| Charles Phipps03-24-05, 04:30 PM | Apparently, since I've already got the title of canon buster in Eberron, I might as well go one step further. What role do you think artificial limbs for organics pose in Eberron? We've practically got plenty of rules for them already in the warforged add ons, what about for fully organic beings? I was thinking House Cannith could be trying to recoup some of its massive sudden downturn in military supplies by feasting into House Jorasco's tithes by offering alternatives to the expensive "regeneration" and the like treatments. Given the Great War's massive nature, plenty of folks must be maimed and the possibilities of artificial organs and body parts might be very tempting to the people thereof. If they figure out how to use surgery or their machines to transfer organs then we might get something like AD Polices's organ banks that give you an artificial organ replacement for 'real' replacements. I'm tempted to have this service not done by Cannith too but the Reidrans, for what purpose...anyones guess (actually, it'd be delightful if there IS nothing sinister about it but the Reidrans think its a wonderful way to invoke good will and make money across the land) Already ideas are coming for Construct based, formerly human characters with almost no humanity left to them....interesting. |
| Bluebrush03-24-05, 04:37 PM | If you read "Death at whitehearth" then you can see that construct/humanoid attempts have been made. Also, the Psionic Siberys shard embeddings resemble cybernetics in some ways. |
| Shas'O03-24-05, 04:55 PM | We already got 'em. Psionics have the embedded Syberis crystals, and Dealkyr, last I heard, had fancy schmancy symbiotes or somethin'. |
| nick01200003-24-05, 05:29 PM | I believe there was a magical prosthetic arm in Defenders of the Faith. |
| Charles Phipps03-24-05, 06:11 PM | I believe there was a magical prosthetic arm in Defenders of the Faith. Good point, I'm going to move this conversation over to the Giant Robtos, aliens, and other wackiness thread if no one minds. |
| Edymnion03-24-05, 07:20 PM | Yes, there's the Arm of Nyr. I've got a character that will suffer an "accident" thats going to blow their arm off. There is no high level healing available in Eberron. So, we'll be able to heal the HP damage, but nothing is gonna bring that arm back. So, the character is an artificer, gonna make their own replacement arm. And we've already got that Quori crystal shard that functions as a third eye that can be modified ruleswise into a replacement eye. |
| Bluebrush03-24-05, 08:44 PM | Hmm... an interesting idea occoured to me. Someone who has lost both their eyes and had them replaced with shards. Maybe not nescessarily in his eye sockets. Sharn sourcbok spoiler:Especially if he worked for the Sharn enclave of House Denieth. An eye that never closes. An emblem of vigilance. |
| Gurv03-24-05, 09:59 PM | I was looking at the grafts in the Fiend Folio today. The beholder and illithid grafts work perfectly for Cults of the Dragon Below. The undead grafts might be found in the Order of the Emerald Claw and Blood of Vol. The maug grafts could be adapted into warforged grafts- something designed as warforged components but maybe now being tested for human use. The fiendish grafts are cool too, but I'm going to just use them as generic grafts, not something neccesarily connected to fiends. FF also has some nice symbionts to round out the ones in the ECS. |
| Kennian03-25-05, 05:14 AM | There was a issue of Dragon that covered elves last year some time that had elven grafts....they were actuly pritty cool mythril and could be magicly enchanted, and you dont lose the gauntlet and ring slots for magical items upped you're unarmed damage with that hand by one die |
| Roxlimn03-25-05, 10:57 AM | There are 2 ways to introduce this. 1) Half Golem template. The character starts off half-construct to begin with, or gains the template. 2) Starmetal Adept for Artificers: The injured Artificer crafts better and better parts for himself as he goes along, eventually becoming a construct himself. |
| Purple Yin03-27-05, 05:34 PM | as rox said, definately there would be people with golem limbs. |
| Gnome_Dragon_Disciple03-28-05, 12:38 AM | I picked up a third-party supplement a couple weeks ago that I'm integrating into my Eberron campaign... it's called Steam and Steel, and it can be found on RPGNow.com. The vast majority of it is not actually traditional steamworks, but steamworks with a magical source. A character could make a prosthetic arm with an arcanomek engine that would never require refilling... it can go on longer than the person it's grafted to. You could even make a blood-powered necromek engine that would run off of the blood of the person it's grafted to! The supplement goes on to detail a large number of steamwork items, prestige classes, and monsters, as well as the rules for what to do when steamworks aren't properly maintained, and still further what happens when that improper maintenance leads to total failure of the device. And yes, there is a full prestige class devoted to attaining so many prostheses that the character becomes construct-like. Construct-LIKE. I believe the furthest it goes is 100% fortification and no longer hungers for food. Essentially, prostheses in the supplement aren't meant to be as good as normal limbs... just substitutes. |
