I was trying to fit all the pieces of the world's backstory and the events of my campaign together in a really cool way... when it hit me... Everyone on Eberron is dead. They are all 'Shadows Of The Last War.' They all died in the arcane blast that came from the mournlands. But what happens when that huge a number of people from all different races die in a matter of moments? Perhaps the combined psychic power of all of their dying wishes at once could have some kind of major impact upon the world. What would everyone wish for? Not to die, of course. And so, two years ago, the power of their dying wishes kept them in this world, and kept their world intact (with the exception of the mournland. The effects of the arcane blast are felt too strongly there.) Yet the edges of this world are fraying. People are dying for good, and going to Dulurrh. And Dulurhh is a rather miserable place. Now, the Schema. My theory of the creation of Eberron is that the gods created a world with the 3 progenitor Wyrms, then left for planes unknown. They would return in a few aeons to see which of the Wyrms had won out in the end. The Schema was designed by the giants to punch through to the dimension of the gods, and bring them back to Eberron prematurely. The Schema is the only chance the people of the world have for a better afterlife. Now, the warforged are the only people in the world right now who are not in danger of dying permanently. They will remain behind when everyone else is gone. The Lord of Blades likes this idea, and doesn't want any possible interference from the gods to mess it up. That's why he is trying to recover the pieces of the schema. The Blood Of Vol... why do they want the schema? Who knows? And the PCs... well, I guess we'll see what they end up deciding to do... So anyhow, what do you folks think about my little Sixth Sense meets DnD idea? Also, I really could use some suggestions on how to introduce this to the PCs, since I only have about 4 sessions left to run it... |

Well have them maybe find ruins or part of a prophecy fragment that talk of such a occurance in the world, and slowly, 2-3 instances per game, show how these fragments are true and more and more parts become visable. (Maybe even go a bit Jaccobs' Ladder* on them) Those are what I can think of right now.... *Kick arse move about being dead and not knowing it. |
| rwarner370103-20-05, 12:30 PM | WOW... That is a really awesome concept. To introduce it to your characters, I would have them recieve a messanger from some monsterous humanoid that the Sisters of Sora Kell wish to speak to them. With their power of insight, they can see the future and wish to continue their lives if possible. If I was doing this for my characters, I would have the sisters empty their entire country to travel to the Mournland. Once their, an epic battle would take place between the monsterous humanoids and the warforged so that the PC's could get to the ruins where the Lord of Blades is working on destroying the schema once and for all. (Although I have not seen AVP I would imangine that the battle is like the one on the ziggurat in the previews.) The monsterous humanoids have numbers but die quickly so the battle evens out. When the schema is completed, everything comes to a standstill while the dragons appear to the characters and speak to them. They explain that although the winner is yet to be determined it has been decided that the game shall continue. Life will go on. Kind of a cliffhanger ending but that is what I would do, possibly requiring the lives of the PC's so that the world may live. But i would be starting a new set of characters afterwards and their would have to be a reason to not continue the current ones. |

The core belief of the Blood of the Vol is that death is a curse sent by the gods. As such, they would be some of the first to find out about a way to defeat death. To them, it would be like a sign from their vampire lords that this is the way to achieve transendence from death. Of course, they would most likely be disappointed when the schema was completed and their mystical vampire lords didn't appear to transport them away. rwarner3701's idea sounds really cool and cinemactic, but if you have any kind of ending like this, make sure you have the outcome influenced by the PC's. Maybe they have to steal the schema from the warforged and fight off the Droammites who want it for themselves, and work with renegade agents of House Cannith to finish the schema as time races by and the monsters close in. Aforementioned fight until the Dragons appear, ending in a standstill. Instead of the Dragons arbitrarily deciding to continue life, have the creation of the Schema convince them that the prophecy demands that life continue...for now. Again, this is really great and creative idea. The only problem I see is that if the PCs are still struggling with the schema, then they are probably still low level. You'll have to design your adventure carefully, but I think it's a great idea. Go with it! |
