| Daelkyr10-25-04, 05:42 PM | I have a first lvl Changeling rogue who's background contains a murdered father who was a retired Master Inquistive. The father was called out of retirement by a friend in the Sharn Watch to investigate a murder of a Sivis gnome. The Sharn Inquisitive had gotten wind of the murder and the unwanted publicity was forcing the Watch to bring in some help to put it to rest. The fathers friend had instructions to get a 'rube' inquisitve but instead the father was selected. He then turned up dead himself. I was wondering if you had any suggestions on how to flesh this background out. It sound like a combination mystery/intrigue but I've very little experiece in plotting this kind of adventure. Any advice pointers would be appreciated. On a side note, the Changling in question is planning on following in his fathers footsteps. Oh, and check out Order of the Stick. Google it, it's worth it. |

Maybe his father even left a trail of clues as his investigation progressed. As well as his father being murdered, your character has noticed that the family house is being watched - perhaps the murderers are after him as well? This friend, how true a friend was he? Did the father know something about him that needed silencing? Master Inquisitives might have the tendency to discover secrets.. Hope it helps ;) |

Excellent idea  You might kick this off with the PC coming across a dusty old journal that belong to the father, hidden away on a bookshelf in the family home. Perhaps the book has been enchanted with a magic mouth that activates when the journal is opened. "If you're reading this, I'm already dead." The journal could then lead the character to a clue that would in turn be the begining of a trail ending at the reason for the father's death. You could even do something like have the journal offer advice or additional clues as the PC makes progress. Good luck with this! Cheers! |
