| ChronosCrow07-16-05, 03:30 AM | So I was going to take a change of pace for a side game with my PC's. Unbeknowest to them, the world may end up being Eberron 4056 YK, though they won't need this. I think the Dreaming Dark shall be the customary organiaztion I'll use to bring about this change. The criteria I think I need, storywise: 1. At one point, maybe 2223 YK, the DD will effectivly destory most information about history to the greater population of the world. 2. Xen'drik to either coast south, be completely destroyed, or lost someway. I think a lose of all of Giant civy would help in some way. 3. The Dreaming Dark will succeed something like 50 yrs before the setting begins. The Dragons, being them, swoop in empowered by the Prophecy and destory society as it is known b/c there is no way to purge the DD without a reset of the lesser races. They decimate things and just leave, same as w/ Xen'drik. Maybe also including some cataclysm like the same thing that happened with Xen'drik's giant civilzation. 4. Different map. The land will need to have changed so as to not let onto the PC's that it's Khorvaire they are on. Continents don't move that much in 4000 years so I need something to circumvent this. Things I don't know what to do with: 1. Organizations: Druid cults, The 12 Houses, Lord of Blades, The Trust, Emerald Claw 2. Prophecy items: dragonshards, dragonmarks 3. Races: the eberron specific ones, kalashtar, shifter, warforged and changeling. They are unbalanced for D20 future, but are a big part of Eberron, but also if included a big tip off to the world being Eberron. I'd imagine in a D.D. society the kalashtar would either be destroyed or just extremly too small and rare to even be a PC race, numbered in the hundreds. 4. Technology v.s. magic. D20 modern and Future are built so that all magic related areas are extremly weaker than the fantasy types of the past, not exactly my cup of tea, but I am NOT going to rewrite those classes for something like that. 5. Religon: Religon can be a powerful tool to help people out and my PC's aren't very religon D&D related so they don't really know the ebby stuff on personal choice. I think for the most part I can change things, rename them. But, I'm sure there are better ideas than stuff like that. |
| Crimsonsun07-16-05, 04:43 AM | 1. Organizations: Druid cults, The 12 Houses, Lord of Blades, The Trust, Emerald Claw I'd imagine if the Dark did win, they'd have wiped out the druids, especially the gatekeepers. After the Kalashtar, they would probably be considered the next thread (aberrations/outsider enemies)... Houses - Hostile Takeovers! Have all the houses have been "bought out" by one house, say via intermarriage and political trickery... make it be some house that was founded last, the orc/human one... the marks start to dilute and eventually all become abberant marks... its just a natural thing now, some people can perform a spellike ability, some cant... Trust - Complete paranoia for the gnomes. They dont let ANY non-gnome in Zil, and are even iffy of gnomes from elsewhere.... LoB - Gone. Died, take your pick. See my later ideas on forged.... EC - Still around, except now all as vampires or other undead under Vol. 2. Prophecy items: dragonshards, dragonmarks This requires answering - what happened to the dragons? Did the Dark take them out too? Are the dragons now hiding, waiting to restore their numbers and strike back? If so, no one will remember or CARE of the prophecy other than the odd historian or crazy man. For marks, just look up 3. No more kalashtar, the dark either killed them all, or found out how to directly attack the spirits. Gone. 'Forged would have been stopped created over 3000 years ago. Any that are left (if they DO live that long, something else to ask) are probably in hiding as hermits, or left inert. Could be used as a shocker/campaign element to find an inert 'forged from the Last War... Shifters have been either bred out (now just scruffy humans, the rare one can still shift (take a feat)) or have gone back to their wild ways and are xenophobic Changelings hid. They blend into humanity. Childred are hid until they can alter self, and then they are taught to maintain their form. 4. Technology v.s. magic. D20 modern and Future are built so that all magic related areas are extremly weaker than the fantasy types of the past, not exactly my cup of tea, but I am NOT going to rewrite those classes for something like that. Just use magic. Id say higher level spells are hard (as the knowledge has been lost) but shamanistic/druidic magic is bigger. Clerical magic depends on how you determine religion... 5. Religon: Religon can be a powerful tool to help people out and my PC's aren't very religon D&D related so they don't really know the ebby stuff on personal choice. I think for the most part I can change things, rename them. But, I'm sure there are better ideas than stuff like that. Destroy the physical Flame with Flamekeep. (lower down on the target list of the DD). Most of the other gods would get renames... can be basically kept the same flavor wise... or even, have the DD perform some MASSIVE psi/magic spell (eldritch machine anyone?) that has all people start to believe in the basic D&D pantheon... |

| ChronosCrow07-16-05, 05:18 PM | More of my thoughts on the setup: In the year 998, most of the D.D.'s agents in gov't are in place. In about 999 YK, the D.D. will successfully thwart an effort by the "The Swords of Liberty" to assinate the King of Breland along with his remaing family. The Riedar amassadors present undenying evidence to the crown about this plot and all of the people involved. The Riedar amabassador becomes much more important figure in the king's eyes at which point Riedar-Breland relations increase very much. In 1000 YK, the Riedar ambassador will presents plans for the Riedar monoliths. They will have increased apititude for Breland usage and make the world a "better place", so to speak. The King (whom I feel bad for b/c I just think he's great) is dupped by the D.D. and the first monolith(s) are built on Khorvaire. Maybe next to Sharn (b/c that's where my PC's usually are). Long story short, these monoliths prove so useful and fortuitous they are eventually setup all across the country. Whatever the next war is happens at this time during the setup of Breland for the D.D. The prince, meracuously ends up being a very capable man under the tutelage of Riedar scholars, he becomes a vessel for a quori spirit. The King will eventually die and the prince will ascend. His son will be public be his real son, but in reality he'll be an inspiried vessel that will be ready to be possed by the same quori in the prince and thus the line of Breland is compromissed. In the coming years after the next war Riedar increases influence across the continent for the next 200 years and then begin the build the monoliths across Khorvaire. This may even spread over to Xen'Drik. When business and conglomorates and such things that are in the 20th century in RL become a reality in Eberron the D.D. setups their own super organization that controls most media (in our life, that's not far fethced b/c in the U.S. all media boils down to being owned by 1 of 3 super media groups). In the year 4000 the new company kicks off the new millenia with a celebration. The true use of the monoliths are activated. The stunning finale here is that the monoliths forcibly pull the Dal Quor conterminous with the Material Plane of Eberron. This causes chaos on a massive level as quori armies rip through the world in Khorvaire, Sarlona and Xen'Drik. The dragons once again step in, but this time they realize they are too late. They must destroy all forms of organization and power to allow the world to restructure itself. A great fire rains down from the sky itself above and wipes the contienents clean. The population of the world is cut into 1/8th it's life still alive and all of the monoliths are destroyed or dismantled to be inactive. The people that are left learn to fear and hate the dragons blaming them for the downfall of life on the planet. Most anyone that was an old adult, like old elves, dwarves half-elves ect... die in the conflict. The campaign will begin 50-75 years after that. |
