So, I was taking a look through my computers' hard drives and I discovered a character that I was planning to try out for an online Eberron campaign, but never went through with... As such, the character still sits on the old HD and I find that he might be useful to others out there as an NPC. Rather than posting a thread devoted to this single NPC, I thought it would be useful to create an Eberron-Specific NPC thread for everyone to contribute to and benefit from...

DESCRIPTION

Young Garacaius works as either a clerk or a contractor for building operations. He is naturally gifted at the latter, but finds the former job more stable and reliable. He recently inherited a Magebred Hound and a small sum of gold from a dead uncle, which has brought him to whatever city that you choose to place him in. A quiet yet resourceful person, Garacaius is cautious in all of his actions: methodically planning for contingencies and making sure that he is prepared for most of them. At this stage, he has started to find himself wishing more for himself and whatever community he might be a part of... so, in order to attain a measure of control over his destiny and to contribute to a community, Garacaius has come to the conclusion that he will need resources -- knowledge, gold, power, and connections. In the short term, Garacaius intends on starting up a dog-breeding business and purchasing land if it is available to be purchased. He reasons that owning land will tie him to a place and set down roots, roots that his parents have urged him to grow before it is too late. In purchasing land, he will be given incentive to protect his interests -- which may be an avenue for him to help out PCs defending a town against invaders or some other threat to the community that he is trying to be a part of.

He is in no way an immoral man, but he thinks in terms of groups and motivations, rather than whether and to what degree his actions are ethically "pure." He sees value in the ends, rather than the means, which is why he has been relatively successful in business but not the best or most understanding of friends. Used to living a solitary life, he is often dumbstruck by the simplest of social dynamics. He is interested in forging connections and friendships, but perhaps isn't the best one to rely on for good friendship just yet...

How can Garacaius be used in a campaign? Probably in only a supportive role, providing information, goods and services to the more active players. He would be hesitant to go out onto the field of adventure and would resist going out onto a field of battle unless the situation demanded it.

This was originally a PC, so the level of detail involved is quite expansive compared with most NPCs of the around the same power-level. He's in no way a setting-wide "mover and shaker" but in a smaller community (Village to Small City), he could be a useful contact or even a good ally.

Hope this helps,
