Crisis in Aundair [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-10-05, 01:39 PM Okay, I have a situation here in a game I'm running. Suppose the First Warlord and Minister of Magic of Aundair, Adal, were to acquire a powerful magical artifact from Xendrik and find a way to tap into its resources. Then, he attempts to use the artifact to power an eldritch machine that would unleash a rain of spells across northwestern Thrane all at once, in order to restart the Last War with a heavy advantage in Aundair's favor.

Now, let's say certain agents of Queen Aurala were to track down Adal and the artifact he acquired, and attack his hidden fortress in the middle of nowhere when he was personally overseeing the completion of the ritual. After disrupting the ritual and causing it to backfire, the artifact destroys itself along with the entire fortress and Adal himself in a spectacular display.

What do you think would be the long-term effects of this? It happens entirely within Aundairian borders, so I'm not worried about the beginning of the Next War. But it seems to me there will be some kind of power vacumn or political intrigue to worry about, now. Can anyone give me some suggestions as to what should happen next? What would happen to the independents agents responsible?

10-10-05, 04:45 PM "He was attempting to recreate the Mournland disaster, your Majesty...thank goodness it only destroyed the fortress and not all of Aundair! Pity he didn't get out in time, but better then then all of Aundair lost!"

Or she would try to contrive this as a terrorist attack against her country and murder of loyal citizens as reason for a preemptive strike against someone and if she harps just right someone may come and help her.
