| Razorhide10-03-05, 01:11 PM | Just get it over with, please. Please just come out and have the Riedra Monoliths be a means to have the material and physical planes one and the same and let the hosts of Quori brazenly invade the bodys of all those silly, hapless shantyville inhabitants around the egg-shaped structures. Then unleash war on Khorvaire from Sarlona. Then take all those cool evil ideas coming from Quori and publish a big book called something like: Dal Quor, or something like that. My (dream) campaign is currently in an all out war with the invading Mournland Lord of Blades, but the final blow that will reunite the Five Nations of Khorvaire is going to be the Sarlona(Quori)/Khorvaire War. I'd like a meaty book of evilness so I don't have to do all the work. :) Please. Thanks! |
| jonthegm10-03-05, 01:15 PM | What are you talking about? The monoliths are OBVIOUSLY psionic "pacifiers" that keep the continent of Riedra agreeable and content. The Quori only want to give people a better quality of life. Obviously. |
| Ricohard_Draconis10-03-05, 01:26 PM | your both wrong. :P The monaliths are actually there to form an advanced defense grid over Reidra which will defend it from all physical and magical attack. This is in preparation for the day when they break the seals, releasing both Xoriat and The Rajahs to destroy Khorvaire until they battle each other to death at which time they will emerge enmasse and rise to dominance over the entire continent with out any opponents. Or maybe their designed to manipulate the draconic prophecy so that when they're complete they can rewrite sections of the prophecy and edit people, things and events out of time. |
| Gaile d'Lyrandar10-03-05, 01:27 PM | I think the monoliths are psionic amplifiers that the inspired need to keep control of Riedra |
| MarkB10-03-05, 01:28 PM | Either that or they're just overcompensating. ;) |
| Hellcow10-03-05, 01:42 PM | but the final blow that will reunite the Five Nations of Khorvaire is going to be the Sarlona(Quori)/Khorvaire War. As a side note, while you should of course do as you wish in your campaign, this is preceisely what makes it unlikely that the quori world invade Khorvaire. There's every indication that the Dreaming Dark helped to encourage the Last War to begin with (note paranoid King Jarot's disturbing dreams), and the war has weakened Khorvaire and allowed the Riedrans to gain more influence in its courts. In Sarlona itself they encouraged the warring states and then appeared as charismatic leaders within those states, uniting to bring peace to the war-torn land. Given time, I would expect them to try to follow the same path in Khorvaire; they want to be welcomed by the people, not seen as the invading force that brings Khorvaire back together. Now, with all that said, if you're determined to have a Khorvaire-Sarlona war, I think the key is to establish some sort fo event that forces the quori to act in an uncharacteristically swift and unsubtle manner. Perhaps they discover that they only have one year to gain control of Khorvaire or Dal Quor will shift again. There would need to be something significant - because an outright war will actually push things back, reuniting a nation that they have likely worked hard to shatter. |
| jonthegm10-03-05, 01:55 PM | Or maybe their designed to manipulate the draconic prophecy so that when they're complete they can rewrite sections of the prophecy and edit people, things and events out of time. Or maybe they're made of chocolate, and the Quori built them to slake the enourmous sweet tooth of the gods when they finally return to walk the surface of Eberron once again... |
| DoveArrow10-03-05, 02:28 PM | Geez, none of you have it right. I mean come on, it's right there in front of your noses! The monoliths are obviously psionic towers used by the Inspired to contact the quori that have decided to remain on the plane of Dal Quor. It's also plain to see that the monoliths are being used to track the dreams of all living creatures on the Material Plane. |
| lukelightning10-03-05, 02:36 PM | Whatever the true purpose of the monoliths is, I bet they will eventually allow quori to physically manifest themselves on Eberron... |

