| Amaril08-04-06, 07:03 PM | Is it just me, or does anyone else think a "yellow pages" for Sharn: City of Towers (with page numbers referencing the book) would be extremely helpful in quickly finding places that have what you (as a DM) are looking for on behalf of the players? |
| Bluebrush08-04-06, 07:08 PM | You mean an Index? (http://www.bossythecow.com/sharnindex.htm) |
| Amaril08-04-06, 07:47 PM | No, I have the index. A specific example I have is a PC who came to sharn and wanted to participate in some sort of gladitorial combat. There's no quick reference where I can look up a listing of arenas or sports venues and have a list of places with page numbers so that I know in which direction to point him. |
| iKitten08-04-06, 08:06 PM | All I can think of is one of those mall directories. Which prompted a mental image of a dwarven fighter standing at magic slab carved with a rough layout of the city that was glowing "You are here" while all the icons for nearby pubs and bars lit up. |

Which prompted a mental image of a dwarven fighter standing at magic slab carved with a rough layout of the city that was glowing "You are here" while all the icons for nearby pubs and bars lit up. That's exactly what I want, but not for in-game use, just as a DM's reference. |
| Amaril08-06-06, 11:21 AM | More specifically, I wouldn't necessarily want icons with location markers on a map, but the list at the bottom of the map with places listed under categorical headings with page references would be ideal. |
| Reclaimed08-07-06, 07:06 AM | I've been working on a directory, but it is being updated as I go. My plan was to reference everything in the book. Not there yet, but it is in excel and I have the next few days off. If I get it somewhere near complete I can post it and then if someone wants to update it as they want they can. |
| poisondusk08-07-06, 07:11 AM | I was doing some searching through CoT the other day and thought this would be a good thing to do. If the information in CoT was OGL, I'd suggest a wiki. |

I was considering doing this myself, but I'm glad someone else is working on it. I'm looking forward to the results. Thanks! |
| Amaril08-07-06, 12:58 PM | Perhaps we could set up a shared Google Spreadsheet to which others can contribute? I wonder if Hellcow already has anything like this that he might be willing to share. |
| Reclaimed08-09-06, 01:39 PM | I've been writing an index for this and was wondering if there are any specifics anyone would like included in it. I have been referencing all headings, tables, and extras. I thought about a section refering to the characters-or maybe characters just linked to where they are in the city(according to their purpose). Any insights on what people may like would help my organization of the excel sheet. I have the city broken down into levels already. Thanks |
| Amaril08-09-06, 01:58 PM | Off the top of my head, I was thinking a breakdown including but not limited to the following categories: -residential areas (homes and apartments) -magic shops and sagely services -hardware stores (tools, equipment, and other gear) -clothing stores (if applicable) -temples -government and legal services (watch garisons, courthouses, etc.) -sport venues -entertainment (taverns, inns, restaurants, gambling halls, bordellos, etc.) -travelling/transportation stations (airships, boats, lightning rail) -investigative resources -storage (vaults, warehouses, etc) -communications (message stations, bulleting boards, news sources, etc.) -education and training (anything from Morgrave to vocational/trade school to a monastary for monks/psions -libraries or other archives (could be lumped into government and legal services, except I'm not sure if Morgrave or its library is public or private) -parks Did I leave anything out? |
| Reclaimed08-09-06, 03:46 PM | I have all the upper ward districts in by type with page reference. I'm now working on subdividing all named and generic types of places in each district, and making it so it can be sorted to find specific named vs nonspecific named places within each district/level. I have most of the specific race neighborhood's completed in the upperward, but have to add all nonspecifically named (like temples) in. |
