future technology within the next few years. Based on the interelationships between population, the increasing rate of population increase's increase, previous technology helping to advance current technology, current technology helping to advance previous technology (which in turn advances current technology further, which advances previous technology further, and so on, and so on...), the driving competative force of the world economy during both periods of depression and optimism, and war's influence on technological and industrial development all suggest that roughly 7 years and 6 months from now in the last 135 minutes before the newyear of 2012 (the end of the most accurate callendar on earth, the Mayan callender), often hailed as the end of linear time itself, the civilization(s) of earth will experience 18 paradigm shifts comparable to the appearance of life or the invention of a language, 13 of which will be experienced in the last second. After this the rate of revolution (as in agricultural, industrial, and computer) approaches infinity. Also at this time earth will experience a cosmic alignment of our solar system with the plane of our Galaxy, the Milky Way representing the end of a 25,920 year cycle, or one Precession of the Equinoxes. My theory is that this is the very kind of thing that the Dragon prophecy may fortell, though there could be a chance for failure just like in all good prophecies. What is the nature of this "Transformation" I wonder? Whether Eberron will be marked by both transformation and destruction is not a mystery, but the ultimate design for Eberron is not for it to be destroyed, because then nobody can play campaigns there. Perhaps some of the plains of Eberron will merge? Perhaps the dragonmarked houses will learn to use the power of their associated moons and "draw them down", not for impact mind you, but in the same sense that people who practice wicca speak of a time when the moon was closer and life on earth was different. In fact the moon has been receading from earth at a rate of one inch per year giving credence to the lunatics who worshiped it as the male celestial body in the sky. The Babylonians who knew the position of all the planets in the solar system described the moon as being twice the visible size of the sun. Was there ever such a time on the world of Eberron when the moons were closer? Might the dragon mark houses actually be able to live on the moon associated with them in order to draw their power? I also wish to learn more details conscerning Eberron's "Celestial Battle" or Inuma Elish to draw further parallels between our world and Keith's. ~~~ Oh and just in case you were all wondering where the Apocalypse factors into this. The word apocalypse, despite its less cheery connotation, used to mean "transition". The fact of the matter is that the age of Pisces ended in 1987 and the age of Aquarius begins on 2012. Therefore we are essentially living in an apocalypse. Perhaps the appearance of AIDS is one of the portents of the apocalypse. I'm still looking for the four horsemen or what exactly it is they represent though I'm certainly not at a loss for candidates.