It's also plain to see that the monoliths are being used to track the dreams of all living creatures on the Material Plane. According to the ECS or Races of Eberron (forget which one) all creatures except the Kalashtar project themselves to Dal Quor when they dream so they dont need a dream tracker on the material plane because the quori can just do it from Dal Quor. It also says that when the Inspired sleep the quori controlling them are projected to Dal Quor so that they can communicate the other quori. |
| Kinger10-03-05, 02:59 PM | Inspired #1: "Hey, now that we've subjugated all these people and a golden age of economic prosperity is upon us, what should we do with all the nice fat stacks of cash that are suddenly filling our treasuries?" Inspired #2: "Dude! We should build, like, gigantic monuments that celebrate our total awsomeness!" Inspired #1: "Bad ass! But shouldn't we really have some deep, subtle, hidden agenda behind building them? Y'know, keep the populace passive, or disrupt magic, or open a physical portal to Dal Quor?" Inspired #2: "Man, just because we're the freaking Dreaming Dark doesn't mean there has to be a conspiracy behind everything. Can't we just, y'know, build stuff 'cause it's cool, and we've tons of money to burn?" Inspired #1: "You're right! Monoliths for all!" |
| Aneul10-03-05, 04:18 PM | Kinger, I might have to sig that. However, as creative as you lot all are, the fact remains that no-one here has yet touched upon the true nature of the quori monoliths. Allow me to elaborate- First, I would draw your attention to the fact that Sarlona has reached its peak of economic productivity and politicle stability. While the U.S. of the 60s on may not have been all that stable, although by the standereds of the time it was stilla rguably among the most stable countries in the world, the nation was also an economic powerhouse. Now, the U.S.'s rapid rise to econimic greatness was heralded by a number of monumental changes in the standered of living of the people of said nation, the most import being the rise of the Fast Food Chain. Observe, if you will, the similarity between Sarlonan and the recent U.S.'s national development- upon having achieved a high level of prosperity, the entroprinuerial geniuses of the land wasted no time in starting Fast Food frenchies. Sarlona, having achieved a comprably high level of prosperity has begun constructing monoliths at regular points across the continent. The logical conclusion is that the Monoliths are infact fast food outlets. Given a few years time, the monoliths will begin marketing cheap, tasty, near-toxic food with never before seen efficiancy. The Quori Food Service will subsequently spread to Khorviare, were it will swiftly rise to challenge even the Dragon Marked Houses as the richest independant buissness of the current age, and at the same time adicting the people of the Five Nations to a product which the Inspired Lords completely regulate the availibility of. Its all part of the Quori world-domination scheme....can your bold PCs uncover this dasterdly plot before it is too late? |
| Kinger10-03-05, 05:07 PM | *Wild conspiracy theories...* Its like what McDonalds would be if it was evil... Ok, eviler. I stand by my "Because they think they look freaking cool" theory as to why the Quori are building them. |
| Tek10-03-05, 05:09 PM | In Riedra, Monolith builds you! |
| Hellcow10-03-05, 05:21 PM | Or maybe they're made of chocolate... I'm afraid this is the answer. Riedra is, after all, the Land of Chocolate. |
| a_psh10-03-05, 05:43 PM | In Riedra, Monolith builds you! Oh, no!! This is the start of a terrible board trend. I swear, this'll cut the level of actually useful discourse on the forums in half. In half a month's time, we'll be as vapid as Slashdot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slashdot). I, for one, welcome our new monolith-building, mind-bending, world-smashing overlords. |

And finaly a stat block for the dreaded "Orange dwarf"! |

Haven't you been paying attention? :P you need to finish reading my other post. "It also says that when the Inspired sleep the quori controlling them are projected to Dal Quor so that they can communicate the other quori." So the quori on the material plane can find out whats going on when they are projected to Dal Quor along with everyone else ,so they can see everything as it happens. |
| Aneul10-03-05, 07:04 PM | * How do you make a Spoiler column in your sig so as not to take up huge amounts of space with funny quotes?* Hellcow, now that you've admited to Riedra being the Land of Chocolate, I second the requests for a scourcebook and dragonshard dealing with the issue. In perticular, I'm curious about the magic and psionics involved in preventing the Chocolate Monoliths of the Inspired from melting durring the Reidran summers, or eroding in the durring their monsoons, flooding the surrounding farmlands with chocolate-flavored water. |
| Kinger10-03-05, 08:53 PM | TOTALY. FREAKING. SIGED! I feel lofty and dirty at the same time. And I like it. I demand to be properly quoted, though, with a link to the original material. My name must be in there, giving my comedic genius proper credit where credit is due. I want all who read that brilliant passage and laugh uproariously aloud to know how truly amusing I really am. Failure to do so will force me to bring this before the highest court in the country on charges of plagiarism, and I'll make sure you never get to quote amusing passages in your signature ever again!! That'll show all those bastards who don't laugh at my jokes. That'll show 'em all! And yes, I'm kidding. I think I'm just reminded of every damn essay I've ever written, where every i must be dotted and every t crossed twice, and woe to the student who's bibliography isn't up to snuff. :p Now that I know that Riedra is the Land of Chocolate, I'm beginning to wonder if there's miniature Mars bars or the like inside the monoliths, and you have to break the monolith/egg open (or simply split it into its two individually molded halves) to get at them. *Gasp!* Maybe there's a "some-assembly-required" toy made from poorly molded plastic in each! Quori Surprise chocolates! Kids love 'em! |
| Raster10-03-05, 09:13 PM | I'm afraid this is the answer. Riedra is, after all, the Land of Chocolate. Chocolate, scones, the whole campaign setting's edible :D |
| Phaseroth10-03-05, 11:47 PM | Two snacking dragons collide in midair, falling to the ground and mixing up their snacks. Dragon #1: Hey! You got Quori in my Riedran! Dragon #2: No, you got Riedran on my Quori! MMMMMmmmmm! The Inspired: Two great tastes that go great together. I hope I'm not the only one here old enough to get that. |

| Archangel6210-04-05, 01:26 AM | I think it has something to do with physical manifestation, or somehow stabilizing the psionic energies to keep the shift from occurring, thus making them compleltely immortal. |
| Nurgan_the_drunked10-04-05, 04:56 AM | You've all fallen for the trap! They're there so that people spend so darned long working out convoluted conspiracy theories over the purpose of these massive monoliths, that they all get headaches, and take a nurofen like medicine that enables the quori to control them more easily. |
