Basically a thread for filling in the history of Eberron... Berax the Mad, Breland (suceeded by Boranal the Grand) Berax the Mad is an individual whom is something that the majority of the Brelish would like to forget ever existed but still looms like a shadow over the nation. Berax the Mad ascended to the throne of Breland at a comparatively young age after the untimely deaths of his elder relations and started out his reign with largely little in the way of controversy. Berax the Mad's desires to win the Last War lead to some relatively controversial decisions in his reign though that became fodder for some of the worst atrocities of the war such as the organized campaign of extermination against the Cyrean descended Brelish in North-Eastern Breland, the hacking off the hands and blinding of all prisoners of war before sending them back to their home nations, and the increasingly huge dungeon of tortures that Berax the Mad used to interrogate himself the captured nobility. The insanity of Berax largely grew during this time as the King's Citadel kept a tight lid on his eccentricies and it is believed he ordered the taking of more than a hundred women for his indulgences that left them dead in the morning, routinely hosted parties that exalted the Dragon Below, and actually ate the son of a dissenting nobleman before having the later drawn and quartered. Berax the Mad's reign came to an abrupt end after killing his two eldest heirs for plotting against him and eventually murdering his own Queen. His youngest Boranal had been spirited away to the warfront to keep him away from the reach of his father, whom believed him to be dead, and it was after the murder and assault of his youngest Charlotte that his guards finally stabbed him to death. Fears of the King's madness being inherent have lead to a taint over Boranal's reign as it is feared that any of his children might have inherited his dementia. Jarlot the Second aka Kassius the Thirteenth Prince Jarlot the Black Prince was an individual whom never ascended to the throne of Galifar but was ruler over Karrnath with his younger brother Kaius. Many historians of all Five Nations have honorifically given him the title of Jarlot the Second for his heroism even if he never so much as ruled a day of the kingdom. Known as the "Paladin Prince" Jarlot was called by an early age to fight for Dol Arrah and did so against countless enemies across Khovaire. His known accomplishments include slaying one of the Lord's of Dust, discovering a cure for an especially virulent plague in Cyre, and also his tireless war against the Emerald Claw. Prince Jarlot's popularity is only mired by the fact that he married the heir of Cyre in Queen Camal after her husband was killed under mysterious circumstances. Not even the worst of his detractors will imply that he had anything to do with the man but most believe he was foolish to fall in love with her. It is indeed due to Queen Camal that Prince Jarlot was sent to the Eldeen Reaches on a quest to recover her kidnapped daughter that he met his end in a battle against unimaginable numbers of Dolgaunts. The fact that it was discovered her daughter was never kidnapped at all was a major factor in many individuals refusing to recognize Queen Camal's heirdom to the throne of Galifar. Queen Camal, The Rightful Heir, the Serpent Queen Camal is a figure that arouses much controversy in Khovairian history since she is the "rightful" heir by Galifar tradition to the throne but also an individual that most historians agree was a horrible Machiavellian politician, ruthless schemer, and utter tyrant. Some dissenters, particularly Cyreans, point out that such qualities can be benefits to a monarch and that she should have been allowed to take the Throne of Galifar. Given many suspected that she had deliberately arranged for Prince Jarlot's death in order to become heir, the arguement continues on. Queen Camal was an individual known for growing up the sister of her more popular brother Casar and the infamous Priest-King Calon of Cyre. Camal cultivated intensely strong relations with House Cannith early in her life and when Casar died of sudden illness, believed largely to be actually natural, she was already in a strong position to inherit. Her reign over Cyre was only beginning when Jarlot the First was already startup his military buildup in the Five Nations and Camal did her best to put these war materials to use while arguing for as much to be produced in Cyre as possible. Camal's re-conquest of the Balenar people and organized campaign of terror against them, that would place future Valenar under a fairly hated series of military governors. Camal further started a ruthless persecution of the Church of the Silver Flame in order to build a sizeable warchest for reasons most suspect to be her already plotted ascension to Galifar's throne. Many Silver Flame adherents of Cyre fled to Thrane during this period to escape persecution and helped increase the tensions between the nations dramatically along with displace many moderates in the lower to middle classes. Queen Camal's murder of Prince Jarlot has already been covered and it hadn't helped that her previous husband had been the beloved younger son of the King of Breland. She even offended Aundair during this period by having the Queen's brother die in a tournament (many actually believe this was an accident and her reputation simply added to percieved offenses).
