| WiltChamberlain11-02-04, 02:53 AM | We finished up SotLW tonight... my players however decided to keep the creation pattern. I'm not sure why they would want to do this, as they know there are at least 2 factions willing to gut them for it. I don't have WotVB yet since the city I live in is utterly devoid of game shops. So now I have to figure out something for them to do with this pattern... surely somebody will figure out they have it. Any suggestions? Anyone... anyone at all... Bueller? |
| HippoRider11-02-04, 07:28 AM | perhaps the PCs thought it was too dangerous to let either faction have it? maybe you could set some bounty hunters after them and it? Jeremy |
| BullyBoy11-03-04, 01:35 AM | So now I have to figure out something for them to do with this pattern... Ancient magic... Let them puzzle over it all they want. I would leave it as a mystery. You could give them some leads about the location of ancient tomes and the like that might have some info on how to use the pattern. Let them go on several adventures in order to figure it out, if at all. |

Bueller? Holding onto the creation pattern is actually very smart, given its function. Do you trust Elaydren? How about Merrix d'Canneth, or Canneth East, or the Emerald Claw? The Lord of Blades? Any of these groups could end up with all 4 schema in the end, but without the creation pattern they will be unable to use them. At least at first. If this was intentional, then I suspect your PCs did a little more background reading than you probably allow. In any case here are three options: 1.) The creation pattern only works in conjunction with the 4 necessary schema. That the PC's hold onto the creation pattern prevents the NPC groups interested in it from acquring it immediately, but doesn't stop them from replicating or stealing it. Maybe the NPC group in question begins to employ severe tactics against the PCs in order to reacquire the Creation Pattern. Eventually the NPCs should be able to recreate the creation pattern. 2.) The creation pattern is a template into which schema are placed to generate unique effects as different schema are used in it. The PCs might be able to search Xen'drik for other schema that will fit the creation pattern, and use them to create...something. Maybe a weapon, maybe armor, maybe an artifact, maybe a creation forge, maybe whatever you darn well please. 3.) The creation pattern can operate without all 4 schema, but operates at a lesser efficiency than it would if it had all 4. Maybe it produces a powerful permanent magical effect, but has a great XP and GP cost to use without the 4 schema, and each schema is labeled 1-4. |
| Tribucket11-12-04, 01:46 AM | You might see this outcome a lot, actually. Our gaming group had this outcome (I'm playing a character, not DMing, for once) and we certainly didn't read ahead. It was based on the general paranoia of two of the players, with the rest of the party not really trusting anyone else, either. The general consensus was to turn over the schema to Elaydren, and destroy the creation pattern. You could create a good adventure around what we discussed after the end of the adventure, which was that our party wanted to find a nice volcano in Xen'drik to dump it in. That would be good if their main goal is denial of the pattern to other factions. Or, instead, if they want to use the thing, you can set up an adventure to try to steal the first schema back from House Cannith. Either way admits for lots of encounters and plot elements to come easily to mind: several groups will be dogging their steps if they're planning to destroy the thing, and even more if they're planning on using it. |
