| Save-vs-DM10-05-04, 04:08 PM | Right, I admit it: I love CSI. I also happen to think that this might might quite a cool basis for a campaign. With the addition of the Master Inquisitive and the Watch Detective from MotW, this would be rather easy to pull off. Imagine having each of your PCs being a member of the Sharn city watch, and throwing dead bodies and mysteries at them. I'm sure that I'm far from teh first person to have this idea, but what do other people think? You think this will work or will it get to repetitive? Cheers, Save vs DM |
| Mr. VanderMeer10-05-04, 04:13 PM | I think this is a great idea! You would probably change the concept a little in order to incorporate some action and maybe some plots that span several crime scenes. (maybe a mastermind villain). But I think it is very possible to pull this off. |

| Saurenda10-05-04, 04:49 PM | I'm sorry it sounds a little boring. Between missions, not to mention low paychecks from a government or worst yet freelance job as an investigator the players would be scraping for items as well information for a majority of the game. Now I love intrigue as much as the next CSI junkie, but I'm not about to bring it into my game. Detective work is usually the job of one of the party members, to orient a team around such a thing make me shudder. DM: "The Daelkyr are attacking!" Players: "Lets talk to people!" *shudders* :P At any rate, there is plenty to be done without investigation, and that job I usually leave to the NPCs since it tends to drive most of my players to deep thought, and worse yet wasting precious session time. I'm delaing with college level and beyond players who need to carefull plan things out, and every move at that too. Battle itself is quite horrid till I tried a new method of initatives(in sets  ), so they never know a monster is around the corner, much less the bbeg. While it does seem like a good idea, like most of your great suggestions Saves, I don't think it will work in long term means. Financial resources will be low, and worse yet the party will always be working for some noble, or house, and it becomes a matter of attachment; Just who do we prioritize our help to? If they are in the watch itself things get even worse. Endless streams of murders, strange disapearences, and etc. Much worse such a campaign in Karnnath. BTW Saves, whats with all this free time? Don't tell me your actually considering yet another campagin. Why Saves, you'll be the death of us all. As the grandson, and son of law enforcement officers I say I'd rather hit things with a sword. :fight!: |
| Okami10-05-04, 05:39 PM | My players are very burnt out from a previous DM when it comes to hack and slash, so throwing a little murder mystery at them is always a good way to spend a session. It's been pretty fun on both ends as long as you dont get too bogged down in logic and making the PCs as detail-centric as the show. You should be able to tell if your players are capable of this sort of pacing or if they'd even be interested. I am lucky in the obsession levels my guys have with CSI, but I know a few people who would rather IRL romance Kobolds than spend a session playing detective. I think the key is to assume that they are going to read into everything if they get into solving the crime so be prepared to be flexible. That and don't get mad if they dont't follow your logic.. but that goes without saying. |
| Xeraph10-05-04, 06:06 PM | Hmn... yes, lots of plots, thats always good. Could definatly be nice with some murder mistery once in a while. Twist the noirmal CSI with some Eberron magic and a BBEG at the end... could be interesting. But for what? Wheres the reward... Needs to be progress, going back to the office, waiting, is not enough. Could be that it had something to do with close NPCs from sharn, so when they came back from Xen'drik, they stumbled onto the death of a favored innkeeper, or lost love or whatever... you could maybe use the CSI plots as PC plots for the single PC. "Apart from slaying living spells at the Mournland borders, Jehwen the Occult Slayer, always had a great time in the Chalice Spire in Sharn, where he enjoyed to luxeries of fine woman. The Chalice Spire always offered some new exotic lady for Jehwen... but not today, as he got near the 7 story Spire he could feel something was wrong... maybe it was just his sixth sense messing with him.. or maybe it was the ten crusified hookers on the great double doors... either thing, Jehwen swore he would find the culprit behind this, no one in all of Sharn will get away with this theft of his pleasure!" Or something... :mymy: |
| Save-vs-DM10-06-04, 12:41 AM | *shrug* Good points all. A lot I hadn't considered. Guess I can scratch this one off my "future campaign ideas" list. Cheers, save vs DM |
| Shandronas10-06-04, 12:48 AM | I think it's an interesting idea. For a campaign based entirely in Sharn (which is entirely possible), this would be a welcome change to the Living Greyhawk games that the people in my group play on off days. I may have to steal this from you. |
